Hi Chris nice first review of this upgrade, looking forward to more information

Thanks Tony! Well I've learnt that its definitely going be silver, plus I think it will support some level of astrophotography using the wide angle lens, maybe Milky Way shots.

I would 3x times more for smart telescope with at least 70mm aperture, 280-350mm FL, and 8MP and with optional software feature built-in to mount to proper use it in equatorial configuration. Maybe Dwarf 5 Pro or Seestar 70EQ Pro?

Interesting. Would be nice to see a refractor vs reflector side by side comparison video on galaxies, since its galaxy season now :). On DSO I guess a 4 inch refractor has to have a similar performance to a 5 inch reflector and a 5 inch refractor a similar performance to a 6 inch reflector.

cool bananas! I still think that going to 48 mm Vs 35 would have been better since loads of filters come in that size that could be used on it ... lpro, l Xtreme etc ... or simple cls or uhs ...
as for the camera... 585 paired to say 200-250 mm FL ... ofc that would drive the costs higher... but wit EQ tracking mods ... dang I would build a mini dome to fix it under way back in my yard and call it my mini obsy ...

Thanks Chris, if they send me one I’ll try it vs the D2! So we might expect less noise, and the ability to grab more frames on one charge. An increment. I hope they keep supporting D2 users with new firmware and apps.

Hi Graham. I think in a nutshell, less noise, longer exposures, longer battery life, improved motors for better tracking, and I forgot to mention improved optical elements to get it closer to being apochromatic. I can't imagine they would stop supporting the D2, the folks at Dwarflab are too nice for that.

    I'm waiting for a SeeStar with a 585 sensor.

      Agree 100%!

I personally believe they have alienated their customer base, what needed fixing was their app, I just hope they will continue supporting the dwarf 2.

I would be surprised if they didn't continue to support the D2, that would be a suicidal move in my opinion, and the folks at DL seem far too nice for that. I'm trying to see it from their point of view in that the competition (Seestars) is romping away with it and surely the only way to stay in the game is to innovate both the hardware and software.

This is a good price, the IMX678 would cost you £299 on a ZWO camera alone. Think they may have just bested the Seestar S50 the 4K sensor.
Now that the specs are reasonable at a good price, my biggest complaint is the obvious having to upgrade an entire system for improvements compared to traditional setup (i use a Sky-Watcher 150p Virtuoso with a SvBony 705C (IMX585) camera) where you can just change things modularly.
Those who bought the Dwarf 2 wont be happy, these companies need a better business model like phone brands who let you trade in an older version when a new one is released because these devices are far too expensive to buy and discard and keep upgrading when a new version comes out and if they stop supporting older models, well, that to me would make these devices a financial risk.

Hmm I would probably never switch battery but I like it interchangable non the less because replacements/repairability - matter of principle ... so that is kinda downgrade in a way ... I do wonder why.

It will be silver so presumably daytime heating won’t be a problem. Black would not be a good choice.

Feeling sorry for people who just purchased D2 ..I won't be jumping onboard this time, not been overally impressed with the app..

I'm guessing it will be some time before people have the D3 in their hands, and as an analogy, I've just bought a mk7 VW Golf even though I know there is a Mk8. It still works and I enjoy it. I'm sure there is plenty of life and enjoyment left in the D2
My latest app upgrade has been a little crashy. Is that your complaint too? Hopefully the next update will improve things.
I think they need to innovate both the software and the hardware to stay in the game. You can bet the other smart telescope companies are working on their next upgrade and the D2 is already playing second fiddle to the Seestars.

When they came out with Dwarf 2, they said there would be no Dwarf 3.

Really? Can you find the social media post or customer support email where they stated that? You can be sure there will be a Dwarf IV, and V, or Pro, or Ultra.

And it begins, planned obsolescence. So will the oners of the D2 sell theirs and go with the next best thing? then when the D4 comes out the D5? seriously these all in ones are expensive paperweights within a year. How much do you think you'll get as a return on your D2 investment? bugger all

Built in battery, instant pass, when are manufacturers going to learn most of us who are truly into tech and our devices would rather have interchangeable batteries be it proprietary or just some frickin regular ones over crap that can go bad and can't be replaced
