Glorious seems to be taking the OnePlus route albeit for different external factors. The end result is the same though, a scrappy upstart providing insane value but then living long enough to see itself become the villain.

Glorious looks even worse than Oneplus right now, since new Oneplus phones are still good and competitive just not as affordable as their OG phones were. Glorious seems to sell mediocre products at weird prices and as BST said, they "get" you in the customisation. If I wanted to customise my model D as I wanted, I'd have to spend as much $$ as the mouse itself was (Incl. shipping)

I've had some personal issues with Glorious as well. I hold a Marketing Degree and decided back in January that I would apply for a Copywriter/SEO job with them. During my first interview, they told me that I was overqualified for that role and they wanted to instead consider me for a Marketing Coordinator role.
They then ghosted me for over 3 months and then finally responded asking if I was still interested in a Marketing role with Glorious. I told them "yes" and they literally said, "False alarm, we aren't hiring for marketing or social media roles anymore." I can't tell if it's a complete disaster in their HR department, or just an incredibly unorganized company.

Now, how they think they can compete with keychrons offers in the budget market (v1,q series, q0), I don't know. Anyone going for more premium options has access to much better offers from other vendors. I have a kbd75 that's the price (combined) of the fully built gmmk pro, that I would venture is much better.

    1. I prefer wife’s approval on stuff I buy, 120 on something is easier to get a stamp on than 350.
    2. I wanted the 65% layout as I like the minimal aesthetic and ergonomics of it more, but since I work on the computer I wouldn’t mind having access to a numpad on occasion.

I've thought about buying other stuff from Glorious but whenever I looked at their site their prices seemed to be all over the place. Once I saw they rebranded from Glorious PC Gaming Race I sorta understood what was happening. I agree, the slider is useless since you have the nob for volume. I'm sure if you could make a macro for brightness for the then it'd be great but, that seems more feasible for a laptop than the desktop I use it with.
What's kinda weird is that it goes into power saving mode after a few minutes of inactivity even when it's directly connected to PC via USB.

I have a number of custom keyboards and most of them are from Keychron, I have almost all the keychron Q models, because I find it fun to customise them and change form factor every now and then and I always know they will work fine out of the box (with Linux as well). I find the keychron prices reasonable and within the realms of the custom keyboards hobby, I would even say very affordable. But I have a hard time understanding where Glorious is going with these products and prices, I think they should be evolving the GMMK Pro brand with new models etc. like keychron does.

Nah, this checks all the boxes for me. A zero-compromise product. I'll use it with my PC for macros for like 10 separate pieces of software, and take it on the go with my laptop for use with tablet mode for drawing, 3D sculpting, brush size, stabilization, hotkeys etc. It doesn't hurt that it's wireless, it doesn't hurt that it has backlight, all that is optional, all it does is increase the price, and you aren't forced to buy it. It is overpriced, but at the same time there's nothing like it on the market. A lite version would be great tho. Without the CNC aluminum. Battery life is a bit disappointing. I don't mind it not being optimized for a southpaw setup. FYI, RGB can be functional, it's not just for aesthetics.
The only reason people have a problem with it is that it's sold by Glorious, a brand that used to be known for good, budget products. And now they're steering away from that brand image. If they released it under a premium sub-brand, then nobody would have an issue with it (similar to Toyota and Lexus). Or better yet, sell it as a 2x as expensive kit via group buys as that sub brand, then it would be sought after and enthusiasts/collectors would salivate over it. But I guess they aren't just some dude doing all that in a backyard shed.
Or you can build yourself a Murphpad, for a similar cost, without backlight, with an OLED screen instead, with DIY build quality, with ZMK, so you're forced to remap your keys by hand in a text editor. No, thanks.
Stop fanboying for brands, people. Love the product instead.

If you just need a numpad with an encoder, I'm a big fan of the CustomMK genesis. It's pretty barebones. Stacked FR4 and Acrylic with rubber feet, but it costs 67$ and has full VIA support, numpad and macropad layout options, and really nice RGB. Plus it seems like they keep it in stock.

But if you don't want to order one online this is the only good option where I live. It's this one or an ugly cheap numpad from Logitech. I prefer the look of this numpad more so it's simple. Cost whatever, I "need" those keys today and don't want to wait several weeks or months for an order from across the globe.

The phrase "jumps the shark" comes to mind - I'm a big fan of this brand - and was looking for a nice num pad that I could use mainly to try/test new switch types but at $130 probably not gonna happen. We have a couple (one for my son one for my wife) GMMK Pro barebones that we built up - probably have about $250-260 in each when it's all said and done - is it worth the $100 more to have it "pre-built" I don't know - perhaps. Personally, I went down a notch to their non-Pro TKL and swapped the switches and went with nicer key caps - I have about $160 in that board and with the exception of the knob (which is cool but may not be worth the $60 more plus switches if you swap out the ones the non-Pro comes with) my board is in the same ballpark, functional but not as "nice" as my wife's/son's GMMK Pro.

Most numpads I've seen recently are being used as macro pads, so it seems companies are pricing it as dock stations for streamers and other products like it, just disguised as "its a super customizable numpad full of bells and whistles for no particular reason!"

Thanks for this! I received the email not too long ago about the pre-order for this thing and was truly curious. It wasn't all the addons that pushed me away from this item, but it was the price point itself. I could get a the Mountain Core + Numpad and still pay less overall for that than a Glorious Pro + Numpad. I have to agree with many of the commentors as well; what IS going on with Glorious? Why such a sudden turn from affordable entry/mid-game keebs to ... group guys and outrageous price points? /soapbox
Speaking of, do you have any other southpaw style keebs you could recommend?

Funny enough your coverage of the Gmmk Pro brought me into the keeb hobby. After going down the custom keeb rabbit hole I cancelled 2 pre orders of the Gmmk Pro and picked up a KBD67lite and recently a Zoom65. Haven’t looked at Glorious products since then, and this numpad is confirmation that they are still going in the wrong direction.

Got one. It is perfect for my Razer Blade 15 Advanced laptop, though the numpad is very heavy. I bought it for the cnc build quality and wireless features.
I imagine it is best matched to their $169 keyboard. I think it is quality over bargain pricing.

Thank you for calling Glorious out on their bullshit. Their group buy model has been bothering me alot lately. I purchased a Model O when it first launched and thought it was a great thing that a company was bringing an alternative to the orginal finalmouse, that would be readily available. Now it seems that they are just adopting a group buy model in order to instill a FOMO mentality on their customers. This is further proven when you realize that they are a much bigger company now and don’t have to rely on group buys to research and develop their products. Again, thank you for speaking out. I think the only way glorious will change is if it big community leaders such as yourself, speak. Because they are clearly not listening to their customers.

    • @Wylie288
      @Wylie288 2 года назад

How is group buy bullshit? Its the only way to sell low demand products. Without group buy, those products simply wouldn't exist. And not one person who wanted them would be happy to not have the chance to buy the niche things they want. Left handed people especially. Only razer has the mainstream appeal to sell left handed mice at a profit for example. Group buys are the only way left handed people will ever get the exact not razer mouse they want.
And NO. it is NOT reasonable to sell ANYTHING for a loss or even break even. Thats greed on YOUR part.

Glad I've seen this review. I've been a Glorious fanboy ever since I've gotten a GMMK Pro during the group buy, and also picked up a Model O and had been very satisfied. I got the email for the GMMK Numpad and honestly, at first sight wanted to buy it. I too took a look at current prices and felt taken advantage of, even I can't debate spending almost the same price as the group buy GMMK Pro on a numpad.

Yep i just found out about it today. Excitedly opened the page expecting something reasonable, but i mean a numpad that cost the same amount as the GB for my main keyboard (after adding like a single plate and another small item) is not justifiable

I agred expensive but the guys like us who didn't squint at $350 for TKL can drop $120 easy for a nice RGB numpad ee need for work & can move out of the way for game or on left. And Keychron has a non RGB for $20 less. Hehe. I dont care if it matched. It looks awesome near your favorite keyboard to compliment. (:

That's what I've been thinking. I use to be a huge fan. Fell in love with the Model-O, got the wrist rests thick and thin, then one for brother. I use to highly recommend their mice to all my friends. Now with the group buys and the "guild" emails, I've backed away. Even got myself a gpx. They really became villains.
