I created my own 20-band vocoder from scratch in FL-Studio FLowstone schematics. Also some time ago I built another one using only mixer routing, envelope followers (peak control) and equalizers. Works very well :)
Je me suis balader pas mal d'années sur RUclips à la recherche des tutoriels sur de la musique électronique mais là c'est une autre dimention 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Bravo Oscar 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I felt shy like you about singing on my tracks. I happened to be working on a new track and after watching your video, it inspired me to record a short clip on my phone recorder, bring it into Bitwig's vocoder with a brass synth carrier. Adjust the filter, add some reverb. Instant vibe change. I love it.
Cheez Oscar you re singing like an angel, at least at the beginning of the vid, later on - not so much, lol. But seriously for several minutes playing around with a vocoder plugin you've managed to create really nice beat. Sometimes it takes weeks for me to get something like that, and it doesn't sound that good at the end.
Great video! Right now the best bang-for-buck analog vocoder in production is the VC340. I'm lucky enough to have an EMS 2000 but they only made 150 or so of them.... The Synton and Voice Seekers units are very nice but rare, for robotic/chunky sounds SVC350. VF11 has weak VCA's but that's the sound of "INTERGALACTIC"... If you have $5K you can get the MOOG or GRP
Great, great video! I never understood what vocoders were or how to use them. Thanks for this! PS - Nice work adding section titles in big bold letters (5:01) because it makes it really easy to jump back to listen to specific parts again. PPS - Can you explain what "formant" is? I've heard that in the context of a filter, but still don't fully understand what it means.
Great ideas with the perc & noise, didn't think about the vocoders that way! Was wondering if you could do Daso - Meine main lead sound design tutorial? Its really unique but hard to recreate
I think that's because the second half of the 20th century was a time of optimism for the future, where all kinds of (more or less sensible) utopian ideas seemed possible. So futurism is a vibe that is now retro, because it peaked a generation ago. There's a subreddit about it, /r/retrofuturism
Reason itself can be run as a VST now days (Reason Rack Plugin), so using BV-X in Live is just like using a VST. Here's a setup tutorial. ruclips.net/video/Hdjdi3OB9E8/видео.html
The hardware synths are cool, but you can achieve so many things in software format these days that they are nice-to-have, not essential. Plus, not everyone can afford this stuff and I don't like making content that's exclusive, I wanna be inclusive :)
Another very nice tutorial! Thank you! I'm just not all that impressed with the Reason vocoder itself. For example, Bitwig Studio's stock vocoder does all that and much, much more.
Hey! Honest question - when did you get into these types of products and being so obsessed about sound, gear and waves? I am just catching myself thinking about rhythms, synthesizers, music, frequencies probably 70% of the day. I am loving it, but I also see that it separates me from other people + connecting me to other people who share that interest. Sorry if this is too in depth!
Really great and versatile, much more space to play around than Ableton Live's vocoder. Can't say I've tried many other vocoders than that to be honest!
Shy, oh, you really have chosen an interesting way of dealing with this handicap ... ROFL :))) ... teaching and coaching people personally, by video stream or by talking to 157k + x people all over the world through your amazing tutorial clips...
Nice device but unfortunately as usual at Reason Studio they are greedy and it costs 109 euros, and neither launch price! A shame!!! Ovox by Waves (a very flexible and powerful vocoder) costs 29! I mean, ''dear'' Reason Studio, be more user-friendly and don't think just about money!!! 69 full with 49 euros as launch price would be HONEST. NOT TWICE. Their entire DAW (full of amazing devices) costs 399, how can A SINGLE plugin cost more than 1/4??? Com'on!!!
Hiya! Have you considered the 20 bucks subscription, with the discount code in the description? It's a low barrier to entry to see if it's interesting for you, no need to go for the high price option I think?
@@OscarUnderdog sorry for the late reply my dear friend I love your video, especially because my main genre is Techno and you r Techno-oriented :) Anyway, I own Reason since 2.5 and I always paid for upgrades, so for me is a non-sense to subscribe, I already own 98% of the DAW... And my point was just that: At Reason Studio they totally forgot about loyal old customer, so I can understand this marketing tactic to push people on subs BUT for an already old customer is, I repeat, A TOTAL NON SENSE. Why should I pay every month for something I already own at 98%? For us would be HONEST to make a custom pricing for old users. All this is just because their extra devices are always expensive. If they were well priced I wouldn't be here complaining... So I stay happy with my Ovox (29!) euros and iZotope's Vocalsynth (49 euros) ...Those are honest prices...
I don't usually respond to negative comments, but theres really no place for this kind of disrespect on my channel. Go think a bit about why you have this negative reaction to femininity, it's unnecessary and cruel.
These guys are friends, you know that, right? Bro, you really probably should have just kept that to yourself. It didn't come off as a joke. Imagine if someone had said that about your friend.

this guy is the best. The amount of structure and joy he puts in his video never fail to amaze me.
🥰 thanks Elias
Agreed, what a wonderful man
holy moly the lowend of the track running at the beginning of Reason 1 is so sick!
Woah, that example at the start with the white noise sent chills down my spine. It made Oscar sound like some kind of demon robot haha.
I love moments like 9:17 when you're feeling stuck in a track and then suddenly something catches your attention and sounds good again
Yeah, it's like searching searching and BOOM, there it goes! :D
I love your channel, probably the most straight forward explanation I've ever heard
Brilliant! I love Vocooders. They are so simple to use and understand, but the possibilities are unbelievable.

This was totally awesome. Totally felt it @ 9.25. when you dropped an octave. Headphones on. That's why I love this channel. Legend mate!
😁✌
Im shocked your not knocking on 500 k subs Oscar, I always enjoy your tutorials and thats comming from a FL user. im sure you will get there!
Cheers 🤭

Great video! Thank you 🔥
Nice video Oscar... Love you my man!!
A very instructive introduction - thanks!
Great video great music song. Great audio good show
Man, Oscar, your videos keep getting better. Love you, bro.
Amazing - gotta try it
Have not pressed play yet, you had me at "+ me singing" XD
you do it again oscar!!! thxs masteeeeeeer! ♥
Vocoders with Vocal chops work really well
Another excellent tutorial, Oscar. Thank you! Damn, I've got loads of work to do, and all I want to do is play about with this vocoder!!! :)
😁 it's very cool, I feel like I've only scratched the surface too!

Nice:) very symphatic!
We should do a workshop for voice. To take away the shyness and make it fun for everyone. I'm struggling with using my voice in my hip hop/trap music.
Yeah! It's a shame really, need to overcome the self-consciousness :) :)

Super inspired of this. Camt wait to get back on my tracks :)
More Oscar vocals please! 🙌🙌🙌
💯
I can't believe the quality level of content you create every single time
le combo Ableton + Reason est tellement puissant !! Merci Oscar :)
You are a genius Oscar, so educational and so funny at the same time :DDD
😁💚
It’s kind of strange the way that vocoders are invariably described as being either futuristic or retro..! 😝
I think that's because the second half of the 20th century was a time of optimism for the future, where all kinds of (more or less sensible) utopian ideas seemed possible. So futurism is a vibe that is now retro, because it peaked a generation ago. There's a subreddit about it, /r/retrofuturism
I think the first really dancy vocoded beat i heard was Kraftwerk-Expo 2000, dont forgett that song. Amazing
Great video, thanks - and great grained look the video got - you just need film bars in top an bottom :-)
some people use vocoders as effect for wide dubsteppy basses. Could you show can it be done with reason version?
This is a pretty good example of using a vocoder on a dubstep bass ruclips.net/video/Jiv0eXfHBJU/видео.html
The master ❤️❤️🖤🖤🙏🙏
I could listen to that loop on 9:35 forever!
Very cool vocoder
Thanks
Top makker 😀👌👌
I love vocoders!
That vocoder sounds amazing. I wonder what the best VST is for vocoding, I'm assuming the only way to use this is through Reason...
Reason itself can be run as a VST now days (Reason Rack Plugin), so using BV-X in Live is just like using a VST. Here's a setup tutorial. ruclips.net/video/Hdjdi3OB9E8/видео.html

How is this different from Convolution?
Hey, thanks! Why don't you you use built in vocoder?
WA DE HELL i just watched all day about vocoders, morphing (zynaptiq morph)
and now you :DD:D HOW you do dis lol
😏 it's the truman show, everything is scripted.
Vocoders are sort of cross modulators in the frequency domain, right? A quite interesting toy.
So much helpful video , you're absolutely talented person Oscar !
Thanks as always! You’re an awesome teacher 🤘🏼
i have a DP/4+ trying to get the gain staging right on this is a PiTA, i wonder how Daft Punk did it? LoL
I love vocoders, So far, I have a MAM VF-11, Korg DVP-1, Novation Mininova, and a Roland svc-350. I will eventually own a Moog.
I’ve always wondered, in studios like this do you just not hear good audio when using the synths and whatnot pictured on the right?
I think that most people just route the syntherzisers into their main audio interface and have them play back in their monitors.
The hardware synths are cool, but you can achieve so many things in software format these days that they are nice-to-have, not essential. Plus, not everyone can afford this stuff and I don't like making content that's exclusive, I wanna be inclusive :)

What's your impression about this plugin soundwise?
Really great and versatile, much more space to play around than Ableton Live's vocoder. Can't say I've tried many other vocoders than that to be honest!
Never thought of using a vocoder with percussion... 💡
Reason has a new vocoder? Is it included in reason? It already has a vocoder , what is different with this one?
🤩
its remind me to the track WK7 - Do It Yourself
Nice.
👌🤌

hahaah what an intro
Loving the track you've produced here, is it on SoundCloud at all?
I'm afraid not! But will probably finish it on my Torc project 😊✌
