- WipeOut Omega Collection Review- I get sent games every damn day, and if you had asked me 2 days ago if I would be doing a review on WipeOut Omega Collection, I'd have laughed. No way.
But, my god. This game. This...game. Please, buy it and play it. It's amazing.
If you'd like to win a copy of it, just like the video and leave a comment on what appeals to you most about WipeOut. I'll choose the best response after I get back from E3 and mail you a copy of the game :)

Thanks for watching everyone.
Skill Up What I like about the Wipeout series are the series' aesthetics and the complexity of piloting a super fast hovercraft.
Skill Up You know Rez was released on sega dreamcast first, also great review.
Wait, so I have to pick the ONE thing I like most about the WipEout series? That's hard! Ok, fine. The gameplay is sublime, and the music fits perfectly, but, oddly, my favorite part about WipEout is the world building and lore.
Seriously, if you've never done so, dig into the extensive lore of this game! Unlike most other future racers, it doesn't go "Poof! It's the year 20XX and _____ racing is the world's most popular sport!". No. It gives reasons, and tells how Anti-Gravity technology was invented, how the sport evolved, team origins, etc. It's fascinating stuff, and really helps the game world feel "lived in" in a way that many games do not, ESPECIALLY in future racing games! It's future history at its absolute best.
The best story in the world wouldn't mean anything if the game played like rubbish, but thankfully, there's nothing to worry about there.
Also, kudos for mentioning Rez. I've made the same gameplay to music comparison, myself.
It's not so much what I like from the game itself... more so the memories I have from playing the originals on the PS as it was one of the games that came with it. As a kid I used to draw and design my own ships whenever I wasn't playing and that for holds dear. So for me... this game... this remaster would be a pure experience of nostalgia.
Skill Up Honestly, my favorite thing about the WipeOut series is how it takes everything it has, from sense of speed, handling, music, and track design and world building and puts it all together to make something so enjoyable to play and get to understand.
Wipeout has represented racing games for years without thanks, and without the grand praise that the Gran Turismos and Forzas seem to receive every year. That and that Wipeout is the first ever game series to have licensed music, mixed by DJs specifically for the games. I spent so many hours on Wip3out back on the playstation 1, and HD just reminded me that despite all the other racing games out there, Wipeout will forever stand the test of time.
Matt Thompson my original copy of wipeout retired in one of my car cd wallets back in the day, as you could play the music straight off it on a standard CD player. I loved the music so much even after I’d played the game to death and a ps2 had come along.
What I like the most about Wipeout? There are no blue shells. SUCK ON THAT, MARIO
TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!
QUAKE!
QUAKE!
QUAKE!
The blue shell that kills everyone.
wipEout fusion for ps2 had that blue shell bs but damn each ship had their own ultimate weapon
ForbiddenSusp3ct I like the fact that it's 3 in 1, HD and apparently if you are in the US and didn't get to pre order, you can still receive the Van Uber. I plan on getting this today.
Thing I like about it is the speed and high skill needed to be good at it. At the lower speeds it's fairly manageable, but at the highest speeds you really need to know your racing lines and track layout. And once it all clicks you're just ripping around every right turn like some sort of supercomputer. Especially in zone mode!
Wipeout literally saved me as a gamer. After seeing it on the GameMaster TV show, Wipeout was the reason I decided to buy the then new kid on the block PlayStation rather than the Sega Saturn I had been saving my college allowance for. I shudder to think how different things could be now if it wasn't for Wipeout =D
HAHAHA I was too young to know and got a Sega Saturn instead lol eventually I got a N64 because it had so many good games on it. Never got a PS1. But I do have a modded PS Classic now though
Yeah, well, I went for the 32X back then. Best investment ever.
I think it's safe to say there's a lot of gamer who never touched WipeOut and ended up turning out fine. Don't worry.
I mean, WipEout and WipEout 2097 came out on Saturn. but they looked like arse on it.
Wait Gamesmaster was shown in the U.S too?
I think the think I loved the most about WipEout was the semi-realistic presentation of it all. The way you've got all these teams, with their own distinct logos on their ships, ads plastered all over the tracks and on billboards surrounding them...
the artwork of The Designers Republic really brought this world to life
What I love about the wipeout series, is doing time trials or speedlaps for hours, trying to squeeze in every tiny little detail to gain only tenths of seconds at such heigh speeds. Every perfect lap feels so satisfying, yet I would find another little detail to make the laptimes just that little faster, and im off to time trialing again. getting those fine details perfect on such unbelievably heigh speeds, with this controll set, feels so awasome and satisfying. Then racing those tracks in multiplayer or something and putting that all to some more competative practice, makes for awasome racing and more satisfaction when you hit that little detail just right to pass your opponant.
Awesome review! I started playing WipEout on the PSOne, and have played them all until today. I made friends for life playing WipEout though the WipEoutZone forum, and have attended many WipEout European Conventions held by the community.
This game has defined my gaming life since its beginning, from its crazy soundtrack to its design, WipEout IS the quintessential gaming experience for me. I'm happy to see it coming back, and hope this collection is successful enough to show Sony we can have WipEout 4 on PS4, with VR cockpit view? :)
Unfortunately Studio Liverpool is no more, it was a huge loss for long-time fans like me. I've been following projects from ex-Studio Liverpool devs like Formula Fusion, which recently launched on Steam.
In any case, hope Sony let's someone else can pick up the mantle and develop a new WipEout game to continue this incredible franchise. A Playstation platform doesn't feel the right without it's own original WipEout title :)
SuperAverageGaming Wipeout with VR?
Think twice. You would puke after 2 barrelrolls xD
Hey man, how did you feel about wipeout 3? It's my personal fav and no other wipeout comes close to the feel of the physics or the sound of its music. Even the brilliance of it's graphic design was my favorite in the whole series, yet no one ever talks about it. Am I the only one that ever liked it?
@@warrantyV0IDED 3 was one of the best but unplayable now on modern tvs, I've tried it's too blocky and lots of the levels are dark and hard to make out which way to go.
At its time it was as good as 2097 with more everything. Definitely one of the best racers ever but I think hd with fury pack was best racer ever and now this.
Pure and pulse on psp was great as well
@@warrantyV0IDED would absolutely love a remake of 2097 and wip3out all in one game with this graphics. It would be mind blowing on ps5
Another brilliant, well thought out video. I'm 43 soon and this game really takes me back, will definitely be picking it up. Excellent stuff!
Yeah man, I'm getting up there in age myself hate to admit. But do you remember the F-Zero franchise from Nintendo way back in the day? Haha, this game so much reminds me of games like F-Zero and StarFox!!!
Oh and remember Pilot Wings? Man Nintendo [or someone] better get on the ball and make a new modern Pilot Wings...LMAO!
Same. 31 and my first 3d gaming experience was with a spanking brand new sony PlayStation with wipeout and crash bandicoot. And I find it quite amazing how this month, both are back on PlayStation. :)
Ace-flo /Terra-wrists/skruffem/bollywood_bandit/ion_harvest
Yeah, remember when they showed it on the movie hackers, and wondering when is the game ever going to look like that?
Ok, you've just reminded me how entrancing experience with a heck of a soundtrack it was... Don't want the copy, gonna buy one myself! Thanks!
Soundtrack is top notch this time around, as per usual. Love it.
Shame it does not have Fluke Atom Bomb though! But the Prodigy ❤️
WipEout for me is just better than other racing games, more unique. It's a game series I can spend hours playing and not get bored. The weapons in the game give some of the gameplay of games like Mariokart but in a more serious racing setting, and the backstory just makes it even better. Add in the soundtrack and it creates one hell of an immersive experience. The visuals are stunning, the racing is great, the soundtrack rocks and the backstory gives it an extra dimension. It has been a sad loss to the gaming community and it's wonderful to see it re-released on PS4, which will only make the whole experience even better.
What I love most about Wipeout is that it keeps encouraging me to carry on getting better. I was about ready to give up on it due to the skill ceiling being so high, but every tenth of a second I shave off my lap times encourages me and keeps me playing.
I hope more people play this game. I really do
When PSP first came out, this was my first game, to this day, one of the best racers I've ever played
Same, was it pure or pulse
@@KMExceeder i started with pulse
@@acenightwalkee654 nice I started with pure but I like pulse better
Hey everybody, it's free with PSN+ this upcoming Wednesday August 6th
Two months later, I traded my retail version of Wipeout Omega Collection as I wasn’t patient enough to wait for the PSVR patch. Mistake. I’ve re bought it and am shocked at the incredible job the devs have done patching the full game for vr and then providing it free to anyone who has the game. Stunning game and a PSVR system seller
You should play it in VR, your pants would explode.
Does the game have a VR mode, or do you have to buy the VR version?
@@aarongreenfield9038 You just need to buy the game itself and the VR should be there. They added it in through a update.
Has someone how has wipeout PSVR and oculus rift on the Pc. Sony must be congratulated for Wipeout VR. There are very little VR Games on Oculus that can compare with Wipeout VR. After I tried it I bought PSVR only for that game
My brain imploded...I was enjoying just sitting in replays, waving at my opponents...
You can get the VR version by updating the omega collection the vr version is free!
Always liked me some fast racing games!
Thanks for your insights into wipeout.
what appeals me the most is the combination of game and soundtrack. the speed in combinatian with dnb, electronic etc. makes wipeout a very special expierience that only a few games have to offer. I'm a musician my self and during your review I sometimes thought "shut up and let me listen to that soundtrack" xD
What I like about Wipeout, is that it takes SKILL to have fast reactions and track awareness to win any race. I've always love futuristic racing games that has spectacular graphics and design.
WipEout is the best futuristic racer ever.
I grew up on games like F-Zero, I saw this was free on PSN and immediately grabbed it, just because it looked reminiscent of F-Zero, looking forward to playing it after watching this review
Buying this thanks to you and your vid :)
loved this back on ps3. looks great. absolutely stunning review matched the game perfectly.
My first introduction to the series was Wipeout Pure (PSP) and the thing I remember the most is how perfect the music blended with the sense of speed. I love the series so I'm happy to see it's well priced for the next generation. Definitely picking up a copy
I remember playing wipeout on my N64 when I was little and how thrilling it felt when I went fast. That's what I love most about these games; the sense of extreme speed. Haven't been able to get that anywhere else.
Great review btw, I was actually planning on buying the DS3 DLC, but that might have to wait lol
I loved Wipeout back in the day, I owned Wipeout 1 on both Sega Saturn and Ps1 that was amazing especially with the prodigy blasting through the speakers , and later 2097 on Ps1 (superior version) such memories
Brilliant high quality review - well done.
The reason I love the Wipeout series is pretty much everything you say in this video! You hit the nail on the head perfectly! Wipeout was for adults and F-Zero was for kids. Nothing comes close to the first time I played Wipeout 2097 and Firestarter by The Prodigy came on! The adrenaline rush was unreal! But Dammit was the original Wipeout tough particularly because you couldn't grind on barriers and clipping them stopped you dead in your tracks! Amazing game series! 👍
Ben Scott F-Zero for kids? Really? I personaly find fzero much harder. The omega Collection is my first wipeout game and yeah it is challenging but fzero is much faster and harder in higher difficulties
The friendly Muffin F-Zero X and GX on their hardest difficulty is no easy task getting 1st on every race plus 29 other racers trying to send you off course.
Saying F-ZERO is for kids is insanity. X and GX on expert and master are incredibly brutal and unforgiving. Also the speed difference is huge.
I'll probably never buy this game but this guy might be the best video game reviewer on RUclips
Well its free this august 😁
You're delusional if you believe that. ACG alone is much better
@@HugoStiglitz88 We gonna review reviewers now? Lol. I think whatever you think in terms of comparisons, SkillUp has a certain passion and delivery that is very unique; speaking for myself, it draws me in. I know that if a game has soul, SkillUp will tend to find it and shine a light on it, and that's pretty cool. And not at the expense of slating its other elements.
The futuristic setting of a game so beloved to me since the days of the original Playstation, combined with the incredible soundtrack and sense of speed is what sucked me into the original and was one of the very first console games I ever played. I have so many fond memories playing this game with my cousin when we were kids, and it was incredible to not only be playing a racing video game that was in 3D, but also the fact that it was set in this Jetsons like universe with wildly imagined vehicles of the future made this one of my favorite original Playstation games.
The developers got so many things right with the WipeOut series, and your comparison to Rez was spot on (although Rez is in an entirely different dimension in its own right). I honestly didn't even know this title was going to be remastered and released by Sony, and am delighted to see it at $35. That's proper pricing mate, and am entering this comment as part of your giveaway. Have a safe flight to LA, and even if I don't win the giveaway I'll be sure to see you online racing across world that is WIPEOUT!!!
Cheers,
-Brett
Never played the wipeout series, but I would love to try it out now.
I've never played any of the Wipeout games before, and that's strange considering I've been a Sony fanboy almost all my life.
Would love to play this game, and experience that rush you get when you speed past your opponents just when the BGM hits its stride
Definitely looks like an amazing experience!
It is :)
I'm in the same boat, I remember trying to download and play a demo of wipeout on my PS3 and it couldn't launch the game for some reason. So I have attempted to try it out. I'm willing to buy this one for sure.
There is nothing quite like wipeout. Must have wasted at least 2-3 full years of my life on these games since the original came out when I was a kid.
That is kind of odd since WipEoutHD + Fury was one of the games being offered for free on PS3 after PSN was hacked years ago.
It reminds me of my childhood. This was one of the first games I ever played, and damn I played it a lot. It would be an amazing experience to relive those moments, so I hope i win the game :p
Even at a young age of 4, WipeOut for N64 was one of my favourite games to play. At an age where I couldnt appreciate how the soundtrack and gameplay formulate into an awesome experience I still very much enjoyed it and I think that speaks volumes on how good of a game it is. I would love to win a copy and be able to experience a game from my childhood again but with the added benefit of being old enough to appreciate the game fully. Another fantastic review Skill Up, they always exude a level of quality and polish rarely found.
This is an excellent review and exceptionally, eloquently put. Well done!
Getting it for my birthday, never too old for birthday presents!
If you like WipeOut, the be sure to give Redout a try. An Italian indie game that has as much heart as it does eyeball-melting beauty. Redout is crazy and is absolutely worth the asking price of 36 U.S. dollars. Redout is a hard game as well. No item pick-ups to worry about. Just clean, fast racing.
Got Redout 2 days ago. Jesus, that game is good. The sense of speed is incredible.
And it was inspired by wipeout too
There's also BallisticNG now on Steam. It seems closer to Wipeout in spirit, though it looks crude (imho). The problem with Wipeout look alikes unfortunately is that they're just generic sci fi racers. WipeOut had a very unique style from DESIGNERS REPUBLIC. This adds a lot of personality to the game without much else in the way of characters or background story. For example the logo / teams introduction in Wip3Out is incredible and manages to give identity to the teams without anything else than the visual design.
See wip3out teams opening: ruclips.net/video/h4lFmtEBBi4/видео.html
With that said, it looks like the releases after Wip3Out essentially keep the original vision alive as they can and fill in the blanks. It looks like Designers Republic hasnt been working on WipeOut releases for a long time.
This review was beautifully done and it seemed professional. Truly Amazing
The click of the disc cover on my original PlayStation, the dimming of the lights and the turning up of the volume, the anti-grav Chemicals' fuelled adrenaline rush that followed - and now I get to do it all over again! Can't wait.
I grew up with the WipeOut series and it was always something I could come back to because of the collective experience it gave me which you described so well in your review. I've never been any good at traditional car racing games but WipeOut was an exception and I was hooked from the start, weaving those tight corners, hitting speed pads, dodging missiles while getting ear pounded by those killer music tracks just sucked me out of reality and made me truly appreciate a genre that I had never really been fond of before. I remember when it was announced that the studio responsible for these games was being shut down and I was gutted thinking I'd never get to have the experience again in a time where the technology could handle it.
Hands down the next evolutionary step in WipeOuts future (if it ever has one) is VR integration. But for now I will enjoy this glorious reincarnation of a beloved franchise and I'll get to see if my kid has the same experience I did way back when.
Just finally picked this up for 20 bucks. It's glorious. Hadn't played a Wipeout game since Wipeout XL which I was addicted to. Addicted all over again.
i cant have enough of your reviews man, they are just, perfect.
i dont have anything else to say, and that is not a common thing in me.
Thanks for watching mate :)
Just discovered your channel by accident. Wonderful written and very informative - subscribed instantly!
Ever since i played wipEout Pure on the psp, if it isn't just the gameplay, the music hooks you in. I'm still listening to this day.
Judging from this video, the $16 sale price for this game (as of (12/19/17) on PSN must be a steal!
WipeOut was the game that got me into gaming. I have loved every WipeOut that has been released and I still own all the copies with the exception of WipeOut 2048. Its difficult to pick just one thing I like best from the series but if I had to pick one its the combination of brilliant music amazing visuals and ridiculous speed. I remember playing on Rapier Class on WipeOut 2097 and thinking "I'm never going to be able to master this". For me it was also the first racing game that actually required a decent level of skill to be bale to play it at the higher speeds. The Omega Collections looks phenomenal and I agree it will be the best in the series. Its also nice to see a new game being priced so reasonably, here in the UK it is £29.99 which is an absolute steal.
I used to play the old wipe out on a ps1! it is amazing what they've done with it! my favourite thing about wipeout is that you can play over and over with your sibling. I also love the music! this really brings back memories!
I absolutely fell in love with the Wipeout games especially because of the sense of speed and even more because of the soundtrack. Its amazing how much those fast paced tunes add to the overall experience and fun one can have with the games. The Wipeout Soundtracks made me discover my love for soundtracks in general. For example the Metal Gear Solid Saga. Completely different deal here but the way the music stresses the atmosphere the game is generating and how it simply sucks the player in is astonishing. Im happy to hear Omega Collection is no different. Im looking forward to play this game with my friends in split-screen since I dont own a PS4. I feel like less and less games offer a local multiplayer and focus more on online play. I miss those times where you met up at a friends place and simply play video games together. I hope Wipeout Omega can provide some remedy, that would make a bunch of people happy all at once. Keep doing those passionate reviews and friendly insights man. I assume you are going to read most of the comments when you are back from E3 and if so, welcome back and Cheers.
I liked the freedom you felt in the later WipeOut games, and still today my palms get sweaty wanting to revisit this awesome world. Thanks for the giveaway, hoping to be entered into the giveaway. Thank You SkillUp !
never been a wipeout fan but the price, the music, the visuals just made me interested in this game from day one.
really comprehensive reviews reminding us the context and importance of wipeout. brilliant!
This review was perfect! (And this is the first video I saw from you)
I've platinumed HD and 2048 already but think about getting this collection as well, since it's being praised so much.
I loved wipeout when it originally came out and this looks amazing
This is a blast from the past. Wipeout has always been a fantastic racing game.
thanks for the review m8. Definitely going to pick this up at some point
WipEout scratches that itch that F-Zero left unscratched since its disappearance from Nintendo's radar. But most importantly, it's so captivating an audiovisual experience that just watching gameplay footage is enough to give me goosebumps. Glad to see it's getting coverage.
Oh my lord, drum and bass and racing. A match made in heaven.
Hey Skill Up, you got me hyped up to hopefully give this a try. I remember when my Mom surprised me with an odd game called "Wipeout" for my PS1! Great - thanks Mom... what on earth have you gotten me!? Try it out and o.m.g. my brain melted and hearing you talk about this collection, the music and everything else really took me back. I still quote the narrator saying "Rockets" in my life today. The electronic music blaring when I made my first huge jump / fall and you crest into the horizon line and the music synced up absolutely perfectly... It was breathtaking. I hope I can win the free giveaway so I can dive back into this series and relive some memories!
Thanks for the review I didnt have this game on my radar. It will look great on my 55 inch 4k tv and 5.1 home theater. What fascinates me about wipeout is the fast pace racing and to be honest right now we need a good racing gaming.
god, I remember back when I had my psp id take only this game and just race nonstop, but now I am absolutely amazed by the graphics music or overall quality, even if I don't win I am so getting this at Christmas time
Always loved Wipeout since I was very little, way back in the PS1 days. The colours, the music, the speed, nothing has ever compared for me personally. Hell, it's part of the reason why I never really "got" Mario Kart when I was at my friend's house as a kid, I just didn't understand why it was so slow feeling.
xGamermonkeyx Even now, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe provides me with NO challenge. WipEout make my heart jump out my chest tho - LOVE IT ❤️
I've been playing it for a few hours now. It's amazing! The online mode as well.
I'm so happy to see the Wipeout series still getting love, I still play Wip3out, Pure and Pulse here n there, this series is just too good.
The main reason that this game apeals to me the most along with the reasons in your well structured review is because i remember back in primary school when i was like 12 around 9 years ago there was a game similar to this on the school Pc's that you could play on the internet that i would play all the time. i havn't been able to find it till now and seeing the 'final form' of this game makes me so excited to experience this game for hours on end. keep up the good work mate love the quality and time that goes into your videos. its the reason i watch your 30 minute long thought out review over a 5 minute quickie from 'IGN' >.>
And you made this review before the VR version came out LMFAO You had no idea how could this game would become.
AND NOW IT'S FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a massive fan of Wipeout since the first one, and having yet to buy a PS4, i think you have just made me not only buy a PS4 Pro, but also a 4k TV.
I honestly forgot about this series, however the style of the game meshed with that soundtrack are incredible. Plus, seems like a good entry into that genre of racing.
I remember playing this game on PS3. it was very addictive and mesmerizing back then. I recently just upgraded to the PS4 pro and after watching your video I'm glad it's back and I will probably be buying this and making my friends buy it too so I can destroy their fastest times. Great video skill up. Thanks
Wipeout, this game came out but technology just couldnt do it justice, its great to see that everything caught up and can now deliver the complete experience intended for this game,, great game and as always great review, this is one i will be picking up.
And yet the phsysics were best on ps1. There was a genuine floatyness going on with the ships. When you were blazing at rapier or phantom speed, you had to start taking a corner long before the corner would even be visible. It was brilliant.
It me, most racing game are fun. once I saw that this game was remastered, I'm like holy s#@$. This game, to me, a sense of excitement at just the first photo. plus keep up the great work skill up.
When I bought Wipeout HD Fury for PS3 both me and my friend just sat down with open mouths when we tried the first track. Even the PS3 version looks better than most PS4 games to say the least, it's really one of those games where you can't point out a single thing that could have been made better.
Wipeout is the game that ignited my video gaming bug all the way back in 97. Went to the house of a friend I met in college who'd converted the spare room in his mums house into a gaming room. PS one hooked up to a big ass TV and technics sound system. When I saw the ridiculous speed of the game and heard the cutting edge soundtrack booming through the sound system I immediately went out and bought a Playstation and a copy of wipeout. What better way to celebrate my 20 years of gaming with the racer that kicked it all off! Great review and I'll be downloading it as soon as I get home.
Despott totally feel you man, as i was reading your comment i felt i was there with you guys!
This Review inspired me to Buy Wipeout seconds later, at 4am in the morning.
ok fine. ill buy it.. good review
I'm 3 min into this video and this is already one of my favorite review videos Ive ever seen. A look back over the history of the franchise was icing on the cake. Welldone! Subscribing and hope the rest of your reviews are this great an in depth!
Really happy you have this game a review. Bought it yesterday and I can't tell you how much of a blast from the past it was. if we never get a new Wipeout game (which I hope we do someday) this is a perfect send-off to the series. it's graphically beautiful and still as white knuckle and aggressive and technical as I remember. This game and Tekken 7 are my summertime fill ins until September, when that new Bungie game releases...you know the one. lol
what a great review !
Thanks for watching :)
Wait.. have you tried the VR patch??
Some real nostalgia watching those classic clips. Spent hours playing wipeout 2097 and would love to do the same again with this one.
It was awesome to hear someone so stoked about the WipeOut series and your reference to Rez was spot on. I've loved this series since its' inception on the PSX. It was the second game I purchased on the PSX and I never regretted it. The series was good fun, but also challenging in its' higher speed variants. Competition gets thick! I can't wait to play the Omega Collection. I will find a way purchase it, but it would be great to WIN a copy! I will be spreading word of it to do my part in bolstering sales. WipeOut needs to remain relevant and this entry appears to be fuel for that fire.
Great video, I appreciate the analysis!.
I want to buy a PS4 just to play this game xD I played Wipeout Pure and Pulse on PSP and HD/Fury on PS3, then I moved to PC, and seeing that game... I want to go back
Whats the name of the game at 7:50? Please tell me, I need to know :o
This was a really interesting review! It not only sounded like you have such an endearing passion for the franchise, but you also offered a tonne of context for those who may or may not have played any of the games in the first place! Awesome stuff! :D You've sold me on this and I'm gonna have to play it at some point! Have a good'un at E3!
Thanks mate :)
Great review man. I've been playing this series forever, thanks to the introduction by one of my best childhood friends. You get this series 100%. Love it. Subbed!
NOW THIS IS POD RACING!
This is how you do a goddamn review.
Just being able to play a modern version of wipeout would make my nostalgia nerve go nuts
Wipeout was a small part of my childhood, and seeing it's return is a big deal to me.
Watching the first 3 mins here on how wipeout defined PS and I'm almost certain there were Saturn and N64 versions of Wipeout. And yes I'm right. I do think wipeout is synonymous with PS, it would be misleading to say it was a PS only series
they weren't very good, or popular at all.....
True but the Saturn and N64 versions were released 1 and 3 years after the PS version, respectively. Wipeout 64 was also it's own game as it wasn't just a re-release of the original Wipeout on a new console. Also the PS one is arguably the most successful of the consoles mentioned. There was also a MS-DOS and Windows version released in 1995 too.
...almost 20 years ago, damn I'm getting old.
Thoughtful and well written. I REALLY appreciated the primer on Wipeout and PlayStation - it articulates ideas that have been bouncing around my head since I picked up the remake.
Great review!
The soundtrack has always been on point. Most of them have become playlists for me on Play Music :) . Looking forward to the selection they have here!
thanks for the great review (the way you did it, this was the game I really needed), I was reluctant o buy for my PSVR, but now I will have to grab it tomorrow. Have not played since the original one, due to he very same things you mentioned... Thanks a lot
I really enjoyed wipeout back on the PS3, so I am looking forward to giving this a shot again. My favorite thing about Wipeout was that it seemed like a more serious version of Mario cart, with the weapons and power-ups. So it was cool, flashy, and intense. It reminded me of all the time I sunk into F-ZERO-X on the N64.
awesome review I have always had a soft spot in my heart for racing games. used to play them with friends all the time and this brings up so many awesome memories.
I think what appeals to me most is the fact that I'm interested in a game of this type after years and years of not being interested. The visuals and the gameplay do look exceptionally fun and that is also what I look for most in a video game. What I love about your compelling reviews is that you take the time to tell a story. It feels genuine and I enjoy it. Your review of Nier: Automata prompted me to buy a copy the very next day. And cheers for that.
Watching this video brought back so many great memories of spacing out in front of my tv playing old school wipeout on my 1st gen PlayStation.
Wipeout is and has always been on a different level to other racing games. That soundtrack is superb. I can listen to it all day
the soundtrack is such a huge part of WipEout games, and i've been entranced with Omega Collection's. Zone mode is trippy AF
I remember playing Wipeout on a snowy day as a teenager. It was awesome. Still have the long cardboard box version. It was awesome, can still hear the music in my head. Hope to recreate that memory in a few weeks.
Wipeout in General, has always, and I mean ALWAYS, had a place in my heart. its honestly crushing that we have yet to have a new game of the wipeout series, but this is certainly a Welcoming game. it looks amazing, and honestly, when I saw the trailers, I was amazed and all the Nostalgia I had playing this game with my older brother came rushing back!
I cant wait to get my hands on it, and relieve every ounce of Nostalgia, and the amazing badass soundtrack that made this game what it was. An Experience, and a freaking fun game to play!
Just passing by your review after a futuristic racing games marathon, and I'm very grateful that someone else feels the same enthusiasm about playing this game. Wipeout Omega was the reason I bought a PS4 last year, and I was so excited for it that I got the digital version at release (in my country it was not released in physical format, which I tend to prefer). Even though I wasn't even born when the first game came out, I surely could feel the same hype and experience as I played the first track with a Chemical Brothers song blasting in the background.
