Arika bless your heart your plate is full. I am navigating my widowed daddy’s 89 yo life long distance. It is so hard. We love him and we all get along however we are retired with two married daughters and four grandchildren. I understand when you say you are trying to navigate the changes, and I can tell (and understand) when you feel anxious. You are entitled to your feelings. You are handling “this” chapter with love, grace & compassion. Blessings

Great job! I totally understand having all of the bins and boxes. I have five adult kids and everyone leaves things! My youngest son is moving out in the Spring, that is when I get my garage back! I can finally park in the garage!!! Thank you for sharing❤❤❤

You looked so good with short hair. I just cut mine into a pixie and I love it. You worked so hard and it shows. I am slowly decluttering my upstairs. At 76 I move much slower and tend to hang onto stuff I know I will never use. So hard to let go. I have enough clothes to dress a dozen ladies, almost any size…..lol. God bless.
What an awesome job! I remember being able to go like that for a whole day working on projects. I miss it. Now I’m almost 59. And I have to spread it out over several days. And a lot more breaks. Lol ❤
Hi Arika! Great minds think alike 😂 I am getting ready to declutter & organize my basement too! I need to order about 3-4 shelving units to put stuff on. I currently have 6. U always motivate me 😊 I'm giving myself the whole month of February to do it.
Wow you have your hands full of work, but you did an awesome job 🎉 it looks like your basement is bigger then the house lol I am jealous of your space down there! I wish we would have been blessed to have one. But it would be a mess for us because everything we still have in tubes would be down there lol but my house would be tote and tub free. We have an attic but it only covers the single garage area , our home was chosen by us but God blessed us with it and we love it. We have been in our home for 11 months and our first home as owners and we have so much to do but the house was in good shape but it was built in 1953 . anyway thank you for sharing your decluttering journey ❤

Decluttering is an amazing life lifter. I had given my kids all their bins when they each got houses and they could choose to keep or pitch. That was 10 bins out of my attic, Phew! Thanks for motivating me even more to get busy in the attic and garage.
My daughter is getting married at the end of this year. We will have collected a ton of stuff and I know it’s expensive but I’d like to pay it forward to a bride who’s less fortunate than us. Maybe your daughter would want that as well. Keep the important reminders and gift the rest. Great job Arika! I’d be in traction the next day after that job 😂

We lived in our house in the northeast for sixteen years without a garage, it looked pretty much the same as yours. Now we have a garage that looks like that lol 😂
Hi Arika, it’s 5:20 am in Arkansas and I couldn’t sleep and so I got on here and watched ur video. I have also been decluttering my house. I gave 4 13 gallon trash bags full of clothes to a family friend. I have been just cleaning house and organizing. I still have a lot to declutter. We have been in our house two years and have already had 2 yard sales and will probably have another one in March. My mama is pretty much a hoarder (lol) and she will not let stuff go. I have tried to help her to get rid of things and to declutter because she says she wants her house clean. (It is clean, it’s just packed!!) I told her the only way to get clean and organized is to let stuff go, you have got to get rid of stuff!!! I do not want to have a junked up and cluttered house. It is a work in progress but I am slowly getting there. I FINALLY got one room turned into an office(the room is already an office but it only had my hubby’s desk in it, not mine.) so I love it. We have to finish hanging some decor on my side in there and then I will finish up decorating our bedroom like I have been wanting it(got a vanity for Christmas). Then I have to work on our spare bedroom which I don’t think will be too terribly hard bc for the most part I have it already organized, just gotta pick it up. By the time I get all this done, it’ll be spring time and time to get all my outside work done on the house(mowing, flowerbeds/mulching, burning brush). Anyhoo, it’ll get done, in time! I’m proud of you for getting your stuff done. We need to give ourselves a pat on the back!! Lol love your channel💕🎉 Monica

I sorted out bedding, linen and towels today. I’m almost 69 and can’t get up into our loft now! We cleared a lot of stuff last year with the help of our son. There me and 8 other siblings, when we got married we had to take whatever belonged to us. 6 of us were girls, so you can imagine what the attic and basement looked like.

When I got married in 2015 I thought I had cleared out all my stuff out of my parent’s house but my mom is still finding stuff! 😂

You definitely have motivated me to clean and declutter my 4 closets. I live in a small duplex and I don't have a basement but I do have a garage and 4 closets. Thanks for sharing the pictures. My den has been turned into a scrapbooking room where I hoard my crafting supplies and pictures. I am not very good at decluttering. I come by it honest though. My Daddy never threw away anything. It is looking so much better. My kids say Momma what will we do with all this stuff when you are gone. I just laugh and tell them that half of the stuff is theirs that they had me storing. LOL....Exactly. A good portion of our junk is my kids stuff.
If they are out and on their own, give them a date to have it out, otherwise it’s donated. I had stored my adult children’s things for way too long, then my mom passed, and she was a “collector” and a crafter, and keeper of all things. Then my widowed father downsized from their home to a small villa, and now is at end of life. All the stuff has filled my home to bursting. No one wants any of it, esp me. There are family members who feel it should be kept forever, but they don’t want to keep it. 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ None of it is worth the anxiety and lack of peace in my home. It’s been going by the car loads to donation centers. I feel so much better, esp knowing I am not going to pass the burden on to my children or grandchildren.

Arika, amazon sells a carry case for all your wrapping paper, tape scissors, bows, bags ... holds everything and so easy to store.

You and Karen from Mainer Mom are my favorites because I also have that type of basement. Except that's where my laundry is😫.
I like having carpet runners to walk on, like from my steps (which are carpeted) to the washer, or to the garage door. With a yucky cement sorta- painted floor (chipped and peeled after 30 years) it makes it so much nicer to walk on.

Your basement is big. You could honestly build two more bedrooms and a big den down there. For flooring to make it warmer you could always put down LVT. Is durable it goes over concrete and it's waterproof. Great job!

Wow, great job!!!! That was SO inspiring!! My basement is also so cluttered with so much stuff, a lot of it is my grown kids. I find the hardest part is getting it out, taking it to goodwill or putting it out for the trash. It’s often so heavy and I just can’t do it alone. Thanks for always being so real and relatable. That’s a huge basement. I had one in my last house. This house doesn’t have one so everything goes in the garage. I recently had my roof replaced and there was a dumpster in my driveway. I thought I could clear out some stuff but the dumpster did not open in the back.
Sorting, cleaning basement...one of the toughest jobs. I tried a suggestion to set a timer and only did one hour at a time. I was surprised how fast I was able to get the job done. Yep, I hated that job!
