lofi was called oldschool rap beats back then but uhm mostly there are different tracks of those beats so after that people created a genre for it. thats my theory
What you called jazzy lo-fi hip-hop is pretty much the backbone of east coast hip-hop. Even hardcore acts like Wu and Mobb Deep is rooted in the same style. Coolest thing about this song however, was the fact that Warren G is the producer.
This instrumental is surprisingly underrated for such a popular track. In my opinion one of the best rap instrumentals of all time, a perfect balance between ominous and chill, gives me goosebumps every time.
this sounds like a lost gem wow...its crazy how this song is 19 years old. im over here amazed and I wasn't even breathing in 94. just crazy. For some reason this sounds like it didn't come out in the 90's.
This is pure, unadulterated hip-hop production. I don't understand why some people think this sound is some type of sub genre.... this is Hip-Hop... Golden Era shit... 🤦🏽
@laloyyoli1...dude...do your history...Warren G produced this. Warren G had to talk Slick Rick into getting the track cuz at first,Rick didnt like it,but later on admitted he made a big mistake in not feeling it at first.
Somehow this actually came out in 1994 1 Year before a person Died or Whatever but even if you Could Actually listen to this song It somehow sounds exactly like Lofi music from the 90s
Why do things gotta be so complex? while its simple for me, to rip a beat out of context. Why ya bickering about, who you thinks on top, best? "Who me?" , yea nigga im next. Im set, and caught this beat like a std, f wit me ill be on my feet, in a heartbeat. Me and all my niggas strapped up like some car seats, and all of our bitches go down like our enemies
Yo slick rick killed this n ima do the same, except ima stray away from the songs name, did time b, but thats behind me, still treat the rap game like a crime spree, murder every track i touch, jack beats n spit hot 16's like a gat that bust, the gangstas don't last n it's tuff, 4 niggas2 keep it real like that shits askin 2 much, i split a dutch n 4get that stuff, roll for dolo like a blunt to the face, no gun on my waste
@@hyghtec5149 Im assuming he means that this is good because of the fact that he was a black man in the 90s (which is considered the best time and type for hip hop)

lofi before lofi.
i usually cant think straight but this track makes it easier.
I feel like Lofi was around before it even had a name lol

Mostly East Coast oldschool hiphop beats,
There's also Jazzhop beats which Tribe Called Quest did a ton of

You know how outkast says they're tryna catch that feelin off instumental I think they had this beat in mind
SoulessGingerCarlos Andre and Big Boi rhyming over this beat would be monumental.

Warren G tearing it up on the production
One of the illest use of samples in a hip-hop track in my opinion. He always on point though.
The sample is Les McCann -Sometimes I Cry, for any lofi producers out there

2022 in mid March feels so weird but somehow this beat grounds me. Miss the old days, love out from South TX! 💚
Produced by Prince Paul. The remix is labeled as such because of Warren G's appearance- not that he produced this.

I wish Warren G made more non-Gfunk beats.
Prince Paul
Hes black and it was the 90s.
Wtf does that mean? There were plenty of black rappers and it was the 90's. Not taking offense at all just curious
