Hasbro is in a weird position with Power Rangers. It was one of the biggest media franchises of the 90s, one of their biggest competitors, but now it’s gone more niche, to the point where most general audiences aren’t aware that it’s been going on to this day. It’s not necessarily a dead brand, but Hasbro needs to give it the Beast Wars treatment, something bold and creative, if they want to win back audiences. Until then I hope we can get at least a few new Lightning Collection figures for 2024.
I'll be sad if we don't complete the Lightning Collection figure-lines for the Dino Fury Rangers. I skipped over the regular figures in favour of the Lightning Collection versions, so with only half the team released so far, the year hiatus is concerning. Especially since it's likely if we get more of the squad at some point, I expect they'll instead be in their Cosmic Fury forms instead,
the beast wars treeat ment yep sounds about right i havnt seen anything since Mystic force but even then eps of ninja storm SPD and even dino thunder got ....weird like Rally weird MMPR or even Zeo they were not and Far From stuff like In space or turbo
With Warden in charge, I fear that he’s going to go full GEEWUN for MMPR nostalgia. However, I don’t think he’ll be able to act on that given 1) the unfortunate loss of the original Red, Yellow and Green Rangers and 2) fans of other seasons growing tired of all the MMPR nostalgia bait (Once and Always is the exception).
I honestly consider Once and Always as the exception because we put focus on MMPR rangers who tend to be overlooked the most. Since to mainstream casual PR fans who only saw MMPR, the popular ones were Jason, Tommy, and Kimberly. So having it focus on Billy and Zack who we haven't seen for over 20 years, the canyon trio and Katt as supporting characters, and be a tribute to Trini's actress with Trini's daughter taking up the role after her mom's death was what won many fans who are tired of MMPR over. Myself included.
Once & Always was very much a passion project rather than the soulless nostalgia bait it could’ve been. It’s obvious that this is a story they wanted to tell, especially to give Thuy Trang the proper send off/tribute in the PR universe that she never got, and to give David Yost a good memory of working on PR.
Warden did great with G.I.Joe and threw in plenty of new concepts. Not sure why you think he will go full classic. He has a boss to answer to aswell, so it’s hard to always know who is to blame for certain poor decisions.
The qc problems wont be fixed. Fans said that when they moved to plastic free packaging, fans said that when they spiked the price twice....hasbro has no desire or incentive to charge direction.
With Lightning Collection basically on break because of stacking QC issues, not to mention the Plastic-Free Packaging fiasco that is gonna end soon, I expect they would bring the line back the way it was before, re-release every wave in the Plastic-Free era with the old packaging style, and get their screws tightened on to get things better.
The Netflix reboot, said from Johnathan Entwisle himself are going to be 100% original rangers. Nothing MMPR related. Also I'm pretty sure Hasbro knows they can't keep milking the MMPR well forever. Especially since they don't exactly have a lot of popular material from that season to work with. Pretty much the only popular stuff from MMPR is from season 1 and 2 to general audiences that remember it from the 90s. Season 3 stuff is only sparsely remembered. MMPR doesn't exactly have a large well of characters to work with that people are gonna want like G1 Transformers fans want. Plus Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black Series continue to make toys of characters who aren't part of the mainstream movies and comics for customers to buy. So if they can do that for those lines it's not that difficult to do it for other ranger teams. Same thing with obscure Transformers characters in their Generations mainline. Hasbro hasn't really made any plans to move forward on an animated PR show. All we've heard since then is that it's a proposed idea but not something they're going to work on yet. My best guess is that they want to get this rebooted show that's been delayed for so long made and see how well it does. Maybe then they'll try to start expanding the brand. Brian Goldner originally planned PR to be like what Star Trek is now with multiple shows. But Hasbro right now doesn't seem to want to give PR the budget to have 2 shows be worked on at the same time like they used to with Transformers. Where one show is aimed at kids while the other is for older fans.
I'm not the biggest Power Rangers fan, but I am stunned AND disappointed that John Warden & co. have not included the Combiner Wars/POTP combiner system for a Megazord in the time since the buyout - the wordplay for "Scramble Power Rangers" is right freakin' here!
I'll be real, if a future Hasbro Power Rangers reboot going back to Mighty Morphin is the route they go, I'm going to be SUPREMELY bummed out. I hate seeing franchises stagnate by limiting their scope to "the good years." Then again, I wasn't allowed to watch Power Rangers until Lost Galaxy, and even then didn't have much access to it until the Disney era. Part of the fun of following PR was seeing a new team with their own story each year, with a beginning, middle and end. It's why I still enjoy following Sentai. And when you consider other things from around the time... in Transformers, it was normal for the entire cast to get a radical new facelift every couple years, and not just more G1. In Bionicle, it was normal to have a rotating cast, with a new team every couple years, even if we'd already known them in other forms from the beginning. As a Megaman fan, it was normal to frequently move to a new century or even continuity, with new aesthetics and ideas. There was always something new. And yeah, that's the way I like it. I'm not saying they have to be into EVERY version of a thing, but I'm genuinely perplexed by people who stopped following or even doing the occasional google search because they ONLY want the MM gang. People say PR/SS is just the same thing over and over, but this literally would be.
The idea of PR coming back as an animated series is a solid idea with just one very major problem: It can't happen in a way anybody would be happy with. There was already at least one animated pitch given and, while the US side (don't remember if it was Saban or Hasbro by that point) was on board, Toei immediately rejected it outright. Toei for some reason adamantly refuses that Sentai elements by animated, most likely something with holding their copyrights preventing it. The only way you get an animated series is with a complete separation of Toei from the brand, and while that is looking more and more likely by the day, it also means all of the visual iconography of the franchise (Suits, Mecha, Monsters/Villians) goes with it. The only thing Hasbro will get to keep is character names and maybe some of their PR created designs and that's about it. It would have to have a visual identity so distinct it wouldn't even recognizably be Rangers to get made. Imagine the 2017 movie designs, but with even less recognizable elements from the original designs (like DinoZords that are even less recognizable as dinos than those things were), because that's how far they will have to go to not get sued by Toei. You get to keep the suit colors and that's about it, and even that might be more than they can get away with. Do you remember Final Fantasy XV? There was Magitek Armor DLC that had to be delayed and redesigned because Saban threw a fit and threatened to sue. When the armor finally released they couldn't even have multiple colors, because it was that bad. Toei will absolutely do that same degree of stuff to Hasbro when the visual rights fully revert to them.
Honestly the moment PR started deviating from what it was for 17 years, I stopped being fully invested. Of course I kept up with news, reviews, etc., however RPM was the last time I honestly loved PR. A lot of it is just my own biases and desire for normalcy and order, but I miss the new sentai, PR adaption the following year, 30 to 40 episodes over one year, and the anniversaries for both lining up really well. I take so much comfort from knowing Sentai is so far away from ever changing itself the way PR has, and that is ultimately why I care and love Sentai more these days. What made Power Rangers so special was the hybrid of Japanese action and a solid formula, along with the American way of storytelling, and it stops being that if it goes animated and rehashing MMPR permanently, becoming every other boys action brand in the US. I understand this from a business perspective and I respect the hustle, but my lord is it depressing seeing this happen. TL;DR: I haven’t had the same passion for PR since the start of the Neo-Saban era and probably never will again since PR lost what made it unique.
I really love the idea of animated Power Rangers being a thing, it would be interesting if Hasbro asked an Anime studio to make the animation then all we have to do is provide the voice cast.
I am honest happy seeing someone who is in the Transformers Fandom talking about how Power Rangers is doing currently as I have noticed the fandom, if they aren't part of any other Hasbro's fandom that they do like to say Power Rangers its much smaller than it is
Back in the 90’s, hasbro saved the transformers franchise with beast wars as it flipped the rule book and did something original and daring while also referencing what people liked before it. That is exactly what Power Rangers needs today
The QC issues with the Lightning collection are no joke. I had to exchange my mighty morphin megazord twice and my dragonzord once before I got ones that didn't have QC issues.
Dropping the live action part would be disappointing. I grew up with live-action superheroes and sci-fi shows but by the time of Mighty Morphin' that all disappeared. Power Rangers revitalized the live-action action shows for kids not only in superheroes but in sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and other genres. As much as I champion animation and cartoons for superheroes and other science fantasy properties Sentai/Power Rangers was designed with live action in mind and to see it change would be to lose what set it apart. Not that it matters for me because I don't have Netflix so I won't be able to watch it anyway. It may also weaken the Sentai fandom in the US because Shout Factory showing the original version of the previous Power Ranger team is a big part of their "TokuSHOUTsu" project.
i think the blame for the cost cutting and overall loss of quaity of the power rangers [ and indeed in transformers] can be laid on the execs at Hasbro overly investing in wizards of the coast and with dnd and magic the gathering.
Wouldn't surprise me, they're too busy wanting to deal with WoTC and its properties, while making their second media production company over actually dealing with their damn toys. We've seen the fans, often rightly, complain about the decline of quality of their lines (GI Joe, Marvel, PR, TF, MLP, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.) because I honestly feel like Hasbro doesn't want to be a toy company any more. Hell, I'm mostly into the Lightning collection for the monsters, and while I've been lucky with my Zedd, Pudgy, Salugana and Pumpkin Rapper when getting them new (I got King Sphinx second-hand and that's probably how I'm getting Goldar), Eye Guy is starting to have his paint rub off, has a dent in one of the eyeballs on his right arm, and I think he might be suffering from the yellow plastic syndrome Transformers has been suffering for a while now.
If Hasbro really doesn’t own enough of the imagery they can’t make an animated reboot of MMPR… they were stupid to buy the brand. But the best thing they could do now is secure those rights with Toei. Animated MMPR with some design changes and fresh monsters and stories would be a great start.
I think Hasbro just need take the year or so off, and come back with a completely new reboot. Probably an animated one probably similar to Netflix voltron. I think people need to start realizing while it can be annoying for hardcore fans, MMPR is what the general public wants. That makes the sales. Maybe Hasbro could try to make to also try do a pulse exclusive for previous ranger team.
Since Hasbro owns power rangers, maybe they could do some sort transformers crossover? For some reason I feel like transformers crossing over with power rangers makes more sense than G.I. Joe
I think the same. Transformers and Power Rangers just have more in common than G.I. Joe and either of the two aforementioned franchises. The concepts of Energon and the All-Spark, and what the Morphin' Grid is capable of, aren't that different. Plus, both have (or in the case of the Transformers, _are_ ) giant robot mechs. Both are also "Interstellar" franchises, which gives you alot more leeway with making stuff make sense. As far as I know, G.I. Joe is strictly Earth-based (though I'm sure I do remember there being a space-based spin-off at one point, it's not like that ever stuck).
It was G.I.Joe Rise of Cobra that was pushed through despite the writers strike. Retaliation was a bit of a victim of multiple schedule changes due to Star Trek taking priority… and Snake Eyes just sucked, I don’t see any excuse for the issues there.
Not releasing a whole team at once is good, I do agree that it then leaves the question of IF they are going to finish them relatively soon. That’s a fear with now Lightspeed Blue coming out for my fav season! And then a year of nothing?
Also that they'll change stuff like they did for SPD's rangers, LG with not everyone getting their preferred trans dagger, yellow not getting her proper sword, only two quasar launchers, or that they'll force a dupe buy like with psycho red if you wanted a quaser saber for red that wasn't sheathed.
That happened with my copy of the wedding figure set. The Rita head just came out of the joint for no reason. I wasn’t even putting that much pressure on it, it just came off. Luckily I was able to fix it, and that seems to have worked.
I think that Hasbro does not know what to do with Power Rangers. I think they that Hasbro will use the SAG strike as a way to cancel Power Rangers and use the strike as an excuse. I'm talking tv show/movie reboot of course. I think the future of Power Rangers will be licensing like to Boom Studios.
WHAT THE LIGHTNING COLLECTION SHOULD CONSIST OF. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (all colors, Lord Drakkon, Ranger Slayer, Ninja Rangers, Metallic Armor Rangers, Bulk and Skull as the purple and orange rangers, and Trina’s daughter Minh) The Dark Rangers (both the season 2 team and the Boom Studios team) Omega Rangers (including Gold/Death Ranger) Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers Power Rangers Zeo Power Rangers Turbo Power Rangers in Space Psycho Rangers (all 7 colors) Power Rangers Lost Galaxy Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue Power Rangers Time Force Power Rangers Wild Force Power Rangers Ninja Storm Power Rangers Dino Thunder Power Rangers SPD Power Rangers Mystic Force (including Udonna and Leanbow) Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (yeah I know I can’t believe i typed that too) Power Rangers Jungle Fury (including Jarrod, Camille, and the Spirit Rangers) Power Rangers RPM Power Rangers Samurai (with Jayden and Lauren as Red Rangers) Power Rangers Mega Force Power Rangers Dino Charge (all 11 rangers) Power Rangers 2017 movie The Solar Rangers Power Rangers Ninja Steel Power Rangers Hyper Force (with Time Force Silver and Hyper Force Green Rangers) Power Rangers Beast Morphers Power Rangers Dino Fury Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Show this list to every PR fan you know. Hasbro should see this list
I'm more a Sentai guy, and the only real Power Rangers toys I've been collecting are the ZAPs since 1) I was curious about the first one, and 2) I don't have a DX Astro Megazord and it's expensive on the aftermarket. So as long as they do a ZAP Delta Megazord, I really don't care. I'm so tired of MMPR as a whole, that if the franchise died tomorrow my biggest reaction would probably be "bummer."
I have the same issue with the pterodactyl not staying pegged in, although that one is more of a hit or miss. I have permanently decided to leave the open hands off, simply because I think the slots where you would peg in the ball joints are too small. So, I’ve just decided to leave them off. I post figures with their default hands, anyways.
I think their best bet is to do a true reboot on Mighty Morphin (sorry). I think they'll lose fans unless they keep it live action, and based on the success of Once and Always, bringing back some of the old cast is a good idea, but have them play the parents or mentors of the actors filling in their old roles. Take all the good ideas that have been explored in the comics and introduce those as well. Also, and this is very important, they must keep the camp factor. The 2017 tried to be more serious, and it was roasted for it. Power Rangers is meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
In UK Power Rangers toys barely exist in any Stores no matter the line. Last years Smyths toys Christmas Year book the UK big Toy Chain all it had for the line showed was the play weapons thats it.
I'm legally required to leave a like and a comment for something that isn't Transformers. While we're taking a break, could we get a toku video or two? I've been a very good boy, I've finished my homework and eaten all my vegetables. Can't we have some toku as a treat?
I'l be honest. despite getting in on the series right when it began back in '93, if they DO go ahead with this reboot of mighty morphin I'm probably going to be done with the franchise. One of my biggest gripes with the series is the almost slavish dedication to enforcing the MMPR nostalgia. Things like Bulk's ill-fitted inclusion in Samuraior the onslaught of comic relief slapstick duos. The worst being how bad of a crossover the Ninja Steel aniversary was, it was just bad Tommy fanfiction. So for Hasbro to forever swear off anything legitimately new instead just going with the lazy and creatively bankrupt idea? That'll be my last straw, I'll just rely on Super Sentai 100% for this particular fix
Whatever they do next: it's Hasbro's last chance to sell me on this era. There's enough legacy PR content that I won't have to touch the new stuff, if I don't switch over to Sentai completely
Hasbro really acting like they dont want to be a toy company right now, they only focusing on licensing, even their big ips Like they have been going real hard with MLP G4 on China right now
As for some more sincere ideas on how Hasbro could course-correct while leaving the Hasbro mark on this era, having an animated Power Rangers *_spin-off_* alongside the traditional live-action tokusatsu as the "main" series could work if handled with enough care I also think it'd be smarter for Hasbro to just bite the bullet and collaborate with Toei & Bandai for strategic partners (maybe also ask TakaraTOMY for help?) rather than trying to wholly decouple PR from its roots in Super Sentai - so long as all parties can be on the same page & pool their resources effectively, I could genuinely see that working out Lastly, make as many of the shows available to watch in full on as many platforms as possible: streaming services like Netflix or Tubi, Nick and/or other cable fixtures, the works - maybe even PBS or local stations to throw them a bone?
Well said. On the subject of decoupling from Sentai. I know a lot of Power Rangers fans do not care about Sentai (Heck, I've only seen Gokaiger and a third of Abaranger), but I think trying to completely divorce the franchise from its roots is a bad move.
To be honest, I have zero faith in the franchise right now, product and show wise. If they go animated they'll have to make the art direction very not tokusatsu to avoid legal trouble(since toei is very against animated stuff with super sentai) and we all know how the 2017 movie suits and zords turned out. The real Achilles Heel of this franchise is not the budget, but how do you make content from it that's original without a sentai to base something on. Hasbro just doesn't seem to know what they're doing, and the LC hiatus along with no clear future for the franchise makes it feel like PR is dying and Hasbro doesn't fully care if it does cause they got transformers.
They should end the lightning line and all toy lines sents they don't know what they are doing and they already got other companies doing the toys better than them and they should sell power rangers to shout factory sents that is the kind of stuff they specialize in.
animation is the worst choice for power rangers, it's tokusatsu first, second, and last. that'd be the point i hard drop my favorite western franchise lol
@@557deadpool the weak figure series I see on clearance or if not on clearance never leaving the shelves? They hoped the movie would help sell he figures but the D&D fan base is very small these days.
If you ever watched avataro sentai Don brothers the cgi is really rough and with the designs of the rangers there I think it would have worked better as an anime to be honest. And I've been thinking the power rangers should have gone animated years ago
If Hasbro goes the Mighty Morphin route again I am done with PR. I have Sentai to fill the itch. I'm not a do Gen 1 ad nauseum kind of person. Mighty Morphin is my least favorite PR series.

And some other stuff.

One thing that is utterly weird is the lack of a Power Rangers vs. Transformers comic miniseries.

Hasbro owns the license to Power Rangers, not Super Sentai.
@@MIRLZY Yes but the suits, weapons, monsters, footage, and other things are licensed from Super Sentai.

Looking forward to Hasbro putting Power Rangers in a set for Magic the Gathering at this rate :V
16:16-16:28 Masterful. Simply masterful.
I honestly just hope they do a ZAP Shogun Megazord at some point.
If there’s anything from I want, it’s a better Operation Overdrive Megazord.
I would LOVEA Power Rangers shattered grid series once this hiatus is over.
I would just like them to take inspiration from the comics. There’s a lot of MMPR there but they keep it fresh and the story moving forward.
I would love to see a hasbro crossover. With mlp power rangers and transformers

Not sure how much a MMPR reboot would feel the same. Considering we've lost folks like Jason David Frank & Robert Axelrod.
What if they do what they did with RID2001 and they directly bring a previous Super Sentai to the west for a year?
I have the same issue with the pterodactyl not staying pegged in, although that one is more of a hit or miss. I have permanently decided to leave the open hands off, simply because I think the slots where you would peg in the ball joints are too small. So, I’ve just decided to leave them off. I post figures with their default hands, anyways.
the master morpher is said to be a hasbro pulse exclusive
Given what we've seen, I don't expect ANY new Power Rangers media anytime soon after Cosmic Fury.
Welp at least we still have Sentai
As long as they dont stop power rangers im happy
Tbh as much as I love the live action, an animated series be it anime or ATLA style could help save the franchise.
A Power Rangers video was quite the surprise. Or, were you talking about the Patreon shout out thing.
Would doing figures made to look like the Japanese actors be viable or a legal nightmare? Wouldn’t it be cool if we saw figures for Fiveman?
Sentai? This is Power Rangers
@@antiseize11 Yeah but imagine if they wanted to make LC but with sentai actor’s faces?
The streak continues
Is this decline a good time to whiip out a Transformers crossover toy and comic media?
I'm legally required to leave a like and a comment for something that isn't Transformers. While we're taking a break, could we get a toku video or two? I've been a very good boy, I've finished my homework and eaten all my vegetables. Can't we have some toku as a treat?
Hasbro really dropped the ball with power rangers
I saw a Lost Galaxy ranger where the chest pattern was upside down!
What you say makes a lot of sense but I very much do not want that. I don't want the brand to become entirely MMPR focused.
And thats just me being a completionist
You can have a red ranger with a huge head and tiny baby arms, mix it up😂
I get some lightning collection stuff (and been lucky enough to have no QC problems)Because I want I want PR stuff that is not MMPR
I think they should keep all the characters. No reboot
I’m surprised that you didn’t comment on the new suit for cosmic fury?
I don't look forward to 'MMPR forever' -_-
Hasbro should have focused on completing teams in the first place. Just saying
IMHO they need to take a year or two off to reorganize.
Hasbro really acting like they dont want to be a toy company right now, they only focusing on licensing, even their big ips
Like they have been going real hard with MLP G4 on China right now
Voltes V Legacy got more hype than this, and Boom Comics' reveal of The Return isn't interesting.
Also Voltes V Legacy look like they could be Toei's Future Blueprint on Adapting Super Sentai while Respecting the Source Material.
Lame toy designs kill brands.
Good Video🔥
I enjoyed it👍
I’m still trying to figure out what the three figures are in the basic figure line. (The Toku Topics RUclips Channel got me thinking about this.)
Probably Amelia, Zayto, and one of the guys. I'm gonna guess Javi.
@@FireFury190 well, I’m kind of going with the gold ranger because I think that would just make sense to complete the Rafkon Ranger trio.
I think going animated i might watch again till the endi tried watching the last few seasons just to drop it at one point it couldnt keep my attention
Very interesting video
As for some more sincere ideas on how Hasbro could course-correct while leaving the Hasbro mark on this era, having an animated Power Rangers *_spin-off_* alongside the traditional live-action tokusatsu as the "main" series could work if handled with enough care
I also think it'd be smarter for Hasbro to just bite the bullet and collaborate with Toei & Bandai for strategic partners (maybe also ask TakaraTOMY for help?) rather than trying to wholly decouple PR from its roots in Super Sentai - so long as all parties can be on the same page & pool their resources effectively, I could genuinely see that working out
Lastly, make as many of the shows available to watch in full on as many platforms as possible: streaming services like Netflix or Tubi, Nick and/or other cable fixtures, the works - maybe even PBS or local stations to throw them a bone?
Well said.
On the subject of decoupling from Sentai. I know a lot of Power Rangers fans do not care about Sentai (Heck, I've only seen Gokaiger and a third of Abaranger), but I think trying to completely divorce the franchise from its roots is a bad move.
Power Rangers can join the shared movie universe and toyline with GIJoe, MASK, Transformers, etc.
I agree imagine devastator Vs megazord
They should end the lightning line and all toy lines sents they don't know what they are doing and they already got other companies doing the toys better than them and they should sell power rangers to shout factory sents that is the kind of stuff they specialize in.
besides the helmets those suits looks god awful
animation is the worst choice for power rangers, it's tokusatsu first, second, and last. that'd be the point i hard drop my favorite western franchise lol
The need to stop puttng so much money into D&D
They're spreading the money equally, also the only money they dropped was for the movie
The arms on those Omega Rangers are too long. Their fists are lined up below the groin.
If Hasbro goes the Mighty Morphin route again I am done with PR. I have Sentai to fill the itch. I'm not a do Gen 1 ad nauseum kind of person. Mighty Morphin is my least favorite PR series.
All of these are reasons why I don’t buy Hasbro Power Rangers
