Great beats. Thanks for advising safety glasses. Glass tends to break and fly upward in these kind of things

This is crazy, your mirror is no longer going to be able to function as it did when new. You can buy the whole unit with the heater and dimmer in the assembly and just plug the wires back on. all this other stuff is crazy. your mirror cast 15.00 for 29.00 you get the whole assembly ring and all, you take the off like you did at first, remove the wires and plug. plug the plug into the back of the new mirror assembly, plug the two wires back on the assembly and put the mirror back in the housing done. just like new. now your mirror will still warm up and melt ice off and darken and lighten like it once did.
when you put the mirror wires back on and the lug in - those have NOTHING to do with the movement of the mirror. they are the heater nd dimmer. so now you are heating up those stickers on the old glass.

No more auto dimming but it is still holding up well and she can see.

How has this held up over time? Im wondering if having the original glass plugged into heat, deteriorated the adhesive backing of the aftermarket glass?

Yes, it's been over 3 years and still going strong. Good luck!

On my RX 330, the driver side rear view mirror is doing weird things. First, the plastic strip around the glass melted on a bottom corner. Then a discolored strip about 1/2” wide on the top side of the glass showed up. Finally, the whole center of the glass got “cloudy”. Before all this, the mirror quit adjusting automatically when car goes in reverse and that side did not heat . My take is that the motor and heating element went bad, burnt thru the plastic strip and damaged the glass. Thinking about replacing the glass part and leaving the wirings inside the mirror housing disconnected, I am not concerned about heating the mirror, just replacing the glass. Is this possible? Thanks

@Paul Gekides, Yes, based on your description I agree, there is some kinda electrical problem/short. Does your other mirror work properly? And yes, you can certainly replace the mirror only and keep all the wiring disconnected.

mine is RX330 also. the heater inside the mirror assembly burns it all up. looks like a orange rainbow and refuses to work . also, it will work again after you take the battery lose and everything resets. after just a few days though the motor thing will quit working to adjust it. also when you take the battery lose you get the pleasure of reprogramming all the door windows again. I am going to order the full mirror with the new heater and dimmer in it and just put that in and see if lasts another 15 years or so. mines a RX330 2004 model with the center console screen and sun roof. everything goes wonky when the battery is changed. even the radio and transmission , it has to relearn everything, shifts weird, vsc tac control happens, engine light. all that.

Hi when I put the mirror back the motor and auto tilt function were gone?? I wired it back the way it was. Any suggestions? Thank you

Do you hear the motor running? If yes, then you didn't clip in the mirror correctly. Otherwise, something is not connected. Good luck.

If you used a self dimming fitover mirror you would now need to destroy the frame like you did. Go to my site, I'll show you how.

I ordered a new mirror but it looks like they sent me one that does not have the same connections in it. My mirror is not broken or leaking but its colored yellow and has a rainbow looking circle in the middle. I would think putting a sticker mirror on it would keep the heater from working or maybe even heat up behind the sticker and it could fall off, I don't know how hot they get though. If they don't get hot enough to release the sticker it would probably not transfer heat to the new sticker mounted glass though. Grr. it gets very cold here. I think this auto dimming feature is more of a huger pain than helping anything. This acid BS is over engineering and I am about 100% sure they knew this would happen when they built these damned things. Over engineered scam of a mirror design. GRRRRRRRR! Thanks for the video - I hope mine comes off as easy as this did.

Well that's Lexus for you. After reading your comment, I had an idea. If you don't need, or at the very least, can manage without dimming and your mirror is not cracked, why don't you try disassembling your mirror very carefully. Use a dental floss instead of a knife to separate the glass from the back mirror. Clean all the yellow acid and then assemble the old glass. Just glue it around the perimeter with some clear rubber-based glue. That way you'll get rid of the yellowing, lose the auto-dimming but will still have the heated mirrors. Hope that makes sense. Good luck!

Yo Rock, Have conphydense. My mirror was cracked and the 'fluid' leaked. Bought a replacement heated mirror to put in saying screw the dimming part. Removal of the old one went well but couldn't get the new one installed even after putting vaseline on the clips top pop it in. The old one would reinstall easily...so, I chipped off the outer 'glass' of the sandwich mirror and now have a heated mirror again and screw the dimmer. Might return the replacement part to the great Azamom Corp or might keep it for someone else to wrestle with. Best of luck.
