a few years ago 2003-2007 i could play real music and people could relate even though they weren't necessarily exposed to it, they'd ask me what or who made that beat and i 'd be like Pete Rock or dj premier, nowadays i'll play a pete rock masterpiece or dj quik funky ass beat and cats don't even get IT, it's like they don't resonate with that frequency, pete rock produced 'juicy' for biggie they'll respond to that, not coz they actually get IT but rather coz they saw 'the movie'...sad really
