The intuition you had about the sample start-velocity relationship and how it mimics the real organic behavior of the percussive sounds it's brilliant! i have to confess that after watching your video where you talk about the scrub and the hi hat technique, even if you didn't show the settings in sampler i've been able to perfectly recreate it by logic and doing some sort of "intuitive reversed engineering" looking at all the possible features in sampler and understanding how to make them interact with each other. Moreover i added another feature mapping the release and the decay with another device's parameters (i don't remember what it is at the moment, i should open the project to see) to get more articulation in a way that you can mimic the typical choke behavior of the hat but just if you want and when you want, based on how you press the controller button or how you program the midi notes on the piano roll manually. It was really fun!
I appreciate this message so much! The number one thing i'm hoping to inspire is this type of exploration - the fact that you were able to intuitively recreate, and add on to the functionality of the concept is exactly what I want to see more of in the production community! People getting hands on to make good music from the ground up.
@@ChuckSutton Hi Chuck! Glad you replied! Rereading my comment I noticed that I described the function I added to your dynamic hat simply as "typical choke behavior" but in reality it is not just that. My idea started precisely from the fact that when I finished replicating your technique I realized that it was not possible to make the hits with low velocity have a long release (as is also possible to do with a real hi hat if you think about it) because they start from the tail of the sample. So, to do some experiment, first of all I thought of loading a sample of a nice long LONG hihat, then fiddling with the sampler ADSR to find the right proportions between the parameters to obtain the most realistic and organic effect possible and mapping the sampler parameters with a midi envelope, I managed (although not exactly perfectly, I have to study the interactions a little more deeply) to add more behaviors of a real hihat that were missing in your technique. 🤝
@@mttlsa686 If you're ever inspired to make a video I highly encourage it, this is really interesting stuff! I'm excited for the snowball effect of what stuff like this can turn into, feels like a bunch of scientists sharing musical papers
@@ChuckSutton very creative bro, but we could do nothing if it wasn’t God’s will that each and every one of us would exist and live. And us humans know this universe has many laws, which makes everything possible, and God is the perfect being that made everything. We humans were made to be His images, but we all fell short of His glory. The result is death. If we were obedient to God’s perfect laws, we would live on forever, but none of us did. That is why, it is written in the Bible, for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have eternal life. God loved us so much, that He did not leave us destroy ourselves, but sent His Son to be a substitute for us before Him as our representative so that if we believe in Him, and His Words, we will live forever with God, we will be renewed, transformed in His likeness. The Word of God will feed your soul, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Him. God is ready to offer you His life, and peace, which transcends all understanding, only if you believe, and love and obey Him in return. God only wants our good, so that our life would prolong forever with Him, and that we do not receive the due punishment for our imperfect life, death, separation from God forever, the author of life, and all that is good. God offers us life to the full, through Jesus Christ His Son, here in this life and in the next. And music is one of His work, so much complexity that our minds cannot comprehend, but God is willing to offers us everything, if we love Him, and also, love others like ourselves, including our enemies, because we ourselves were God’s enemies, but became His own people, His children, and His friends, as soon as we allowed Him into our hearts and minds. God’s law permits everything to exist, and He sustains them all. He will judge everything one day, but thanks to His patience, we can try to get everyone saved, through the message of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, prince of peace, King of kings and Lord of lords. God bless you Chuck, may God’s peace be with you.
The beat of history
ive never in my life gone back to the demo project after closing it just to listen and analyse it, except this one, i love this demo so much
Same exact deal for me.
I was struggling to find it yesterday lol most cookin default set ever
Same for me!!!
How do I get it back? It only played the first time I opened the trial, I can’t see to get it back
same!
Ableton couldn’t have chosen a better song to demonstrate the sonic possibility and potential of all the new features. All within such a tasteful and current sounding package.
Excellent work Mr. Sutton. Thank you for your creative ingenuity. Very inspiring project.
literally the first demo song on any software that made me do stank face
I literally accidentally clicked on this demo track while opening my ableton and sat there for about an hour listening and analyzing. man, you are a genius and a creator
That song is amazing! When I opened Live 12 for the first time I must’ve played through it a dozen times. (Pun intended)
CHUCKS BACK!!!
Hearing your song brought me back to opening up a DAW for the first time (FL 10) and hearing the demo song there. Thank you for reminding me how creative and fun making music can be ❤
Your project file made me feel insecure about my production skills 😆
What an insane song. Bravo!
Glad your name was posted in the demo song so i can find you. It's sounds like a really vibey R&B track that's radio ready. Came back to RUclips to see who you were and found that i'd already seen your Ableton One Thing video! You did an amazing job on the demo track. It's the only one so far that i've saved so that i can listen to it. And i've been using Ableton since 7.
Tons of good info here. Plus, this guy deserves to blow up. You Tube: bless him with algorithmic grace.
Thank you so much!!
@@ChuckSutton You should consider a longer version of that track. Maybe you've already done it?
Same as comment below. I've never paid any attention to an Abelton demo track in 13 years. The complexity and ideas you put into it are a true inspiration as to what the DAW can do. I had no idea some of these parameters and functions existed. Superb work and nice track.
"transform seed" had me wondering what sorta shenanigans were going on. "I paid for the whole piano roll, I'll use the whole piano roll" vibes. really cool to see what went into it
Just getting to see how this genius works is more than worth the price of the upgrade.
The whole demo is great but that flute sound is LEGENDARY. All of the textures in this song are amazing.
@@mrcs.sndrs. thank you!! i’m the most proud of that sound cause it’s less about starting with a unique sound, and more about reanimating a timbre we all know until it feels new
My man, your song is a fucking BOP WHEW!
THE BEAT OF HISTORY
Song legit slaps harder than Will Smith sir. Grateful to be introduced to your music. Keep making more music and sharing it with the world.
Totally agreed with all who love the demo song. I actually wasn't even looking at the screen when the song loaded and started playing. I stopped what I was doing and look at the screen like "Yooooooo whaattttt????!!!!". Love your sound bro!
learn a lot from this porject!
I was so amazed when i opened it for the first time
Yesss thank you for making this breakdown! Love your approach to creativity and music making, and how you share it with the rest of the music community. Patience is my fav demo project to date, hope it gets released as a song, and the Rainstorm rack blew my mind as soon as I dug into the tracks when I first opened the demo. There's a life lesson in there somewhere about not caring so much about the start/end of a sound but what happens in between. Also it was a pleasure meeting you at non plus ultra a couple weeks ago, really enjoyed your set! Looking forward to more of your tunes, tips, and tricks!
What you said about "not caring about the start/end of a sound, but what happens in between" is why i do all of this! Really happy you were able to take that away from this. And it was great meeting you as well!!
LITERALLY THOUGHT WHEN I PLAYED THE ABLETON DEMO "oh wow this like some chuck sutton type shit" GOOD STUFF MAN LOVED LOVED LOVED IT
bruh when i played the track first loading up 12 i was blown away
Congrats Chuck!! I want to get to this level so that a company let me do a demo project for them, that would be awesome!! So much love and admiration for you 🖤🫶🏻🫂
i opened 12 and i was like "wait is that chuck sutton :o" and it was chuck sutton
I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck at a show a couple years back and he was incredibly kind. I'm so happy to see his success!
Mr. Chuck your song was quite refreshing! Great work!
love ur work, I knew a genius was behind this project!
Def enjoyed the demo. U hard
My guy you a genius at this, keep going!!!❤💯🔥👊
i was losing it when i heard your vocals and was like omg its chuck!!!
Amazing work Chuck!🙌
Yeah, I wrote possibly one of the greatest songs after opening your demo . Great Demo
Hey Chuck, I loved discovering that project. What the heck have you done on the Rainstorm track bro that is absolute insaneness! haha
When i first open FL Studio in my life (the last year) was because i instaled it on my computer so my nephew could used it.He was producing in that DAW.
My first impression was "Wow!!...it has a Demo Song!!!" (Very cool though!).
My second impression was "What a good colours has this daw!".
Now in see Ableton working on that in this 12.1 version, an aldo, a full beautiful and entertaining song full of his instruments and effects.
BRAVO ABLETON!!!!👏👏👏, you amazed me,and made me very happy!!.
Thank you Chuk, for this video and that song!!!❤❤.Greetings from Argentina!!!👋☺️
By far the best demo song of any software I've owned. And incredible contributions to the stock patches!! Thank you for breaking these down and doing all that you do Chuck.
NO WAY IT WAS YOUR SONG, wow. I literally spent an hour looking through the project file, and even saved the strum o matic to my files I loved it so much
The fact that you created this over a weekend....WHAT lmfao. This was such a thoughtful and creative way to approach it. I'm blown away! Also, I was today years old when I learned that round robin exists in Sampler :D
Best demo track ever!!!!!
when I open your project I was shocked, the vibe and atmosphere, that really remind me why I start making music 10 years ago lol. This is a masterpiece of sound design. thank you!
fall in love with the song already
lets go chuck!!
My man Chuck still absolutely killing the game
Bro BEEN a genius from day
When I heard the song on Ableton I thought it might be by Jacob Collier, which I mean as a super huge compliment. I'm happy to see that I was wrong and def subbing to the channel! Keep up the great work and blessings!
already said this on IG but best demo project i’ve ever seen and an incredible song in its own right. really appreciate you further breaking this down!
it's fire!!!
Congratulations dude.
seeing akira complex officially partially embodied in ableton makes me so happy, this track is absolutely incredible
Loved the breakdown mate, great vid
you are a gift to the world
Would be fun for the artists that didn't have their songs selected make their own videos like "this was a demo song you never heard". Bet there are loads of awesome producers out there :)
Perfect demo, thanks!
Amazing work~
Holy I thought I recognized those vocals from somewhere… heard you from All or Nothing orginally and I’m glad to hear more from you!
DUDE I WAS ASKING MYSELF YOUR A LEGEND
Man I bounced the mp3 and listen to it my car. Probably the first .. Demo ive ever bounced and listened to in my car lol
I really have been listening to this demo song for DAYS! It has been so helpful and its a JAM!!!

the vacuuum flute sounds amazing!
i love this demo song.. reminds me of tennyson
You're infectious, what a genius
I literally have my jaw dropped, when I hear your demo, that was so clean and melodic
Crazy demo, crazy breakdown, energetic teacher, and one of my favorite artists. Freely available. Epic.
Loved the video! I’m still on ableton 10 😂.. But after hearing that flute patch you made I’m sold. 🐐 🙏🔥 Loved the track this was very inspiring and informative. and congrats!! *subbed
Rest in peace Akira Complex
You are a beast!! Well done.
So sick man
Not gonna lie in the past 10 years of trying and downloading all sorts of DAWs and their versions, I've never actually saved the default project cause I was so afraid of losing it, amazing stuff man thanks a lot for making this!!
so glad i watched this. not only did you point out some of the sound design i was curious about (recording the midi generator movements never would have crossed my mind), but your enthusiasm and passion as you talked about the project was incredible
thanks for the inspiration!
all of these presets are genuinely super impressive. especially the rainfall one. I hope to use the bass preset you made in one of my future projects!!!
Best DAW demo song evernme thinks!
Bruh..!! no words,,- i had to go searchin' as soon as the demo came up.. like , who da hell?>>=insane sound design, and more so,, amazing song overall sir,, the instant feels start with strum-o-matic and then the vocals wash over -- the shards of glass effect with the midi is nothin' less that genius-, i can go on, but, -i'm sure you're gettin' from ableton heads everywhere,, tight work, boss-,, i'm a fan.. 👊🏽
i adored akira complexes stuff for years, but only found out they passed away now... rest in peace
Awesome job mate! Learned a lot from your track :)
Song is AWESOME... Really!
Chuck!! The demo song is absolutely incredible, and so inspiring. Thanks for all you create!
That demo is 🤌🏾🔥🔥 and unexpected. I was expecting to hear dance music 🤣🤣.
Song is amazing
the flute was the sound that instantly flashed me when i opened 12 for first time :) well done
Even though I've been on ableton since 9, this demo track gave me the same feeling of wonder I had when I first opened ableton
That demo is Wild! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Amazing. Thanks so much for your contribution and sharing this with the Ableton community.
Great demo song! Feel is right.
Holy … what an inspiration!
Goat demo project !!!!!
🔥🔥Ohh man, that track really nails it, and I remember thinking to myself that this was the first time I felt the demo track was banging! I kept listening to it while deconstructing the project, and I never do that! 👏
Bro you're such a genius, I was literally finding you everywhere as soon as I heard the demo track. It blew my mind literally! Then you randomly showed up on my Instagram and now on RUclips (Never have been more thankful to the mind reading algorithm). Thanks for this breakdown, really love the sounds, Subscribed!
frist of all, i love your song. i jammed out so hard with it for hours when i first got live 12 in session view. second, this video might have been the most interesting ableton showcase i have ever seen. your patches are amazing, thank you for sharing them. this is really mind blowing.
@@sebastianvega4576 thank you so much!! it truly means a lot 🙌🏽

It’s about time this vid came out. That track was flawless.
COMPLETE beginner here, this demo is a really great introduction to a DAW and is just a downright great song. Thanks so much for it and for your advice!
And shoutout to your nephew. He is wise.
Good work Chuck! Love this!
