I just took the Excel certification yesterday- I can confirm that averageif, banded rows, conditional formatting and rows to repeat were all on the test. Of course there were many other things on the test but these are the main things I'm highlighting as they might not be extremely familiar to some.

I failed my first MOS Exam Certification for Excel mostly because of not knowing what functions to add for certain questions. There were also some questions that weren't on GMetrix excel. Right now I'm trying to learn more about Excel. But thanks to this video, it will help me more!
Hi Elrodvo, Yes, if you don't know which functions to apply it can be difficult. The test doesn't always tell you what the function is called, so it's set up like a mathematical word problem. Just passed the MOS for Excel! Thank you very much for the video it helped a lot! Only things I really had trouble with were adding alternative text, adding in the total row from a table into a preexisting chart, and sorting data using multiple parameters (the tables didn’t have the drop down icon..). Hi Angela, First, select the data (column headings) you're interested in adding the filters to. Then, go to the Home Tab, Editing Group and click the Sort & Filter button, then click Filter. I just passed the exam. Jesus Christ...was hard. I never used Excel before, I started 1 month ago and decided to schedule my exam so I would get that extra pressure. I used an Udemy course, I watched your video A LOT, I practiced and practiced. I did the same for ITIL Foundations, schedule the exam, study for 1 month and a half and passed. I think that extra pressure of having the exam scheduled helps a lot. Thanks for the response.

Cheers, man. I'll prob do it at some point. First, I'll be leading a training team, but won't be the actual tutor. This is me swotting up in prep for my training. I've seen you've also done a Word one, is there anything else to prepare on? I've been told Macros, so had a brief look at that, but any other tips gratefully received.
I have one on Word and Access as well. Macros could be helpful depending on what you're doing with your team, but you won't (99% sure) see them on your MOS Excel Exam. If you take the MOS Excel Expert version, you'll probably see them. If you find something that you need help with, just put a comment on any one of my videos and If I know how to do it, I'll make a video for you on it.

Sounds good to me. Yes, there is a test for PowerPoint, but you won't see PowerPoint integrated with other tests. You can however, export your graphs and charts from Excel to Powerpoint, should you want to use them in a Presentation.
I passed my Excel Certification test today! I got a 700/1000... That was so close.. but wow! I'm moving on to Outlook now and once I finish that. I'll be done with the classroom. I got 3 college credits now.

Did they have you do the alternative text on a shape in Excel? If so you have to right-click the shape, choose size and properties, then expand the Alt Text button and fill in the Title and Description fields. Thanks for letting me know about this change!

I found out that there's actually no testing center near by where I can go and take the exam. I looked on Certiports (outdated) website and couldn't find any place near Chicago. Sometimes the colleges don't advertise that they have testing centers in them, and yes as you mentioned, Certiport isn't exactly the best at advertising local testing centers either. My suggestion for you is to get in touch with the computer departments at the community colleges in your area to see if they provide a testing center. Is this everything I need to know for the MOS-Advanced test? If not, how would you recommend studying? I found a list of tested items, so I could always simply look up videos of doing each item from that list in excel. Also, I wasn't sure if you recommended any study materials; hopefully, I can pass this thing within a few weeks. I imagine it's easier than passing the CPA exam (I hope). Hi Ratdude, This video is meant primarily for the MOS Excel Exam, not the Expert test. However, the concepts covered in this video can help you out for the advanced test. As far as study material, GMetrix software is pretty good if you don't mind spending $40-$120 for an access code. Passing the advanced exam should be significantly easier than a CPA exam. Hey, Congrats on passing the exam! This tutorial is just meant to cover some of the basics that you'll see on the exam. My Excel Playlist covers many of the other concepts you probably saw on the test. It's a pretty big test and they update it regularly, so I'll likely just keep release videos from what my students see on the exam as they take it. Have a good one!
I passed the Expert exam today. That was really, really difficult. Only 50 minute to figure out a lot of things in a rush. It was my first try. I bought the gmetrix practice tests for $40 prior to taking the actual exam, and it did a poor job of covering what I needed to know for the exam (it was more like 40 to 60% of the material). There were only 2 practice exams, and that was it??? If it was more in depth, I would have done better, but it was just a poor overall job by the company. Oh, well.
The problem is that as new versions of the MOS Exam come out, sometimes GMetrix lags on getting all of the new material on their software. Most of the time they will have enough to get you by. I've found that GMetrix does great for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint basic MOS tests. Not as much on the Excel (Advanced), Access, and Outlook tests. Luckily, it was enough to get you through the Exam. Great job passing the test!

Can you do 1 on Excel language by the Certipoint Excel Examn, I botched my 1st one because I spent too much time on some of the questions due to how they were worded?
Hi Christal Wings, Definitely, that's a good idea. Many students take too long on questions they do not know how to do or do not understand. My advice is to move quickly through the ones you know, then go back to the ones you don't. I recommend using GMetrix software to get used to the question style, as it's closely related to the actual test.

Hi Willie, I am glad these videos have been helpful for you. My recommendation on the exam is to know multiple ways to complete various tasks and avoid clicking too much. Is the MOS Test multiple choice? or is it hands on like you are showing in the video? I asked the department head of STEM division who is supposed to be in charge of all of this at my college, but im not too sure she really knows. She told me it will be multiple choice but I don't see how that really makes sense.
Hi Rachel, The test is broken into 4-7 projects. Each project contains about 5 tasks. You complete the tasks using Excel, so it's very much hands on. The test does not contain any multiple choice questioning. Let me know if you have any other questions while preparing for your exam.

As for your questions, either version is fine, you'll get the cert either way. As of now I'm MOS certified in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. I haven't earned my expert or master certifications due to lack of time lately. As far as what you should be, it depends on your situation. If you're trying to prove to an employer that you can use Excel, just get the Excel MOS. If your employer requires heavy Excel skills, get the Master. If your employer or potential employer requires all MS Office skills, then I recommend going for MOS is everything (like me) or going the extra step for MOS Master. Office 2019 will be coming out very soon. The MOS for 2019 probably won't be released until sometime in 2019. It's probably not a bad idea to wait until the later version, but having multiple versions is never a bad thing assuming you can keep training costs low. I hope this helps you out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Jules, As far as training software, I would recommend GMetrix. It cost's $75 and you can download it Online. The code will give you access to train in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. As a secondary measure, take a look at my Excel playlist below, as most of what I cover is on the MOS Excel Exam. As for taking the exam, I took the Certiport MOS Exam. Hey Taurean, Unfortunately, I don't have access to a Mac with Windows 2016 at this time. Luckily, you're right, most of the info is exactly the same. If you're preparing for an MOS Exam, your best bet is to use a Windows PC and look for differences.

Hi Robin, I earned my Outlook MOS too long ago to remember exactly what was on the test, and haven't proctored an Outlook exam in a while. I remember the test being more difficult than most other MOS exams. I'll work on getting a certification video up soon, but I'll need to take or proctor an exam to do that. The question to use light green fill and dark green text on the avgs above avg. I understand that you use conditional formatting, but I didn't under what, there were avgs, but nothing stated if it was above or below avg, it didn't ask greater than or equal to, do you have advice on how to approach this
Hi Christal Wings, It probably was looking for the average of the range that the cell was next to. You're correct to use conditional formatting based off of the question, but you need to figure out where to pull the data from for the conditional formatting. I am not sure how to advise beyond this without seeing the actual question, but I hope this points you in the right direction.

Hi Pamela, Sure, your approach will depend on how much money you'd like to spend. If you want to complete it quickly, I recommend downloading a program called GMetrix and purchasing a code for $75. The code will give you access to Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint practice tests geared towards MOS Exams. If you don't want to spend any money, lots of great options are available. I'd recommend watching RUclips videos geared towards MOS Exams and following along, or figuring out how to do the concepts on the videos on your own computer at the same time. The videos that I make on my channel are geared towards the MOS Exam, as my students take the test each semester. I'll put a link to the playlists for each software below. Finally, the test is 50 minutes long, so be prepared to move fast on it. Skip any questions that you do not know, then go back to them at the end. Sometimes if you spend too long on any question, it will force you to rush throughout the rest of the test. I hope these tips help. Fight on! Of course. So for the MOS Certification, two types of exams exist for Word and Excel. MOS and Word Expert. It looks as though your employer wants you to take the expert exam. I would definitely recommend purchasing a GMetrix code, as it has tests geared specifically to the Expert exam as well as the MOS Exam. Good luck on your tests, and let me know how you do!

Hi Brian, As far as I know, Certiport testing centers should offer you to take the test whenever you'd like by appointment. The cost of a retake is the same as the initial exam as far as I know.
It's $20 or so to retake it. But with one caveat, you have to make the decision before you take the 1st exam. So, it's a gamble. Consider it as insurance.
yo thanks for the vid. I watched this video 2 hours before before the exam and managed to somehow pass the exam. Bare in mind that all I did was I watched this video and one other video and I didn't practise at all for this exam.

Hi On the Microsoft website, I can see 2 exams: Microsoft Excel Expert and Microsoft Excel. What is the difference between the two exams. And does this video address both?
Hi Soham, This video covers some material that I saw on the MOS Exam, not the MOS Expert Exam. The Expert exam covers more difficult concepts live Pivot Tables and Nested Functions. I'd recommend practicing for the Standard MOS using my Excel 2016 playlist. The MOS Expert exam can be practiced using GMetrix Skills Management System. It costs money, but the training is good, worth it in my opinion. I hope this helps.

Hi Cheryl, The MOS Exams do not contain any multiple choice questions. Each question is phrased as a task that needs to be completed. As long as you complete the task, you will earn credit for that question. I hope this helps, have a nice day.

I just took the Excel certification yesterday- I can confirm that averageif, banded rows, conditional formatting and rows to repeat were all on the test. Of course there were many other things on the test but these are the main things I'm highlighting as they might not be extremely familiar to some.

I failed my first MOS Exam Certification for Excel mostly because of not knowing what functions to add for certain questions. There were also some questions that weren't on GMetrix excel. Right now I'm trying to learn more about Excel. But thanks to this video, it will help me more!

Yes, if you don't know which functions to apply it can be difficult. The test doesn't always tell you what the function is called, so it's set up like a mathematical word problem. Just passed the MOS for Excel! Thank you very much for the video it helped a lot! Only things I really had trouble with were adding alternative text, adding in the total row from a table into a preexisting chart, and sorting data using multiple parameters (the tables didn’t have the drop down icon..). First, select the data (column headings) you're interested in adding the filters to. Then, go to the Home Tab, Editing Group and click the Sort & Filter button, then click Filter. This will allow you to sort and filter based off text or number filters. Check out this video for more information on tables and filtering:

I just passed the exam. Jesus Christ...was hard. I never used Excel before, I started 1 month ago and decided to schedule my exam so I would get that extra pressure. I used an Udemy course, I watched your video A LOT, I practiced and practiced. I did the same for ITIL Foundations, schedule the exam, study for 1 month and a half and passed. I think that extra pressure of having the exam scheduled helps a lot. Thanks for the response.

Cheers, man. I'll prob do it at some point. First, I'll be leading a training team, but won't be the actual tutor. This is me swotting up in prep for my training.
I've seen you've also done a Word one, is there anything else to prepare on? I've been told Macros, so had a brief look at that, but any other tips gratefully received.
I have one on Word and Access as well. Macros could be helpful depending on what you're doing with your team, but you won't (99% sure) see them on your MOS Excel Exam. If you take the MOS Excel Expert version, you'll probably see them. If you find something that you need help with, just put a comment on any one of my videos and If I know how to do it, I'll make a video for you on it.
I'll try get a heads-up from a colleague who is ahead on the course. Appreciate the offer of taking a request. I'll see what comes up and let you know. Cheers.
PS. Straight off - Doesn't some kind of Powerpoint / Presentation stuff come in to it?
Sounds good to me. Yes, there is a test for PowerPoint, but you won't see PowerPoint integrated with other tests. You can however, export your graphs and charts from Excel to Powerpoint, should you want to use them in a Presentation.
I passed my Excel Certification test today! I got a 700/1000... That was so close.. but wow! I'm moving on to Outlook now and once I finish that. I'll be done with the classroom. I got 3 college credits now.

Did they have you do the alternative text on a shape in Excel? If so you have to right-click the shape, choose size and properties, then expand the Alt Text button and fill in the Title and Description fields. Thanks for letting me know about this change!

I found out that there's actually no testing center near by where I can go and take the exam. I looked on Certiports (outdated) website and couldn't find any place near Chicago. This sucksss

Sometimes the colleges don't advertise that they have testing centers in them, and yes as you mentioned, Certiport isn't exactly the best at advertising local testing centers either. My suggestion for you is to get in touch with the computer departments at the community colleges in your area to see if they provide a testing center. Is this everything I need to know for the MOS-Advanced test? If not, how would you recommend studying? I found a list of tested items, so I could always simply look up videos of doing each item from that list in excel. Also, I wasn't sure if you recommended any study materials; hopefully, I can pass this thing within a few weeks. I imagine it's easier than passing the CPA exam (I hope). This video is meant primarily for the MOS Excel Exam, not the Expert test. However, the concepts covered in this video can help you out for the advanced test. As far as study material, GMetrix software is pretty good if you don't mind spending $40-$120 for an access code. Passing the advanced exam should be significantly easier than a CPA exam. Congrats on passing the exam! This tutorial is just meant to cover some of the basics that you'll see on the exam. My Excel Playlist covers many of the other concepts you probably saw on the test. It's a pretty big test and they update it regularly, so I'll likely just keep release videos from what my students see on the exam as they take it. Have a good one!
I passed the Expert exam today. That was really, really difficult. Only 50 minute to figure out a lot of things in a rush. It was my first try. I bought the gmetrix practice tests for $40 prior to taking the actual exam, and it did a poor job of covering what I needed to know for the exam (it was more like 40 to 60% of the material). There were only 2 practice exams, and that was it??? If it was more in depth, I would have done better, but it was just a poor overall job by the company. Oh, well.
The problem is that as new versions of the MOS Exam come out, sometimes GMetrix lags on getting all of the new material on their software. Most of the time they will have enough to get you by. I've found that GMetrix does great for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint basic MOS tests. Not as much on the Excel (Advanced), Access, and Outlook tests. Luckily, it was enough to get you through the Exam. Great job passing the test!

Can you do 1 on Excel language by the Certipoint Excel Examn, I botched my 1st one because I spent too much time on some of the questions due to how they were worded?

Definitely, that's a good idea. Many students take too long on questions they do not know how to do or do not understand. My advice is to move quickly through the ones you know, then go back to the ones you don't. I recommend using GMetrix software to get used to the question style, as it's closely related to the actual test.

Is the MOS Test multiple choice? or is it hands on like you are showing in the video? I asked the department head of STEM division who is supposed to be in charge of all of this at my college, but im not too sure she really knows. She told me it will be multiple choice but I don't see how that really makes sense.
Hi Rachel,
The test is broken into 4-7 projects. Each project contains about 5 tasks. You complete the tasks using Excel, so it's very much hands on. The test does not contain any multiple choice questioning. Let me know if you have any other questions while preparing for your exam.

I want to take the MOS exam but not really sure if I should take the 727 or 728.. Suggestions? Also, just out of curiosity, are you an MOS, MOS Expert, or MOS Master? In your opinion, do you think it's "worth it" to be certified as a Master as opposed to the first two? Isn't it about time for Office 2019 to come out? As for your questions, either version is fine, you'll get the cert either way. As of now I'm MOS certified in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. I haven't earned my expert or master certifications due to lack of time lately.
As far as what you should be, it depends on your situation. If you're trying to prove to an employer that you can use Excel, just get the Excel MOS. If your employer requires heavy Excel skills, get the Master. If your employer or potential employer requires all MS Office skills, then I recommend going for MOS is everything (like me) or going the extra step for MOS Master.
Office 2019 will be coming out very soon. The MOS for 2019 probably won't be released until sometime in 2019. It's probably not a bad idea to wait until the later version, but having multiple versions is never a bad thing assuming you can keep training costs low. I hope this helps you out. Quick question: What is the best ( or a few of the better) online training courses I should look at to get a firm understanding of Microsoft Excel and ultimately pass the exam. I know Unitek is one and Certiport is another. What did you take?

As far as training software, I would recommend GMetrix. It cost's $75 and you can download it Online. The code will give you access to train in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. As a secondary measure, take a look at my Excel playlist below, as most of what I cover is on the MOS Excel Exam.
As for taking the exam, I took the Certiport MOS Exam. That is the official exam endorsed by Microsoft. I hope this helps:

your videos are very detailed. however i have a mac and i was wondering if you could do a video just like this one but for mac format. ive noticed there isnt much difference between the two but. macs dont have file tab....

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a Mac with Windows 2016 at this time. Luckily, you're right, most of the info is exactly the same. If you're preparing for an MOS Exam, your best bet is to use a Windows PC and look for differences.

I earned my Outlook MOS too long ago to remember exactly what was on the test, and haven't proctored an Outlook exam in a while. I remember the test being more difficult than most other MOS exams. I'll work on getting a certification video up soon, but I'll need to take or proctor an exam to do that. I'll work on it and you should see it on my channel in the future. Great suggestion! The question to use light green fill and dark green text on the avgs above avg. I understand that you use conditional formatting, but I didn't under what, there were avgs, but nothing stated if it was above or below avg, it didn't ask greater than or equal to, do you have advice on how to approach this

It probably was looking for the average of the range that the cell was next to. You're correct to use conditional formatting based off of the question, but you need to figure out where to pull the data from for the conditional formatting. I am not sure how to advise beyond this without seeing the actual question, but I hope this points you in the right direction.

I used GMetrix testing software to prepare for the Expert exams and they worked for me. So take a look at their software and hopefully that will help you prepare as well.

Sure, your approach will depend on how much money you'd like to spend. If you want to complete it quickly, I recommend downloading a program called GMetrix and purchasing a code for $75. The code will give you access to Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint practice tests geared towards MOS Exams.
If you don't want to spend any money, lots of great options are available. I'd recommend watching RUclips videos geared towards MOS Exams and following along, or figuring out how to do the concepts on the videos on your own computer at the same time. The videos that I make on my channel are geared towards the MOS Exam, as my students take the test each semester. I'll put a link to the playlists for each software below.
Finally, the test is 50 minutes long, so be prepared to move fast on it. Skip any questions that you do not know, then go back to them at the end. Sometimes if you spend too long on any question, it will force you to rush throughout the rest of the test. I hope these tips help. Fight on!

Of course. So for the MOS Certification, two types of exams exist for Word and Excel. MOS and Word Expert. It looks as though your employer wants you to take the expert exam. I would definitely recommend purchasing a GMetrix code, as it has tests geared specifically to the Expert exam as well as the MOS Exam. Good luck on your tests, and let me know how you do!

As far as I know, Certiport testing centers should offer you to take the test whenever you'd like by appointment. The cost of a retake is the same as the initial exam as far as I know.
It's $20 or so to retake it. But with one caveat, you have to make the decision before you take the 1st exam. So, it's a gamble. Consider it as insurance.

On the Microsoft website, I can see 2 exams: Microsoft Excel Expert and Microsoft Excel. What is the difference between the two exams. And does this video address both?

This video covers some material that I saw on the MOS Exam, not the MOS Expert Exam. The Expert exam covers more difficult concepts live Pivot Tables and Nested Functions. I'd recommend practicing for the Standard MOS using my Excel 2016 playlist. The MOS Expert exam can be practiced using GMetrix Skills Management System. It costs money, but the training is good, worth it in my opinion. I hope this helps.

The MOS Exams do not contain any multiple choice questions. Each question is phrased as a task that needs to be completed. As long as you complete the task, you will earn credit for that question. I hope this helps, have a nice day.
