- Malpelo is a small uninhabited island in the East Pacific Ocean, located ~500 km west of the Colombian mainland. The convergence of several major currents (the cold Humboldt current and the warm North-Equatorial counter-current, and the cold cyclonic Panama current) create ideal
conditions for what we are here to see: lots of sharks.
It was a great privilege to dive here. This is a very special place that must be protected.

thank you!! this was on the Yemaya II in 2017, which had an amazing crew. That boat used to operate out of Panama but no longer works in Malpelo... I think it was sold and is now the Bahamas Master. I recently went again on the Ferox - also an awesome boat. Cheers!

i wanna go and dive in the Eastpacific. If u compare Malepelo, Galapagos and Cocos. Which is the "best"
It’s my favorite part of the world! I am planning on making a final review once I finish diving Socorro. Unfortunately I just came back from an unsuccessful trip to Socorro that ended early due to engine issues. The short answer is that it is so hard to put one as the ‘best’ since they all are amazing and each trip is different. I have been to all multiple times and the ‘best’ one keeps changing. But for me personally, I love Cocos. It is a very special place for me personally. Galapagos may be the most ‘reliably’ awesome place, though how that awesomeness unfolds is different from week to week! You can’t go wrong with any of these places. Cheers!
