For my source, I looked up cities that increased their police funding instead of decreasing it. I compared the crime numbers provided by their police departments with the numbers in other cities, as well as the national numbers and the FBI's numbers. You won't find this in any one source. I went city by city and looked at all their numbers. Jacksonville, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Mesa, and Fresno, are all urban areas run by pro-police Republicans. They all saw increases in crime. Jacksonville is considered Florida's "murder capital". Fort Worth's murder rate has doubled in the last year. San Antonio has seen the fourth biggest increase in homicides of any city in the nation. Mesa has seen a 125 percent increase in homicides, where more people have died in the first six months of 2021 than in all of 1991. Meanwhile, Fresno's homicide rate is currently higher than both LA and San Francisco. These are cities that publicly prided themselves on INCREASING their police funding. Meanwhile "Democratic" cities that increased their funding instead of decreasing it, like Atlanta and Baltimore, also saw crime increases. Clearly there is a national phenomenon at work that is giving rise to increased crime that has nothing to do with whether or not the "Defund movement" has traction in a given city. @@jlehm I said that crime is increasing across all urban areas regardless of political party control and police funding, not that it is increasing at a higher rate.
