  • Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye VERSES Dinosaur Side by Side Comparison at 4K 60FPS! Following the Destination D announcement that a new Indiana Jones Themed Experience to coming to Animal Kingdom over the next few years, I decided to put together a side-by-side comparison showing off the Similarities and Major Differences between the two attractions. While the Internet wants you to believe that Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye at Disneyland in California has the exact same track as Dinosaur at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom, the reality is these two attractions are VERY different. There are many incorrect blueprints and videos out there that claim these two attractions are the same when in reality only about 40% of the track from Dinosaur follows the same route as Indiana Jones Adventure. When the Attraction was brought over to Animal Kingdom, Imagineers needed more vertical and horizontal room for many of the show scenes they wanted to show off with their Animatronic Dinosaurs and Sets. In order to achieve this, they had to heavily modify not only the track but the show building as well! While Indiana Jones Adventure can fit into Dinosaur, Dinosaur CAN NOT fit into Indiana Jones Adventure. Dinosaur's show building is larger and not as symmetrical as Indiana Jones' Show Building. This, again, is due to the Imagineers needing more horizontal as well as vertical height for theming. I'm also curious as to how the Imagineers will work with the extremely small Queue Space with Dinosaur since Dinosaur is only a few rooms compared to Indiana Jones Adventure's near half a mile walk. For comparison, I have also included a side-by-side of the Queues from both Dinosaur and Indiana Jones Adventure at the beginning of the video. While the Indiana Jones Adventure ride might be coming to replace Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom, the attraction WILL look VERY Different from its Californian Counterpart.
In the following RUclips Chapters/Timestamps I will try my best to show off the differences between the two attractions listing the changes and modifications done to the Dinosaur Show building Compared to the Original Indiana Jones Adventure Show Building:
    0:00 - Queue/Preshow Comparison
5:45 - Indiana Jones VS Dinosaur Comparison Start
5:46 - Beginning: Dinosaur slightly shorter & steeper ramp. Basically the same
6:19 - First Turn: COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TRACK. Indiana Jones mostly goes straight while climbing higher than Dinosaur. Dinosaur track modified to allow for more showroom space to the left. Right Side (where the animatronic dinosaurs are) is not inside the original Indiana Jones Show Building area, Animatronics are actually on top of the Maintenance building! If put into Indiana Jones, the Dinosaurs would be behind the blue wall to the right. The track on Dinosaur is also somewhat shorter
6:46 - Staircase scene. Indiana Jones starts descending after climbing up since the Mara scene. The dinosaur Goes up and then down where the staircase is supposed to be. The left turn after the slope down is the same
6:52 - Skeleton Room: Indiana Jones goes above the Chamber of Destiny (where the door that opens is). Track Section was removed in Dinosaur, and replaced the scene with the giant Carnotaurus Animatronic. Dinosaur does NOT go above the tunnel area, presumably due to the height of the animatronic.
7:10 - Bug Room - Snake Room. Both rides are basically the same
7:43 - Mud Slide and Crumbling Face of Mara. Dinosaur track straightened out. Indiana Jones track slightly turns left and right to simulate the vehicle losing traction down a mudslide. This was removed entirely in Dinosaur
7:59 - Dark Corridor. The dinosaur track extended outward by about 20 feet give or take. Will explain more later.
8:23 - Dart Room. Dinosaur is quite literally outside the show building. If you look at Google Earth, you will see a section of the building at juts out, This was done so you can see the massive Carotaurus and Iguanodon Animatronics. Indiana Jones' Skeleton room is underneath another set piece and has very little headroom. The Imagineers pushed the show scene out to allow for more space for the animatronics.
8:48 - Boulder Scene. Dinosaur goes basically full speed back to the station while Indiana Jones goes fairly slowly. This is again due to the previous scene that was extended outwards to allow for more room for the animatronics. This is also why it takes Dinosaur longer to get back to the station despite it going basically full speed the entire time.
9:05 - Loading Station - From here to the loading station, both attractions are identical. As you can see, there are multiple differences between the two attractions. It is going to be interesting to see what Disney Imagineers are going to do with the Indiana Jones theming in Animal Kingdom!

I mean, Dinoland USA isn't really that interesting of a land and quite frankly should have been rethemed years ago. This new take will bring the land to life, and retheming Dinosaur with Indi just makes too much sense as it allows Disney to avoid having to tear down the ride itself and can instead just replace the interior to match what Disneyland has. Add in that the que for Indi is far better than Dinosaur, and the ride itself feels more authentic with Indi than with Dinosaurs, and there's really no reason to keep Dinosaur around.

Fr, I think they should just do a giant retheme of Dino land and revamp of the Dinosaur ride. I think they should just make Dino land feel like you are stepping back in time to when dinosaurs were on earth. It’s kind of sad that animal kingdom is losing its main theme to ips. I think Pandora is cool but I would’ve preferred beastly kingdom.

This is great - thank you! Could you also please consider doing one to show the differences between Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean vs Walt Disney World’s? I realize that is a bit harder because Disneyland’s is so much longer - but only having been on it a few times years ago, i was always curious about the differences.

Ya, the Imagineers changed ALOT between the two rides. I can't speak for everyone, but I would guess most people read the first article they see and take it as fact. There's also a side-by-side image on Google of the Indiana Jones and Dinosaur Track layout that a lot of websites/content creators use which is unfortunately incorrect.

I just hope Disney just expand the park instead of replacing Dinoland. Like i don't mind South America, as their fauna is amazing. Encanto & Indiana Jones are just bad additions to DAK. Indy for me would be better in Hollywood Studios or Adventureland in MK. Like what does Indy have anything to do with animals? The man's a archeologists not a zoologist, biologist or paleontologist. And encanto is just magical possessed house.

Feel like I'm watching a completely different video from some people here. Indiana Jones appears to have more of a story, and brighter show scenes yet Dinosaur to me is superior due to the rough nature of the ride coupled with the scares on it. Many of the scenes here are super bright to be able to see it, but its a lot darker on the ride than shown here. The roughness of the ride adds to the adventure as you really feel like you're traversing a jungle/narrowly escaping giant dinos. Theres way more animatronics and less boring/bland projection mapping...Only one part of the dinosaur ride isn't a real physical object. I loved the original version of the Indianna Jones ride before all the best effects broke, but without them to me it's not really anything special. The snake is cool since it gets close to the ride vehicle, but more dinosaurs get just as close if not closer in some cases. Not to mention they are much more imposing due to their size. The set designs in Indiana are much more intricate than dinosaur, which is impressive but theres also not much going on in them movement wise. Just some fire, projections (some of which feel weird to see in a temple..), and the snake until the iconic boulder scene comes out. We see a dino chase us in Dinosaur (when it works), one dino eating another dino, ect. What Dinosaur lacks in props per scene I feel it makes up in whats actually happening in the scene.
Indiana Jones got a major update, but Dinosaur only got a minor one which only added a tribute to an old effect long since turned off: some dinosaurs jumping over you. When it was in better shape, the dinosaurs looked much more threatening/scary. They deserve the same update Indy got.

This video highlights how much better Indiana jones is compared to Dinosaur! Disney, please follow through with this and put INDY in Animal kingdom! It is unacceptable that Disneyland gets an INDY attraction and WDW does not.
