    We used to take our 3 little kids here frequently on Sunday afternoons from Narre Warren and Berwick, when they were little in the early 2000s, for a couple of train rides, rides on the ponies and a play at the park. Used to love riding behind the steamers. - A fabulous long and complex railroad with many happy memories amongst the gum trees.

    This is my childhood. Even back 35 years ago, they had the signalling, level crossings and tunnels. Used to love it when my age was single digits, was always a highlight when we got to go and ride the little trains at Eltham.
    If there is a better Miniature Railway within Australia, I have never seen it.

    Snap!
    It seems to get bigger every year. I remember it in the early 1970s when it was a tenth the size. Soo many people, it's increadibly popular. Sometimes you have to line up for over an hour. I guess they can't run the steam locos anymore because of the crowds. Great footage as always.

    [ X ] ... Oh, now that has to be fun. And has to be the smallest gauge possible for "human consumption"! Anything smaller and it's a model railroad, I'd think! We have a similar tourist train here, but don't think it's near as narrow, and certainly not near as long. Thanks for sharing ... every railroad in Australia by the time you're done?!! I’m interested in what powers most of these loco’s no doubt four cylinder car type engines maybe like older Nissan or Toyota or something and what about the transmissions are they a hydrostatic or an auto trans like a jatco or trimatic with the upper ratios locked out or something? I live in the area and try to make out what goes on and see chain drive drive on some of them, I once tried to ask an operator about it but unfortunately he was most unfriendly and I got the feeling he couldn’t be bothered talking to me about it so I’m reticent to ask again and maybe you might be able to answer my question as I do like trains and am interested in the motive power side of things

    • @driver667
      @driver667  Год назад +1

      That's a shame you came across some one a bit unfriendly. Most are happy to talk about the trains. Most of the locomotives at Diamond Valley have small car engines that drive an aircraft generator that powers electric motors on the axles. There are also one or two that are hydraulic drive or battery powered. 👍😊
