I am a huge CH fan, but sort of lost track of a lot of music for a time. A friend gifted this album to me after a long musical drought. So glad to get reacquainted. This album is brilliant, so many emotions, and just the beauty of Neil Finn. Grateful 💚💚💚
This is an eclectic mix of experiences and emotions.. it is the anti-pop song. Neil was called a pop craftsman through his career. This song appears to be a fleshing out of his many talents showing a much deeper poignant richer style beyond classic pop. This song is obviously about more than one "thing". There are some beautiful lyrics of love (as I stroke your back, I'm the best that you know) and struggle (he said come here as he pushed me down). Just BEAUTIFUL
this brings me to tears every time I watch this performance. My first CD was Crowded house Woodface and they were my first live concert at 10. Them the final concert in Sydney and the reunion in Sydney and I still dream of one day marrying Neil.
Woodface wasn't my first album but my first CH album on cassette and I fucking played it to death. Brings me back everytime. They are so fucking special. ❤
... amo questa canzone e la sua splendida voce sopra ogni cosa.... nessuno mi emoziona così profondamente..... Adoro quest'uomo!!! Thanks a lot from Verona - Italia
@Rissoleking: @bobwise1977: In the inofficial "Lyrics Manual" it says that parts of the lyrics were indeed inspired by a row between Neil and CH drummer Paul, the high heels bit may refer to Paul's high heels routine on stage. I think the rest is a rather straightforward love song to Neil's wife Sharon.
its lots of little parts i love...tales from my head cant buy the book...you say your tired, liquid as water...and 'im the best that you know' to mention just a few as well as the high heels line you mentioned. and the music is just pure magic. i have all the crowded house/finn brothers/neil finn albums. even a slit enz cd, but this song is my favourite musically and lyrically along with whispers and moans
Thats one of the things I really like about his lyrics - because they're not a straight narrative, they convey an emotion before anything else, which means you don't have to have had a tiff with Paul Hester to understand what he's getting at!
The lyric of "Violent stranger He said come here as he pushed me down It's impossible to do" was inspired apparently by a backstage scuffle Neil had with Paul in Milan.
always thought there was more to neil finns music and lyrics than the average "pop"writer they have a much deeper feel to them even more so than lennon or mccartney
I heard in an old interview that 'he said come here/as he pushed me down' is about a push and shove he had with Paul Hester after a gig before CH broke up... the high heels bit has me buggered though!
still remember paul mccartney saying" i wish i could write ballads like niel finn".one legend to another.
This guy's a genius. No one writes songs like this!
The way he plays piano is just gorgeous!
Miss this era of Neil Finn. Try Whistling This and One Nil are probably my favourite albums from all of his solo career.

No finer musician on this planet, just my humble opinion. Simply outstanding, in every way
A completely underrated and masterful musician. Thanks, Neil. You got me through some rough and interesting times.
True artist right there. A genius songwriter. Love Neil.

One of the most gut-wrenchingly honest songs ever.

"and my words are ringing in your ears". beautiful words from then on and right to the end. definitely my favourite part...
