The Roman Catholic Church removed the second commandment from the original ten commandments. The second commandment "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.” was replaced with "You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God in vain."
I wonder why they did that? Could it be that Catholics have been indoctrinated to believe that the use of statues, relics, and other articles is acceptable and even necessary for worship?

God’s Ten Commandments from Exodus 20…
      2. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.” (Exodus 20:4) “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;” (Exodus 20:5) “And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.” (Exodus 20:6)
      The Catholic Ten Commandments…
      2. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God in vain. (Exodus 20:7)
The Catholic Church’s Ten Commandments is a modified version of Exodus 20. It is not the same thing, but a very slim down version of the real deal. They took a lot of details out of the true commandments of God, along with removing a commandment all together. Replacing God's 2nd with God's 3rd commandment is very deceitful and has set up the members to sin against God for over a thousand years.

@@geo6740 The Exodus and Dueteronomy verses pertaining to the Ten Commandments are in the Catholic Bible. There are two commonly used versions of the Ten Commandments which have different numbering. The Church and the the Lutheran Confessions use one by Augustine and the Orthodox and Refomed communities use the one your community uses. There is a paragraph addressing this in The Catechism of the Catholic Church as well as an entire section discussing all of the Commandments.

    • @geo6740
      @geo6740 Год назад +1

      @@teresaemmerth5625
The substance of the 2nd addresses the distinct and highly significant question of the proper worship of the one true God. Tagging the 2nd to the end of the1st in the Catholic ten commandments is misleading and helps it ... disappear.
The RCC had good reason to downplay the 2nd since they violate it every time they pray to and worship Mary and the dead saints. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above" and “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God."
If you walk into any Catholic Church, you will finda variety of different idols that they bow down to on a daily basis. You will find an altar to Mary and her statue which people bow down to and light candles for.
Also, the RCC has different degrees of worship...dulia, hyper dulia, and latria. Dulia is the honor given to the saints. Hyper dulia is the honor given to Mary alone and Latria is the honor given to God alone. In contrast, the Bible always ascribes honor, in the context of worship, to God alone. Even if there were biblical support for different levels of worship, there still would be no biblical support for offering lower or lesser levels of worship to anyone other than God.

Mike and Jane, how thankful we are for your ministry. I am deeply grateful to you and John MacArthur for such clear teaching. I love how you let scripture interpret scripture. Gods word is alive and active…sharper than any two edged sword. The truth can be known, indeed it can, and scripture says so. We can trust it because it’s God-breathed.
I came out of the Roman Catholic religion when I went to university. I had gone to church throughout my childhood with my parents, devout Catholics and my sister.
I never had any joy or peace. No matter how good I was, what I did ,I could never do enough. God was remote. But…. I read the Bible and saw for myself that He can be known through Jesus Christ and serving Him and sharing the wonderful news of the gospel is what I love to do.
Jesus set me free! The life I now live is a joyful one, even in the the midst of trials and challenges because the Lord will use them for his glory and our good. We live in a broken world but Jesus overcame death, sin and suffering and we will too! We will rise and be with Him forever.
He is my righteousness, dying the death I deserved and living a perfect life I could never live.
One of my favourite verses is
For there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

3:40 and on: intro to 5 solas these are the "pillar of christian faith, if one of them crumbles, the whole church crumbles." Just a thought: if the Catholic church compiled the Christian Bible 300 years or so after Christ's time on earth, then what did early Christians use as scripture prior to the Bible being compiled? (answer: OT which was already compiled by the Jews (thank you) and the gospels and letters, maybe even more, that made it to the multiple congregations of the time. Some letters didn't make the cut to be called inspired scripture.)) Using an abbreviated version (66 books) vs the one compiled, is taking away from the whole 'inspired' word of God. Other fun facts: the Bible was handwritten until...1455. Still expensive to own personally (at the time). The Catholic Church also had a reformation (that didn't cause a split). It was called the 'counter-reformation'.
Jesus didn't give us the Bible/Scriptures. He didn't give us a book or letters, he barely (of all that is recorded) wrote anything. He gave us Men. Traditions. The Holy Spirit.

      John Mathews
The Bible is very clear. After Jesus’s Resurrection, and the Apostle’s died, there could be no more traditions.
I don’t know how Catholics can say they follow Scripture? Again the Bible is so clear, “Do not add or subtract from My book!” Than He listed the punishments for such a grave offense!
All respected teachers today, warn us about the errors of Catholicism. The one true Antichrist church.

Thank you for your reply! This is a long post because you rightfully, asked for references.
First, I don’t know if you have ever read the Bible? I suspect not. One day you will, and it will be so amazing!
I read the Bible for the first time a little over two years ago. I am 57 now.
I went to Catholic school for 8 years, and practiced Catholicism for 42 years, and never missed mass. Had my 3 children baptized as infants and did the other sacraments, including marriage as well.
Just days after being Born Again, I picked up the Bible, and could not believe it! How could I have read this book for 55 years and not realized how incredible God’s Word was!
You are now, where I was, with no true understanding of God’s Word. I can prove it to you, with a very simple question. If you get the question right, I will admit I was wrong. No Catholic has ever gotten it right yet.
      The question:
Who is/was the Bible written for?
      Follow up question:
Did God create an incomplete Bible?
      Ok, to your reply:
I told you only Jesus and his disciples made the traditions. Let’s take a look at Scripture to see if what I said is true?
      1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:2‬
“Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.”
      ‭‭‭
In this verse God, (Speaking through Paul) was happy with the traditions because the true believers (Those in Christ Church. Notice I did not say Catholic Church!) we’re following (Maintaining) the traditions that Paul DELIVERED. The word delivered is past tense!
Let’s look at a verse in Thessalonians:
      2:15
“So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions THAT YOU WERE TAUGHT BY US, either by our spoken word or by our letter.”
Taught by us, (Us, being the Apostles) Again past tense.
Nothing says it better than Colossians:
      2:8
“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, (Satan) and not according to Christ.”
Do those verses sound like God wants humans to create their own traditions? It clearly says the only true traditions come from Christ! The Apostles did not just “Make up” traditions, they were according to Christ!
Those are the first clues that God wants HIS traditions followed; however, God goes deeper into this topic, and absolutely could not be more clear of what He thought about human traditions.
      Here are a few:
      Jesus own words,
“You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.””
      ‭‭Mark‬ ‭7:8‬ ‭
“He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?”
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:3‬ ‭
“he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.”
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:6‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!”
      ‭‭Mark‬ ‭7:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬
If you were Any of the 4 Gospel writers, after hearing Jesus say those words, would you than think to yourself,
“You know what? What we really need to do is start up our own religion, (All religions do this, not just Catholicism) with our own new traditions!”
You asked, “What did Catholics add or subtract from the Bible?”
When religions create their own new “Rules” isn’t that adding to Scripture, or said another way, isn’t it changing the Bible, as God clearly warned against?
For example, the Bible makes it extremely clear (1 Timothy 3) that God wanted the overseer’s (Pastors/priests) to be married, with a honorable family, and to be capable of living an honorable way of life.
Read 1 Timothy 3 and tell me if Catholicism is following God’s wishes for Catholic priests?
      Didn’t Catholicism add: (Partial list)
      * Purgatory
      * Transubstantiation
      * Assumption of Mary
      * Infant baptism
      * Confirmation
      * Annulment
      * Catechism
      * Mass
      * Nuns
      * Graven images (Lot and lots of those!)
Catholics essentially deleted the most important part of the Bible (John 3) which gives us the requirement necessary to get to Heaven. (Born Again)
My brother a genius and a diehard Catholic for 60 years, said to me,
“What is this Born Again thing you keep talking about?”
A friend of mine was choosing Scripture for his Catholic friend’s wedding, and he told the priest he wanted to read from John 3, the priest refused his request, saying
“Sorry you cannot use that Scripture”
I can prove how screwed up Catholicism is by asking this question, (Pretend I am a a potential new Catholic, curious about Catholicism) and I say,
“What do I need to do, to go to Heaven?”
      What would you tell me?
      Be honest.

To be fair and transparent, I will give you the correct answer as to how to get to Heaven.
If a Catholic person says to me,
“Richard, how can I get to Heaven?”
      I say,
“Follow the original Ten Commandments, in Exodus 20. Love Christ with all your heart and soul, and ask God for forgiveness. In other words, repent, turn away from sin. Do this in such a way that you don’t even think of sin. Jesus said, ‘If you look at a woman with lust you have committed adultery in your heart.’
      Than,
If you are truly sincere, the Holy Spirit (Your ride to Heaven) will dwell inside of you, forever. The Holy Spirit will teach you everything that is true and nothing that is a lie and you will not need anyone to teach you. (1 John 2:27)
Once this occurs, your life will change completely! (Born Again) You will naturally start producing ‘Good works’ that come from the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit will manifest inside of you, teaching you EVERYTHING you need to know, and encouraging you towards righteousness. (Sanctification)
Btw, you will know when the Holy Spirit is in you, because you will have the overwhelming desire to tell others about Christ, and sin will disgust you. You will be regenerated!
That’s it! That’s how you get to Heaven!
      That is the true Gospel!”
      John,
Does it say anywhere that I must join a religion and follow its rules? Nope!
Is it required that I go to church? Nope! Do I need to follow anything from any religion? Nope! Do I need anything more than the Bible? Nope!
You think about what you have been taught in your religion. Is it anywhere close to the Gospel that I just presented? Nope!
Catholicism made up an entirely new and unbiblical gospel. In fact, after listening to the true Gospel, the one I just presented to my imaginary Catholic friend, you will probably be embarrassed to tell your version of the Gospel?
But go ahead, give it a try.

      @@richardurban2269 sorry reallllllly long
I can really tell you are excited about Jesus! Here is a little background on me: I have read most of the Bible, and can google it pretty well. I grew up with the Gospel, born again, and as an Elder’s kid. 20+ years of that, my life was stagnant, hearing the same things over and over again and no growth, no further understanding developing.
I will first ask my questions and then answer yours!
How do you define tradition? You use it a lot and I would like to know your view of it.

      How do you worship God?
Do you have a verse reference for your previous post on no more traditions after the Apostles?
      Answers:
The Bible is two parts: Old Testament and New Testament. The Old Testament is derived from the Jewish text called the Septugiant. This text was translated from Hebrew into Greek around 300BC and was the text that Jesus and Crew grew up with, studied, and referenced in his ministry. The New Testament was compiled around cannonized late 300AD but many historians can see that a lot of (today’s) NT was used and citied earlier than that.
The NT consists of Witness Accounts of Jesus ministry and letters to Christian communities. Early Christian leaders went and established churches, leadership traditions that were to continue on.
WHO was the bible written for: the letters were written for those particular communities. The Witness Accounts (gospels) were written, I believe, because the Apostles were getting old and wanted to tell others after their death through writings. Luke was written to Theophilus (1:3)
The truth that is in those letters can be good for Christians today!
Did God create an incomplete Bible? NO! However, not everything Jesus did is contained in the Bible (John 21:25) The traditions that were delivered (1 Cor 11:2) are not detailed. 2 Tim 2:22 mentions an oral message that is to be transmitted to others (but what was it?)
God doesn’t want human traditions interrupting His! The Christ appointed Apostles and the traditions that they set into motion….are they still in motion (is something still a God ordained tradition?) I say yes!
1 Timothy 3 does say married. It doesn’t say they HAVE to be married. Jesus touches on this in Matthew 19:12. Paul was a single Church leader (1 Cor 7:8) Catholic priest and celibacy: I don’t see a contradiction biblically.
Partial List: yes these words are not IN the text of the Bible, but the IDEA of these words are in text of the BIble.
Purgatory: has Jewish roots going to 2 Maccabees (it’s in the Septuagint) and praying for the dead. 1 Cor 3:13 mentions a purging.
Transubstantiation: the idea that bread and wine change into the body and blood of Christ. Ok. sounds odd, but a matter of Faith. John 6:53 (eat or die!) Luke 22:14 and on (do this in remembrance of me)
Assumption of Mary: I am still learning about Jesus’ mother!
Infant Baptism: what is wrong with this? As the God appointed Leader of my Family, why would I deny my child from being a part of God’s family? Households in the NT were baptized. (does this include babies? Doesn’t say)
Confirmation: Peter and John confirmed new Christians in Acts 8:14-17 Could this be a tradition that continues today?
Annulment: I assume you are talking about marriage?
Catechism: so having a book that takes all the parts of a subject and groups it together is a bad thing?
Mass: what?!? The Road to Emmaus: Luke 24: 13-35. The two disciples had some sort of understanding of what happened (13-25), then Jesus walks them through the Scriptures (the Septuagint)(v25-27). They wanted more, strongly urged him to stay! In verse 30 he breaks and blesses the bread, and their eyes were opened! Faith comes from hearing the Word of God (Romans10:17) Mass itself is a huge topic but all the parts of Mass are in the Bible!
Nuns: you have a problem with women that want to serve the Lord?
Graven Images: yes a bad thing. Very bad. Get rid of GRAVEN images. Graven: an idol or representation of a god used as an object of worship. Statues of Saints, Mary, Jesus, crucifix etc are not objects of worship. (they are not God).
John 3: Born again with Nicodemus! Baptism with water is easy. Hear the word of God, have faith, get dunked. (Acts 8:26-40). How does one get baptized with the Spirit (John 3:5)?The freewill of the Holy Spirit to come down and immerse believers can happen anytime! (Acts 10:44, Acts 2:4) Can a confirmation process by God’s appointed and passed down through time and tradition be one? (Heb 6:2, Acts 8:14-17, Acts 9:17, and Acts 19:6)
How to get to Heaven? Take the stairs not the highway.
It’s not a check the box, I’m guaranteed a slot beyond the pearly gates.
Believe in Jesus as the Christ.:: means understanding the history of Jews.
Be Baptized.. Cause its model multiple times in the OT (and Jesus told us to!)
Go and Make disciples (Mat28:19) means understanding who Jesus is!
Join a religion? Upto you I suppose. God chose His people in the Old Testament and gave them rules to follow, and that was too hard for them (even with extra laws to protect them from God’s law!) Jesus came from this people group (Jews). He came though as the Savior for his created world! I want to imitate him, to be Christ-like: Christian.
Required to goto Church?Your freewill Choice! Matthew 16:18 Jesus talks about building a Church. I would think he doesn’t want it empty.
Do you need anything more than the Bible? Well sorta. Jesus didn’t give us a bible. He gave us his Apostles (Matthew 16:19-20), the Holy Spirit (john 14:26) and Traditions.(go and make, do this in remembrance of me, etc)
The Gospel you presented is the one I grew up with. :)
If I grew up cradle catholic, and only went to mass and didn’t dive in, or give an interest into my religion history, yes the Western Culture Protestantism is way more interesting! I did grow up WCP. I know the history, some terms and phrases. And yet, I am becoming Catholic as the fullfillment of my understanding of Christianity!! I have described it as seeing in 4k vs Black and white!

But its okay to believe what you want.

    • @jamespalmer4992
      @jamespalmer4992 8 лет назад +2

+Tree Uchia No, the Church does teach reverence towards Mary but that is not what Mike Gendron said. You can write one sentence of truth that actually came out of his mouth but please follow up with all the other BS Mike said so that we get a clear picture of the conclusion that Mike was attempting to paint. You can't just deal in partial truths. You can sound byte Catholicism all you want, but in the end, it isn't accurate. But you probably don't care because you hate Catholicism so much. Its like Protestants like to add "except when talking about Catholicism" after the commandments "thou shalt not lie" and "thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor". The Church does not teach that Purgatory is a place, but rather is a state of being. And I suppose you can assume that Mary asks Jesus to save our souls from hell - but it is not the Church's doctrine that Christ sends us to hell. Rather, it is a choice we make in the presence of Christ - to reject Him upon our death. It goes against the nature of an all loving God to willingly separate Himself from His creation. And really, sainthood is false. So explain to me, where do you get that? Especially considering saints have been venerated in the Church starting with St. Peter due to the extensively documented rituals of Jewish tradition honoring their dead. So explain to me, where do you get your theology? Is it from a heretical, scrupulotic, and bigoted monk who tried to throw out 3 books of the NT but couldn't find a convienent excuse like he did with the OT? Or maybe from King Henry VIII, who determined with his pastor that he could continue his affair with Anne Boleyn? Or maybe it was John Calvin who decided he didn't like Martin Luther and so he just went up and started his own church for the hell of it. NONE of the reformers even claimed to have had any divine inspiration! At least that would give them an ounce of credibility. But funny thing is, that all of the five solas had never, ever been taught in all of human history up until Martin Luther. It was literally never heard of until then!!! So to say that the biblical writers intended on that interpretation of the Bible is completely false! Your ideas of Christianity have become so diluted that it is shameful. I literally don't know how anyone can be a Protestant. There are 40,000 denominations all thinking they are correct when none of them are and they were all borne from a heresy.

    • @jamespalmer4992
      @jamespalmer4992 8 лет назад +2

***** And the Catholic Church does NOT teach works. It teaches faith AND works. Why do Protestants always forget the faith part? You comment on 50% of the theology and then pass that off as adequate. If you got 50% on a test, do you pass? Its ridiculous. Of course, the Church teaches that because its in the Bible!! Look at James 2:24. How can you even attempt to interpret that passage as anything but works and faith??????? And when Paul comments on works and faith in his letters, do you notice that after works he ALWAYS writes, "of the law"?? So what law could he be referring to? Since Paul was Jewish, don't you think he was probably referring to the Mosaic Law? I mean there is a reason that sola fide had literally never been heard of for 1,500 years! It doesn't make any sense and isn't biblical to begin with!

Mike's first question about why a Protestant left Protestantism for the Roman Catholic Church should be, "What did the Protestant-turned-Roman-Catholic learn about the Roman Catholic Church to convince them to become a Roman Catholic?"

That is simply a Catholic and also secular lie the Bible was not all of a sudden compiled in 390 nor was it decided there.
You have the early church leaders all quoting countless verses from our New Testament and using nothing else as authoritative which is only a quick google search away
Polycarp using around AD 90, clement of Rome, irenaeus, tertullian, etc all of which the Catholic Church have as saints I believe too ironically
      The muratorian canon AD 150
Origen even in AD 240 listed all 27
Athanasius also compiled a list in AD 367
Clearly by simply reading many letters of the early church( not the fake ones) you can see the New Testament had been being passed around the churches and were being used by the church as a whole only nothing else being used.
Which is to be expected Paul tells his churches to pass on his epistles to other churches for their edification as well as Peter who makes reference to Paul’s letters that his audience would be familiar with already.
“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
      ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬
A simple history search would show to both the atheist and the Catholic that these dates assigned commonly to scoff at the word of God is false and that God himself has preserved his word form the beginning of his church by his spirit against all odds and inspire of the vicious persecution for the first 300 years.
If actually researched it truly is a great testimony of Gods sovereignty

I'm pretty convinced that only God can open the eyes of our understanding individually when we show him we are seeking truth, reconciliation, and relationship with him.
My grandma went to church religiously and gave 10 percent and made my papaw do the same under compulsion. And if ever the Bible was mentioned she would suggest the way to be right with God was to follow the 10 commandments. Now how can a lady go to a Baptist church that many years and still not know anything? She didn't want to hear anything about the Bible after I got saved and wanted to talk about hings I've read and learned. It would make her visible shutter and fidgety then I would quickly be inturpted to state the obvious about the surroundings or change the subject to something irrelevant.
Well she's dead now but I hope she wasn't trusting in her keeping of the commandments to get into heaven because Jesus Christ is the only one of us to ever accomplish that.

Unfortunately, too many people believe that Roman Catholicism is a valid expression of Christianity. Do you agree?
If you do not agree, than you worship a different god, and you carry a different Bible.
As a servant of Christ and a messenger for the Holy Spirit, I can assure you, Catholicism is the Antichrist. This revelation was given to me by the Holy Spirit almost one year ago. The Lord has done nothing short of miracles in an effort to make sure I understood this. Btw, I am very thankful for that.
My heart goes out to my blind Catholic family and friends. To this day, I have never met a Catholic (This includes the priest I have been debating for the last 6 months) who has a reasonable understanding of Scripture, not one.
I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible, as the Bible states for a non Christian (Catholic or any other religion) to understand God’s Word. God sends them the delusion. Not the devil, but God.
I know this is not good news for so many, but it is the truth. Religions are the devil’s playground.
Once a religion, and they all do it, tells one of it’s members that a he/she must do “Works” to gain Salvation? It is no longer following Christianity.
In other words, why did Jesus have to die on the cross if man can earn his/her own grace? It is a gift, be thankful, accept His gift, and you will quickly realize how destructive all religions are.

Very true. These guys speak "almost truths". They are like Jehovah's witnesses. They pick and choose things and or take things out of context. Like where this guy says priest tell us to deify a wafer. That is bullpuckey. My priest consecrated a wafer. Jesus did the exact same thing 2,000 years ago with bread and wine COMMANDED us to do the same in his memory. How is that deifying anything?. We are moved by our faith in Jesus words that "this is my body" figuratively speaking that prompts our belief that it actually is. Nobody deifies anything.. I have yet to pray to a wafer, consecrated or not. I may show reverent respect because of the actions of the priest. But deify? Hardly that.
I just took so many issues with this guy and his oh so gentle way of "teaching" how wrong Roman Catholics are. Our beliefs are spelled out plainly in the apostles creed. Also in the Nicene Creed. He claims purgatory is not in the Bible. I beg to differ. I am an ignorant layperson and he a self professed bible scholar of some 30 tears. Even I found the scriptures alluding to it. Not as purgatory per se, but a place of cleansing fire... As was mentioned in the article I read. What need of prayer would a person condemned to hell have? Likewise a person already in heaven would need no prayer so when Matthew and Peter and 2 maccabees implore us to pray for those in the next world. What else would they be speaking of?
Mary as free from sin. That would be absolutely necessary in order for her to bear the Messiah, Emmanual, the Christ in her very body! As the Son of God and as God himself, He could not possibly get next to anything impure. That is that!. Praying TO Mary? We do not. We ask for her intercession as the mother of God. Who would he most likely respond to? I am guessing good ole mom!. Hail Mary prayer is in the Bible. At least 1/2 of it. Her visit to her cousin Elizabeth upon finding out she too was pregnant with what turned out to be John the Baptist. She said. "Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb". This guy is only pointing to almost truths. Just another in a long line of subjugators of the papacy. As a man the pope is in no way infallible. But we believe when acting on behalf of the church he has the same authority as Peter, the first pope. Who was anointed by Jesus as "the rock, upon whom I will build my church". I look forward to my time in purgatory because that will allow me that final cleansing prior to entering into my blessed eternity with God. Amen.

@@NMDecember1 Dear Niamh, Matthew 23:9, "And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in Heaven." Notice, however, that this makes no distinction between spiritual fathers, which is what our priests are to us, and biological fathers. In other words, if you interpret this passage to say, absolutely, that no man is to be called father, you cannot distinguish between calling a priest, father, and calling the man who is married to your mother, father.
But, is that actually what this passage is saying? Or is Jesus warning us against trying to usurp the fatherhood of God? Which, in many ways, is what the Pharisees and Scribes were doing. They wanted all attention focused on them...they were leaving God, the Father, out of the equation. Which is why Jesus goes on to call them hypocrites, liars, and whitewashed tombs.
If you interpret this passage from Matthew 23 as an absolute ban against calling anyone your spiritual father, then there are some problems for you in the rest of Scripture. For example, Jesus, in the story of Lazarus and the rich man in Luke 16, has the rich man referring to Abraham as "father" several times. Paul, in Romans chapter 4, refers to Abraham as the "father" of the uncircumcised, the Gentiles. That's referring to spiritual fatherhood, not biological fatherhood.
In Acts 7:1-2, the first Christian martyr, Stephen, referred to the Jewish authorities and elders who were about to stone him as brothers and "fathers," as does Paul in Acts, chapter 22. This is referring to spiritual fatherhood. So, if you interpret Matthew 23 as saying we cannot call anyone our spiritual father, then you have a problem with Jesus, Paul, Stephen, and the Holy Spirit...they must have all gotten it wrong.
It is okay to call priests "father", just as it was okay for Jesus and Paul to call Abraham "father" and for Stephen and Paul to call the Jewish elders "father." As long as we remember that our true Father is God the Father and that all aspects of fatherhood, biological and spiritual, are derived from Him. And as long as we do not allow anyone else to usurp that role in any way, shape, or form, as the Pharisees and Scribes were prone to do.

But the Bible says nowhere that ONLY scripture (or Bible Alone) is used to spread the word of God. Niamh, the Apostles had no Bibles. Do some research on your Bible Niamh, the one you use. I would bet it is a version that came out of protestantism in the 1500s, and not the Catholic version (the Latin Vulgate) upon which Martin Luther (former Catholic Priest) used in his training to be a Priest. So those who are devoted to "Bible Alone" have a problem. For there was a time when there were no Bibles. Fact is, the Catholic Church gave the world the Bible around 400 AD. So using the "Bible Alone" logic, that means before 400 AD there was no Church! We know that is not true.

You mean the types and shadows in the Old Testament that were signposts of Christ death and resurrection?
Which is why he’s compared to a LAMB who was sacrificed ONCE not over and over again in the Eucharist but he is seated at the right hand of the father and in dwells every believer fully by his Holy Spirit and the righteousness of Christ is Imputed when we get born again.
“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, And in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”
      ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬-‭17‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.”

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
      ‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭29‬ ‭KJV‬‬
It doesn’t matter what kind of addition you add or take away from the gospel nor does it matter what label you claim Paul makes it very clear to the Galatians who had Jews who believed on Christ but wanted to add works and traditions to salvation and the received Paul’s harshest letter in the New Testament that should set an example for all who want to follow Christ.
“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
      ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭KJV‬‬
Goats go to hell for the same reason as other parables such as Paul’s parable of Isaac and Ishmael Abraham sought the promise God made by his own effort and produces the bond child Ishmael , cast out the bond child and through faith Abraham trusting in Gods promise was Isaac born
People who trust in there own merit are children of bondage(ie ishamel) people who trust in the promise by faith alone are of the promise ( ie Isaac)
“And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.”
      ‭‭Romans‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

CCC 2027, “Moved by the Holy Spirit, we can merit for ourselves and for others all the graces needed to attain eternal life, as well as necessary temporal goods.”
And not Christ merit plus our own merit but also Mary’s good works and various saints mix and match so you can hopefully meet the requirement that Christ already met for you
1477, “This treasury includes as well the prayers and good works of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They are truly immense, unfathomable, and even pristine in their value before God. In the treasury, too, are the prayers and good works of all the saints, all those who have followed in the footsteps of Christ the Lord and by his grace have made their lives holy and carried out the mission in the unity of the Mystical Body.”
Works salvation, purgatory , Eucharist(Christ is dying over and over folks), Mary the co mediatrix, praying to the dead saints, penance, the Pope/Vicar of Christ ETC.
Not to mention just flat out lying and misleading people to believe that the Roman Catholic Church has been around since Christ established is non sense. The Church of Rome did not form realistically or start to exist in its current form till after Constantine who set the example for the office of the pope sadly. But over time if you read actual history and not revisionist history the degrade of the Church of Rome happened gradually from mid 4th century onward with the merging of church and state proving to be deadly.
Perhaps the church will change the 9th commandment though shalt not lie just like they changed the 2nd commandment.
bottom line the church is known for changing or outlawing the scriptures when it doesn’t conform to there man made doctrines.

He didn’t just “want” it removed from the Bible, he threw it out of his Bible! Why? Because Martin Luther’s personal fantasy religion was based on “faith alone” despite the fact that no Christian in 1500 years had ever believed such nonsense and Our Blessed Lord specifically preached the opposite. Anyway, the ONLY time that “faith alone” appears in the Bible is in James with the words NOT BY right in front of them!

You understand that there are multiple places in the bible where it says we are saved by grace alone through our faith? Like when Jesus said all those times that those who BELIEVE will not perish. We are saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves. How much more clear could that be? Not of ourselves?? What then does not of ourselves mean? Did we have any part in our salvation but only our faith in the FINISHED work of the Lord Jesus on the cross? Acts 16:30-31 describes what WE do. He says it right there. What must I DO to be saved? And what does Paul say?? Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved? Or does it say, believe, go to mass, do good works, merit the grace you should recieve, ect. No it says believe. It's right there.
What's also right there is in v32 it shows that they spoke the word of the Lord to them. As if it had some higher authority. They couldnt just tell him what to do and walk away. He had to hear Gods word. Find me one spot in the bible where it says that there is any other authority over the very word of God?
Then real quick go to John 19:30 and bask in the Lords words. IT IS FINISHED.
What is finished? When we believe and nothing else that must mean that Jesus' sacrafice was enough and it was was sufficient. Done. Paid. In. Full.
Martin Luther was not a moral example to follow. And in James 2, James is talking about your faith being seen by others. God does not need to see fruit to know your faith is real.
Please, do research for yourself and dont be catholic. Be a biblisist. Contend for your faith. Know it to be true. And also. You dont work for a gift. Salvation is a free GIFT from God. It's not a gift if you work for it, it's a wage. Since catholics like to make sure we are using words right like faith alone, being found in the bible. Tell me, what is a gift if you work for it. Do you worship your family by treasuring a family photo. Do you worship a hero by admiring his statue. Catholics venerate the personality represented by the statue, and treasure the resemblance as a way of placing themselves spiritually near the person depicted. As for the a Eucharist., read John 6. Why oh why do Protestants so vehemently demand that the Bible is true, word for word, but refuse to apply the same rigorous to the Eucharist. John 6 says it all, but protestants seem to want to shuffle around this. Why? Is it too hard to believe that God can do anything? Or is it because they can’t accept that they just have it wrong. Pride is pretty awful when it separates one from Christ.
If you study the Gospels you’ II find that the universal , Catholic Christianity is actually following the words and desires of Christ. Yep it’s been lead at times by not so holy people, and money cannot buy you heaven, but it’s teachings have never varied from the authentic teaching handed down from Christ to his apostles and so to us. Will you go to Heaven?
Here’s a quick test: Have you ever lied, stolen, or used God’s name in vain?
Jesus said, “Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
If you have done these things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart, and the Bible warns that one day God will punish you in a terrible place called H_ll. But God is not willing that any should perish.
Sinners broke God’s Law and *Jesus paid their fine. This means that God can legally dismiss their case:*
*"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have you life.”*
Then Jesus rose from the grave, defeating it. Today, repent and trust Jesus, and God will give you eternal life as free gift. Then read the Bible daily and obey it. God will never fail you. (living waters/ray comfort)
    God bless you.

The fact is that Christ left His Church to guide us and not the bible. Since Pentecost, it was the Holy Spirit guiding His Church through the teachings of the apostles and it has been this absolute truth that was passed down by the successors of the apostles generation after generation. I think that one of the greatest defenders of the Christian faith (Irenaeaus of Lyons) stated this best in his writing "Against Heresies", when he taught:
"It is incumbent to obey the presbyters who are in the Church-those who, as I have shown, possess the succession from the apostles; those who, together with the succession of the episcopate, have received the infallible charism of truth, according to the good pleasure of the Father. But [it is also incumbent] to hold in suspicion others who depart from the primitive succession, and assemble themselves together in any place whatsoever, either as heretics of perverse minds, or as schismatics puffed up and self-pleasing, or again as hypocrites, acting thus for the sake of lucre and vainglory. For all these have fallen from the truth".

@@GR65330 : I’m intrigued that many do not use Scripture in comments but writings of someone else’s thoughts and opinions. I also find it interesting that God in Ezekiel was so disgusted with the Jews for placing statues in the temple and the women crying over Tammuz, ( forty days which was brought into the church as Lent) who’s mother was also known as the “Queen of heaven”, who Jeremiah prophesied about was abhorrent to God. Im sure you’re aware of Seraramis, Nimrod and Tammuz from the Tower of Babel. Much of the paganism from that time made it into the early church and has remained.
Jesus told us in Matthew to call no man on earth “father” for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
ITimothy tells us we need not confess our wrong doings to anyone but Jesus. For there is one God and one mediator between God n men, the man Christ Jesus.
As well, the belief that the church was built on Peter is not what Matthew 16:18 refers to. When Jesus spoke to Peter by name He used the word for a small moveable stone (a pebble) but the word rock, (Gr petra) means immovable foundation. Jesus was saying the church would not be built on Peter “the pebble” but upon Christ, the massive Rock and chief cornerstone of the church.
There’s many “religions” that in some form or fashion have taken pagan rituals and traditions into the church; some much more than others. However, slapping a “Christian” label on something that disgusts God, can fool people but not the Lord. Revelation in the first 3 chapters tells us about the 7 different types of churches there would be.
Pergamos comes to mind, which represents the 4th century Rome. If your theology is wrong, so is the doctrine.
After Alexander the Great died, his four generals split up the territory he had conquered. We see this in our history books as well as in Daniel. Antiochus Epiphanies slaughtered ever high priest in Jerusalem and thus began the tradition of giving church titles to the highest bidder. This was eventually a very lucrative business for the church since society did not own bibles and had to rely on wolves in sheep’s clothing.
We can also look at history during the time of Nero and Constantine. It’s very clear that both paganism and the early church were melded together. Then the Roman church began burning, torturing and killing anyone who disagreed with them after Martin Luthers 99 thesis that was nailed to the church door exposing the apostasy of church leaders.
Lastly, the inquisition is what drove people to look for a place where they could forge a Judeo/Christian/bible based country away from persecution.
All that to say….that is why “religion” if fickle and sways as the winds blow, but the Word of God will never die and not return to Him void (Isaiah 55)
I do appreciate the response tho 😉

I am not a Catholic hater, it was actually the last thing I expected. I have listened to Scott Hahn, seriously, he does not speaks on God’s behalf.
There is a lot of money involved for those that leave God’s Word to return to the Antichrist. The devil makes sure of that. Scott made a career out of it. I noticed on Scott’s podcasts, 10 were on Mary and one was on Jesus. His relationship with a dead person, (Jesus mother) who has never heard a prayer, is truly sickening.
I became a Catholicism hater, after I was born again. Jesus said we must be born again, to get to Heaven. Everyone who is born again receives gifts from the Holy Spirit. I did, my wife did, and we know what gifts we received, as they are incredible gifts!
I have been researching this for a year, and I have never found a Catholic with any of the gifts? You don’t have any of the gifts. The biggest lie a Catholic person is taught, is that they have been born again. Trust me, from a person whose life changed completely on February 10th 2019 (Born again) you have not been born again.
Do you think you been born again? If you think so, do you know what day it was? Do you know what gifts you received? You don’t. Catholic’s always try to claim they have, but they get caught in their lies.
When Jesus says you must be born again to even see Heaven, much less enter Heaven, you must admit it is very important? In 42 years of being Catholic, no priests ever spoke on the topic! I did not learn about it until I started reading the Bible.
      As a Catholic,
How do you get past 1 Timothy 4? How do you get past Revelations 17?
Does your brain not see the words clearly printed on the pages, describing Catholicism as the Antichrist? The amazing thing is, you will tell me, “It’s not talking about Catholicism” God sends you that delusion. Keep that in mind, it’s not the devil, it’s God. How do you expect to go to Heaven, when God is sending you delusions? I debated a priest for 6 months, he was also completely delusional on Scripture.
You have been given the message, what I tell you is not only true, it must be true. On Judgement day, you will have no excuse, Jesus will say,
“I sent a messenger who told you the truth, My Holy Word, told you the truth, but you rejected all of it to follow a religion.”
Do you want to live with Christ on earth? I promise you, not being Catholic is the first start.

Wow!!! I cannot believe this? It Is fascinated, I gave you the verses! Tell me again, you said,
“Where does the Bible even hint of Catholicism being the Antichrist?”
Read these verses again and again, (In both cases you don’t need to go beyond verse 5). See if you can find Catholicism being described? This is for my research.
Once I was born again, about a week later the Holy Spirit lifted the veil of misunderstanding from the Bible! I could now understand it. This is really an incredible event!
      Note:
He lifted it a few days earlier for my wife and she was so fascinated with the Bible that she only slept a few hours a day, the rest, reading the Bible, this went on for a week.
Again, this is a very noticeable event, we had tears in our eyes, we were so happy! I was reading the Bible for the first time! (Although, I had read the Bible on and off for 55 years) I want you to experience that!
I did not listen to Catholics haters, I just read the Bible. The Bible is totally incredible! Every word in it is true, even Genesis. Of course Catholicism does not believe in Genesis, fools.
Last year, (2019) I spent 2,000+ hours studying the Bible! It only took a few weeks for me to realize, like millions and millions of others already know, that the demonic faith was the very faith my parents taught me to respect.
I had no doubts what the Lord was showing me. This is why there was a reformation 500 years ago! Because millions of people have been saved, and of course properly understand the Bible.
You said I am in a sorry state? I used to know God very little, and now I work for Him! My Catholic family and friends say the same, they say Satan has entered me? Perhaps you are all right? God says you will know by the fruit. Since being born again, I spend my free time with others spreading the Gospel! Studying the Bible constantly! I doubt that comes from Satan, just the opposite in fact.
No AJA, I really think your gasping at straws here, Satan does give people the will to spread the Gospel to everyone they meet. When your saved, you become part of God’s family, God starts letting you see truths, not only that but He guides you through the Bible, helping you to understand it clearly. It’s amazing!!
      1 John 2:27
You obviously could not answer many of my important questions, but don’t worry no other Catholic can either.
What gifts did you receive from the Holy Spirit? Don’t lie to me, you will get caught and look silly.
Does your priest ever speak about what happens when your born again?
      Never!!!!
The biggest lie Satan’s Church wants you to believe, is that you have been born again, although it’s never spoke of? Your told that when your a child. It’s up to you to figure out whether it’s true? It’s not. Admit it, you were told this, it’s man made. The Catholic Church teaches you that the Holy Spirit is in dwelled in the Catholic Church and you are baptized into the church. How goofy is that? (Remember, no not one man is good, not one) The Bible speaks on being born again, a lot, and I promise you, you have NOT been born again!
Here is what a Catholic fool says, “I was born again when I was baptized”. Oh crap, that’s what you said! Well, it’s still the truth. If I were you, I would want absolute proof that I was born again, and I would not stop until I have the very noticeable gifts from the Spirit. Perhaps getting to Heaven is not a priority for you? If not, then don’t worry about being born again. I’m sure Hell can’t be that bad?
As for Peter, Jesus did not build His Church on the pebble (Peter, Petros =small pebble) He built it on Peter’s proclamation. Think about it? Jesus is the Rock, it says so more than 30 times in the Bible. The Church is being built on Jesus. Use some basic logic!
Don’t believe anything that you cannot read in Scripture.
As for the Lord leading me to 40,000 denominations? Why do all Catholics believe this crap? I am not in any denominations? I don’t know of any of those that I fellowship with that are in any denominations? Let me say this, if anyone is following any man made doctrines, they are not part of God’s family.
Catholicism is nearly identical to Mormonism, a lot of man made nonsense in both, and both believe it’s followers will become gods. CCC841 The Catholic Church also wants to join with Islam. Evil begets evil I guess?
If your following Christ, following only His Word and accepting His Grace as full payment for your sins, your not in a religion. Your a Christian.
Once people have convinced you that what Jesus did is not enough, and the Bible is not enough, your in a religion.
Spiritual people go to Heaven, religious people don’t.

No doubt there are mistakes in the Catholic teaching, but you can find many false teachings among the Evangelical Churches as well.
Regarding the justification, the Reformation is relying solely on the wrong interpretation of St. Paul's doctrin and on sentences taken out of context from the St. John's Gospel.
None of the Bible citations supporting the Reformation doctrin of salvation in this video comes from other parts of the Holy Scripture, especially not from the other 3 Gospels.
Salvation by faith? Yes, by faith not only in God's existence and Jesus's redeeming sacrifice, but also by faith in God's word - which is the starting point of "living" God the Father's and Jesus's commandments, of bringing them into realization in our life. It's not possible to keep the moral commandments without having faith they are the true word of God. This faith, prior to following the commandments and accompanying the ever ongoing striving to keep them, it is what St. Paul ment by faith.
He didn't abolished the commandments (if so, then only some which are ritual in nature, like the circumcision, some eating laws etc.), he just reversed the order from " we must keep the commandments in order to be saved" into "we are saved, therefore we must keep the commandments".
Regarding the salvation, keeping them isn't optional. You can see this in all the other parts of the scripture, but also by St. Paul.
    For instance:
"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not bedeceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God". (1Corinthians 6:9-10)
"Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS of God is what matters".
    (1Corinthians 7: 19)
"For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love." (Galatians, 6:6)
Please notice: Not a 'Faith alone', but a 'Faith WORKING' through the works of love:
"For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this:" You shall love your neighbor as yourself.""(Galatians 6:14)
Being freed from the law is for St. Paul conditional:
"But IF you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." (Galatians 6:18)
And he explained, what does it practically mean to be led by the Spirit:
"Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, licentious ess, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like, of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in the past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, piece, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."
    (Galatians 6:19-23)
St. Paul substitutes the old Judaic law with a new law of Christ, which is an even more demanding law:
"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
    (Galatians 6:2)
To believe (as understood by the Evangelical Churches) is an easy task which can be accomplished in few minutes. Following Jesus's commandments is a task for life.
The Catholic Church puts emphasis on obeying God, and it makes up for many of the flaws in its doctrine.

You say that during the Eucharist Jesus' actual physical flesh is present in the wafer, and Jesus' actual physical blood is present in the cup. Therefore, by your own admission, Jesus' actual physical blood is poured out for many -- from the cup -- each and every time you have Mass. That is to say nothing of the Roman teaching that you are gnawing on and eating His actual physical flesh (which, by the way, is cannibalism and condemned by Jesus). But the pouring out of Jesus' blood for many is a re-sacrifice of Jesus, over and over and over again. And, by the way, there is nothing in Scripture that says Jesus' actual physical flesh and blood are present in the elements. The Roman church has been misunderstanding, and misleading many on, those passages for centuries. Both Jesus and Paul refute the very idea that Romanism teaches.

Constantine brought paganism and Christianity together causing the great falling away.
In the Bible God forbids us to eat human flesh and to drink blood. THIS IS A SATANIC RITUAL.
In the Bible God says to call no man father and do not do repetitious praying like the heathens do.
In the Bible God says He is the only one who can forgive sins through His Son Jesus. There is no other way.
Jesus is the truth, the way and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through Him alone.
Who do you think Jesus was talking about in Revelation 17:4-5
The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.
And on her forehead was a name written MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT. THE MOTHER OF HARLETS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
The catholic church is full of idols. They deleted God's 2nd Commandment 'Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness that's in heaven, on or under the earth, in or under the sea. Thou shalt not worship them or bow down to them' and they halved the last commandment to make up ten.
There is an obelisk outside the vatican which represents Nimrod, sungod worship. Mary represents semi-ramas symbolised by a crescent moon and baby Tammuz is camouflaged by baby Jesus in Semi-ramas arm's.
      There is your MYSTERY BABYLON.
I love the Catholic people and so saddened that 1.3billion are being deceived.
I know Jesus loves them because He says in the Bible 'COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE AND DO NOT PARTAKE IN HER SINS AND RECEIVE NOT OF HER PLAGUES'
Jesus said THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.
It is BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH WE ARE SAVED AND NOT OF OURSELVES.
We need to humble ourselves, repent of sins, accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and believe He died on the cross for our sins, was buried, arose from the dead on the 3rd day, ascended into heaven and sits on the right hand of God.
We need to be born again in The Holy Spirit and we become a new person. The Holy Spirit, dwelling in us gives us comfort, peace, joy, encouragement and helps us to overcome sin and guides us in good works but not of ourselves.
Jesus wants us to have a personal relationship with Him. Pray and walk close to Him.
We cannot work our way into heaven. Jesus says our works are like filthy rags. He paid for our sins on the cross. Before He died He said 'IT IS FINISHED' and the curtain separating the sacrificial alter was ripped from top to bottom.
Jesus was the sinless sacrificial lamb that took on the sins of the world.
It is by GRACE ALONE THROUGH FAITH WE ARE SAVED AND NOT OF OURSELVES.
The true church of Christ consists of those who have been born again in The Holy Spirit, have become a new person in Christ and follow Him. His bride. His New Jerusalem.
