  • Hello everyone,
Today we answer that age old question - whilst visiting a railway, can you control a train via a drone?
A massive thank you to the Bentley Miniature Railway for inviting me down to their gala.
If you want more information about the railway check out their website here: www.bentleyrailway.co.uk/
Or have a look at their Facebook here to see what's going on: / friendsofbentleyminiat...
If you like what you see and would like to take your own engine or get involved drop them an email here: enquiries@bentleyrailway.co.uk
The sound in this video is best listened to with headphones - we used a Binaural 3D microphone for most of the run pasts, which allows you to really hear where the trains are. Have a look at the range here - www.sr3d.co.uk/
A video shot, featuring and edited by Lawrie.

This is both the most bonkers and most fun thing I have seen so far with regard to miniature trains. The mere fact that these are perfectly functioning machines just like their big brothers is wild, while the control scheme becomes somewhat convoluted because humans aren't scaled down with it. Looks like a complete blast, especially with the remote control idea :)

Loved the RC fun and games. 7.25 looks so good without the giants sitting on the roof. I put a camera linked to a VR headset in my 7.25 Radio controlled Wickham trolley it was really weird when I saw myself standing at the side of the line.

Some times drones get a bad press for doing things…. This one shows you can have fun and can have a purpose and have a reason.. all with doing it safely. A massive thumbs up to the railway all round.

I seriously had personally just suddenly feel quite excited on officially wanting with no complete doubt whatsoever to mention that I saw on another awesomely excellent RUclips video several times already not too long ago featuring an official 7.25" minimum-gauge steam-driven railway garratt locomotive with more-or-less the official 4-8-2+2-8-4 wheel configuration!

That final bit was like one of those dreams when you realise you are driving your car, but you're sitting in the back seat and have no contol over what's going on. Sort of like your 'lemon challenges' but with even less co-ordination.
Just me then, I'll pick up my hat as I'm leaving.

We were just so close to visiting this event but having spent 6 days at the RUGBY CLUB during the summer had almost run out of petrol money!!! Instead I pulled down the inside of a wall in our kitchen. Insulate and rebuild with bricks. HOWEVER we spent a wonderful day at Harrow and Wembley on Sunday riding behind a BLACK FIVE. And eventually extracted ourselves from a 5" 15F. Both quite beasts. David and Lily.
