Just wondering... Besides the position of the arms and the holding of a bar, what would you say the difference is between the weightlifter's high bar back squat technique, and the don yu?
Hi Guy, To be honest I have to say I don't lift weights, but having observed weightlifters in action, it would seem to me that with the weightlifter squats there is considerable tension with the spinal column held quite rigid (even without weights). Therefore, no movement in the spine when sitting/standing and therefore no movement in the internal organs and limited circulation through the body. The body has to be very relaxed for that to happen. As well, the connection and timing of the arms in the Dan Yu becomes critical as you progress with your Tai Chi. Not to mention all the grunting....LOL Cheers
Thanks for the explanation and support
