I choose to follow Christ as John Piper's teaches; following Christ through loving God's WORD (above all) with all of your MIND & BEHAVIOR-through Christ! For Christ, Himself has magnified His WORD above all His Names. (Psalm 138:2) He IS GOD

    When did this take place?

  • @philipbenjamin4720

The statement "Truth triumphs through providence" makes no sense.
Jesus is the Truth - therefore when someone says "Truth triumphs through providence" they are really saying "Jesus triumphs through providence".
But that divides providence from Jesus' unchanging character.
Christianity is Christ - his unchanging character - not 'providence'.
    (Calvinism is primary false doctrine).

Jesus triumphs through providence. It's a perfect statement, actually.
The salvation of all his elect throughout history and time is the working of the Lord's providential, triumphant power.

      @@therealkaramelHello,
What I attempted to say failed for lack of clarity. Here's a second attempt.
If I ask you to imagine God's justice - you can immediately define it and perceive it to be part of God's character - it is God's fairness - his rewarding righteousness and punishing wrongdoing.
The same with God's mercy - you can define it (I define it as God's justice outworked always with the intention to if possible restore).
But not so with providence. Providence is God providing - which means we get 'stuff' - that doesn't tell us anything about which part of God's character was responsible for the providing - nor what was provided. As proof of that no-one pays a person a compliment by saying they are a great provider.
Could we instead think of providence as generosity - so it became linked with God's character? No we couldn't because while it does become clear that it is something about God and what he gives it still leaves us with the issue of what part of God's character was given. (Salvation is God offering us HIMSELF - which means that we must understand providence in terms of which part of God has been given to us).
It's the same with grace. Calvinists call grace God's undeserved favour - or something similar - but that defines grace only in terms of what we got/get from God - it doesn't actually tell us anything about which part of God is his grace.
So that's what I meant in my first post when I said that "Jesus triumphs through providence" was either unclear or incoherent. I meant that it causes Jesus to be defined only in vague terms - as someone who delivered an outcome (which leads to people thinking of salvation being God giving us something other than himself - such as God allowing us to go to heaven when we die - this having serious implications for people's being changed by the gospel).
Calvinists have every reason not to want to get specific about God's grace - since their Calvinism leaves them rightly unable to imagine which part of God's character is responsible for saving the elect - while damning the non-elect. Calvinism requires what God gives in salvation to float in mid air - to exist separately from himself.
It isn't just Calvinists who aren't able to locate grace in God's character. Non-Calvinists - due to the influence of Calvinism - are no better.
My conclusion - I won't give a full defence here - is that God's grace is his perfect (utterly self-giving) intention. Unless God's grace is his intention we don't actually have any way to prove that God is utterly self-giving. Imagine a senior pastor who behaves justly and mercifully towards his congregation - because he wants them to allow him to stay in their holiday homes. Your response may be to say that this is a failure of holiness - but it isn't - holiness is God's insistence that his character be exhibited not just by him - but everywhere. But all we have - without a clear definition of grace - is only that God insists that his justice and mercy be everywhere. We still haven't found a part of God which relates to his intention - at least not unless grace is God's always self-giving intention.
Whatever definition we come up with for grace it has to explain why - when normally an attribute of God received by us leads to our exhibiting THAT ATTRIBUTE ONLY - Titus 2:11-14 says that God's grace teaches us to be godly in every character attribute. That passage proves that grace - like God's holiness - must be about God's relationship with his own character - instead of being a simple attribute like justice or mercy.
