To those negative comments about Thor, he is not the only monkey here his family is here with him they all get fed multiple times a day, they get their diapers changed every 2 hours and are played with constantly. They are being treated better than most children, so why don't you stop bitching about a cute monkey in a basket and start bitching about the mistreatment of our children and maybe do some good for your own kind.
Paul Turner I think people are being critical because capuchins are generally more happy in their natural environment than in an artificial one created by humans. If you are providing him with a big space, a group of other monkeys with which to socialize, and the right amount of food then I think it's admirable. Good for you! But they are wild animals, and shouldn't be kept as pets.
***** That's not quite how it works. When we talk about happiness among captive primates, we are mostly talking about observable signs of stress that aren't present in wild populations. For instance, most captive capuchin monkeys cleave to blankets or stuffed animals, holding them close to their body as they rock back and forth. This behavior is believed to be associated with early removal of the monkey from its mother. And these behaviors are not observed in wild populations. Furthermore, they are highly social animals, whose lives exist not only among their own group, but in their dispersal into other groups. Human companions can't replace the companionship of other capuchins. We assume these things because, as primatologists, we spend several months out of every year treading through jungles in South America to understand these animals.
It's a stupid monkey. It's not a child. It shouldn't be a pet. Sponsor a child from world vision. Not this stupid thing. Why would you put a diaper on it. Save it for a real child. Put this thing back in the wild. It's nothing special like a real baby. It's just an animal that needs to be left alone. I don't care to hear, it's mom died, okay well lots of monkeys die every day. It will be okay. If it stays with it's kind.
CaneFu Yep! All those perverse sickos who abuse these precious animals by humanizing them are mentally ill and should be locked up in the psych ward. Period.
And to add to that..The baby should only be taken if the mother ignores it or it is orphaned. I have seen a breeding facility. The mothers are often darted or netted and the baby is pulled from the mothers tummy. These infants are nursing 24-7, not left alone in a basket while their meal is prepared. The females and babies are screaming while the infant is being taken. It is a big industry that makes for a lifetime of suffering.
The baby capuchin chirps and whistles away calling for a mother that is never going to hold or nurse him again. However his foster home seems to be a comfort and not a dangerous captivity of despair!
Thor is now 5yrs old and is still here with this family and friends. When this video was shot Thor was calling to his mother, she was right next to him off camera and had just gotten finished nursing him.
I LOVE how people seem to be so careless when it comes to the fact that they EAT animals, but when it comes to oh no monkeys, or any other "wild" animal they get all defended and freak out about people owning them, REALLY? ever heard of free choice, if it's not hurting your life then don't worry about it. obviously you have no problem worrying about that steak on your plate, that has had a WAY more cruel life than any little spoiled monkey.
because monkeys are actually infact, smarter than cows, pigs etc. that says alot considering the fact monkeys have an iq higher than every vegan combined.
@Johnny Parker jesus fuck do you need help? what i responded to: take a pair of pliers and yank it’s tongue out watch it bleed out and stop that annoying chirping sound
That disgusting ugly thing a beautiful creation? Really now, if it was beautiful it would not be the most abused animal on earth and the rich peoples choice for beating and abusing for sheer entertainment. I tend to wish i was rich
just an observation but isn't beauty in the eyes of the beholder as they say.....does everyone think you are an attractive human....you may not be to someone else....you may want to put that in your pipe and smoke on it a little bit.
MegaBieber8 Why not just bring the little rat to the brink of starvation, over and over again. After a few years of that, pop it in the microwave.....high power, for about fifteen minutes.
Just an FYI. If they're twittering like that, (then I see an escalation in an open mouthed hoot, and the ultimate escalation is if they open their mouth so you can teeth and really screech,) well, sorry to say, but Thor is feeling major distress. I don't mind you having a monkey. Just please, they are smart and have their own communication. Please learn it and respect accordingly. Would you let a human baby get traumatized and just cry? This is a baby too. Act accordingly, please.
ZyanaTzin you are a moron who knows absolutely zero about capuchin behavior!! Its pretty funny how you are an expert at reading his behavior but yet was unable to see that his capuchin mother had just finished nursing him and that he was actually whistling to her who is to the side just out of view of the camera!! I have no idea how you were not able to discern that fact!! BTW....capuchins do not "hoot" you imbecile
And what if they don't eat steak and hunt and fish for their food, which is killed humanely? What if a monkey is too intelligent and stubborn as an adult to be kept as a pet? There's a pretty fucking good reason why monkeys don't make good pets. So many people buy monkeys for the cuteness factor as infants, and these monkeys are disposed of in various ways- the ones ending up in sanctuaries are the lucky ones. It's the same as tossing kids away, considering that's what a monkey essentially is.
Molley obviously you have misunderstood what kwanshimpo has said numerious times so i will put it very simply for you, the monkey she has now, was already more then likely traumatized prior to them getting it, so of course the monkey will veer away from anyone after being traumatized... (example: a person owns a pet, is abusive to it physically/mentally for a period of time, the pet will have a trust issues with any person there after)...
Wow, so dark. You may discard your pets, but thor is alive and well living at one of our other facilities with other capuchin monkeys. But thanks for your concern.
also how is it fair and humane to take that monkey from its mother? and its quite likely that the mother was killed just so you can have a novelty pet for a few years until or its no longer cute and has become unmanageable, then what? i think you need to look at the bigger picture here and do whats right for the animal not whats right for you. and for me to take the monkeys side should mean something as i utterly despise monkeys to no end. i mean i REALLY, REALLY hate them alot.
I eat steak. I don't take a calf from its mother, confine it to a basket and delude my self the pretty little baby cow likes it. Why don't you people think about what this COSTS the monkey. Trade your freedom for $6000? Don;t give me any nonsense about born in captivity so doesn't know the difference. If you were YOU WOULD KNOW.
paul, is Thor a special needs monkey? if he is, how did you aquire him? I am looking for a special needs baby cap or any little monkey baby that need that extra love, care and help. i work with with special need people and would like to take my exp. and try to make the babys life as loving and happy as I can. so if you or anyone point in the right direction, mabey we can make i differance in a babys life. thanx
There are no pics of thor what did you do kill him or give him away sanctuary should have pics some one or something did something bad to this monkey what a sin fuckinn you all

_Thor (The capuchin) is with his family according to the owner._

@@pgturn1 If this were true he would be on his mother. Not in a basket crying for her.

Good-God people, just enjoy the video and how precious it is.

He is really cute😘 Thor is a superhero from the Avengers and the Avengers Age of Ultron.
long before the movie avengers was made thor was a legendary greek god of which the "thor" you refer to is based upon.
