    Would be interested to know what explains the difference between the two versions. Maybe a manufacturing defect happening at a batch level? An actual update to design/materials choices/build processes by Wilson? Are we to consider this a v2.0 Omega? Defects happen...updates happen, not a big deal if either of those were the case. In any event, the two you show in this video are clearly different footballs, whether intentionally or by accident. I would be interested in trying it and comparing against my Dimes and Vapor Elites...but would like to know if I'd be getting the "premium" sample you show here, or the "sub-par" variety you reviewed previously.

      It’s really hard for me to say, but there is definitely a difference. I’ve been brushing this one for a while now and it feels good. It’s sticky, it’s soft ish and it’s just going to get better. I plan on doing a comparison video to some of the other Wilson balls when I’ve hard a fair chance to throw this one.

    Glad to see that you got their attention despite not having a ton of subs. Big Game USA, Wilson's main competitor, makes the Adidas Dime and Nike Vapor balls. They also offer a darker/softer leather as an option on one of their "Team Issue" house balls. Like the Wilson, it is designed as a shortcut to prevent extensive break in. I have one and I don't like it as much as the traditional finish after shaving cream and mudding.
    My GST Prime is still one of my favorite balls. But no question that the pebbling is flattened in a huge spot on the ball where there is the giant Wilson W logo. This is well documented in online reviews. But I knew it was for real when I handed the ball to a friend. Knowing nothing about the online reviews, first thing he said is "WTF is with this giant slick logo?"

      I love my Prime. I have 2 GSTs, both great, F2000s are so great as well. The second Omega like I said is really a nice feeling ball, and I understand who it's meant for, and the whole thing makes sense to me.

    I also have both of these aswell. The darker leather, I see what your saying from what wilson said, to replicate the mudded footballs. Maybe over time, it might break in more on its own, but I am still not a fan of it. Extremely slippery, maybe over time, the football might become softer, but brushing still does nothing to it. The red leather one I have is way better. The leather kind of has a grip to it, rather than a squeek when you slide your finger across. The red one is on competiton with other big game balls, however, is still different with this new technology and some may like or not like. The ball isnt as long as some of my other balls, shaped more round, which does make it spin easier, but I dont know if making it more round necessarily makes it better. Yes, because its round , its easier to throw spirals. But some of the longer footballs like the gst prime fly throw the air better because the longer and pointier design.My conclusion, I am not a fan of the dark leather, but I do like my red leather just as much as my gst prime and vapor elite.

    How do you feel the "playoff" leather of the Adidas Dime compares to the "rapid break-in" leather of the Omega? Similar?

    • @CBPJoey
      @CBPJoey  Месяц назад +1

      Playoff is better out of the box for sure. Is it better after break-in? TBD. Feels very nice to throw though.

      I had a look at the website but they don’t really look like they’re game-quality balls like the ones I’ve been looking at. If they send one over though, I’d give it an honest look for sure!

    It was either this or the f2000 but I picked up the 2000 off your other review and man does it look nice. The leather feels thicker than the gst but what really sets it apart for me is the double stripes tbh. The f2000 just looks so pretty when its in the air because of those double stripes.

    Is the ball you received the same leather type as the one you bought originally? On the Wilson website if you customize the ball there are three leather options. I’m just wondering because the appearance of the leather seems drastically different lol

    • @CBPJoey
      @CBPJoey  Месяц назад +1

      The second ball feels and looks different. That said, the leather is from the same factory (Horween) and received the same treatment. I don’t have an explanation for the difference in the look and feel.

      Did you break in the football? I understand the Omega is supposed to require "less break in" effort, but I can't imagine these balls landing at major D1 colleges, and not getting a good bit of break-in treatment.
      ...or is your dislike of the ball; the shape, weight, balance and/or spin?

    • @CBPJoey
      @CBPJoey  Месяц назад

      @@craigjohnchronicles2504 The feel of the ball in terms of weight/spin is nice
      my issue with the original ball was that the leather was treated in a way that made it slick. I couldn't get rid of the slick feeling no matter what I tried - tack bar, brush, etc - nothing did the trick.
      The new ball, pictured in the video, is breaking in quite a bit better. It's much more friendly in terms of grip and overall feel.
      By the way, Wilson only suggests brushing this ball, so that's what I've done in the interest of doing things by the book to try and get the most out of the ball.

      @@CBPJoey - Thanks for the note. I got much of that from your video. I have a GST, I'm going to be breaking in next week - and I'd love to get my hands on an Omega to compare how it feels to a broken in GST.
      But I was wondering if David could expand on his comment of not wanting to pick it up again.
      ...wonder how different the feel of an "infected?" Omega ball would feel if it went through the break in process - even knowing Wilson suggests it's not required.

      Great question. Honestly, Wilson has been really helpful in all my interactions, so if you're in the US I'd call them and refer them to this (or my other) video and just say that you want a ball that looks like the second one. Seems fair to me.

    The end of this video nails it. Of course the second ball you got evinced good quality control: it was hand-selected by a Wilson executive who was doing damage control after their vendor shipped you a turd!
    Let's talk about the elephant in the room: poor quality control at Wilson. There is so much evidence out there. One needs to look no further than photos submitted with the reviews on Wilson's own website of balls that never should have made it out of the factory. Some of the Wilson balls are so bad that it's easy to see why people who buy them suspect they received counterfeit items.
    Wilson, if you are reading this, we appreciate the fact that your products are made by hard working Americans. Now employ some of them for quality control (or if you are doing this, actually empower them to prevent these lemons from getting out the door of the factory). Either that, or give me an increased price "hand select" option, where I can pay an additional fee to have one of your supervisors pick out a ball for me.
    My GST Prime was stitched perfectly. It's one of my favorite balls, despite the pebbling being slick on the giant W logos right out of the box. But I can only read so many reviews features pictures of bad balls before i get leery of buying another one.

    • @CBPJoey
      @CBPJoey  Месяц назад

      I really don't think they're crate digging, but I do think that the second ball is a lot more premium, and I - at least for now - attribute it entirely to the darkening treatment. I'm brushing this ball every day and it's getting nicer and nicer to hold, which just plain didn't happen on the original Omega I received. My thesis is that at some point the treatment was changed - the tradeoff was that the ball doesn't come quite as dark, but does come feeling (and throwing, ultimately) better after a short break-in.

    • @CBPJoey
      @CBPJoey  Месяц назад

      I don’t think so, only because on their website’s comment section there are others who also received a very high quality ball. Who knows, could have just been some leather treating issues or something.
