There are so many dumb comments here! I have studied theology and Mormon doctrine for more than 60 years so it is easy for me to see this! DNA (haplarroup x2) evidence as well as many other discoverires have been made lately! All one needs to do is see the videos by Rod Mildrum and Wayne May!!!
Cleon Skousen Book of Mormon Lecture 6 (about the 26 minute mark) may have talked about this.

Sara K , you are partially right. Not all indians have that dna link. However, the Catholic church actually conducted their own dna testing and they, not the mormons, found that the dna for some tribes did indeed match.

This was maybe some ten or more years ago when I had the same question. I don't remember the link but I know what I read. Back when dna evidence was starting to pick up there were people who wanted to test the israel / indian link. The indians along the west coast were negative as well as several central american indians. However, the indians who were more eastern around central to east coast area were coming up positive with some of the Jewish genes. I tried to find a non-mormon source and found that it was a group of Catholics, not sure of what organization within their church and the article was not specific but the Catholic church was prominantly mentioned. I will try to find it again.
Just performed a quick google search, "american indians are related to jews," and found articles were jews are calling some of the indian tribes members of one of the lost ten tribes of Israel. This because of dna evidence found linking jews and indians.
Will OCrowley DNA is much better understood today. That old study has been refuted. The similar haplogroup is now known to be unrelated.

It's not racist. They just so happenly different races. Neither race is shown as better than the other. There are good and bad people in every race.
When it came to the Native Americans, Brigham Young was the most UN-RACIST leader in America.

Wow. This was just a mere 15 years before I was born. A whole lot can change in 58 years (and not for the better, just a lot of PR work going on to make it seem like videos like this never happened). 58 years before this video we still had polygamist as a 'prophet'. In 58 more years my hope is that the whole 'Ship Zion' has been sunk and all that stands is the Bible. That would make everything way more simple than the craziness and convolution of the church as it stands now. What a hot mess it all is that really messes with people's lives.
