- The King has returned to London after visiting Northern Ireland. He visited here dozens of times, but this was his first visit as monarch. And the first by a British King for nearly eight decades. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
He was welcomed by crowds here and senior political figures and attended a service of reflection for the late Queen.
He also received a message of condolence from the Speaker of Northern Ireland's assembly who acknowledged the Queen's vital role in reconciliation after The Troubles and helping secure a lasting peace.

Fountain pens have always been a disaster waiting to happen.
There is a time and place for a protest. Spewing hatred at someone's funeral procession, in the midst of the family's grief, is not the time or place.
Have some basic manners and dignity for another person's suffering.
Anyone criticising the King for overreacting to a pen, he lost his mother less than a week ago and has probably not slept any more than ten hours in that time. He also has been on the move constantly, with cameras voyeuristically monitoring His every move. Give Him a break, please.

a friend of mine worked at Parker pens in Newhaven and his favourite pen used to arrive to repaired on a few occasions, apparently he liked to throw it at people.

I am a fan of the monarchy, however I 100% agree with the guy. Protest all you want, it's well within your rights, but disrupting national grieving or celebration is wrong, do it somewhere else. It would work much more in their favour if they didn't act like twats basically.

He got frustratef with the pen, but tjat shows the enormous pressure he is under. He has not been allowed to grieve , then the thought of living up to his mothers standards. Also he has constantly been on the go. He doesnot even know the correct date even though hes moter just passed away and the funeral started on the 12th.

That is a great observation @ Anisa Jones. Regardless of his status in life he is a human being and the pressure he is presently experiencing a new one. He is proud and happy to be a King, no doubt about that.... still he is grieving and be much more content if he could have his mom back!!!!!! For some of us this is totally understandable. And I'm just SO sure he will be a great Monarch in his own way as his mom was in her own way.

Ahhhh the Queen experienced the same when her father died and she was definitely always level headed in public. Part of this is his personality. He’s been planning for this most of his life- waiting for her to die so that he could take over. He should have better coping skills. I think the weight of the crown will crush him- he’s not strong enough. Funnily enough Camilla appears as a stronger personality.

I'm not Charles biggest fan, and most of us aren't but this does break my heart for him. Whether they are 96 or 46, losing your parents is a pain that is indescribable. I'm thinking of the entire royal family and hoping they can give in their own ways.
Charles needs to wash away a little of his "Flirtatious charm" and act more Kingly now. I think his mom passing will mature him. I wish him luck, but he has a history of being selfish... For obvious reasons. Lets hope he does his best, and root for a good start at least.

The idea of monarchy might be out dated but I feel they do play an important role. The world isn't liberal and the fights I trust the monarchy to pick are ones that benefit humanity, he's on the side of the free and liberal and I can respect that. he's might represent a backwards time but he also represents the British people and an attack on him is an attack on us all and nobody wants that smoke.

There are probably elderly people that will die in the coming winter because they can't afford to pay their energy bills or even food probably, so I think that's what should be important to the people of the UK than the death of a 96 years old woman who has lived a very privileged life.

I am thankful every day i wake up in this country because we are a democracy. You only have to look at Russia and how your opinions can put you in prison. Freedom of speech is a great thing but it also comes with responsibility. My view is that if you use the death of our Monarch to "protest" (at what) then that is a calculated effort to insult those of us that are grieving. It makes you an attention seeking narcissist.

Nobody forced people to buy flowers and leave a tribute. I'm sure local florists appreciate the business. People could be bringing flowers from their own gardens in some cases. It's their right to do what they want to express their sentiment.
