I know that back in 1993 you didn't. The CD didn't even have a LYRICS booklet. ✌

I ended up buying the CD in '93 b/c of Sober and Intolerance on the radio. Didn;t know about the lyrics until YEARS later on the internet. Come to think of it, that's my experience with all Tool songs. It's always the complete musical package first, including vocals. Words and sentences come later. I kinda like it that way.

Been a fan since 93. I know the subject matter of the song, but I don't care. The music is amazing, and it is one of my top Tool songs regardless of subject matter (which is disturbing and dark AF, no question).

  • @mouseshadow5828

I think it was the music video that was banned from Mtv because it's visually disturbing, not so much for the lyrical content.
You should definitely watch all their official videos at some point. The guitarist makes all of them. They're very interesting but also very distracting.

TOOL army will circle round soon, another band that has a very dedicated fanbase, this was never my personal fave but it's a damn good song, it is a bit dark and disturbing lyrically; their music evolved from the baser realms of human emotion and experience to higher states of consciousness and awareness, sounds kinda pretentious but they honestly take their music and lyrics to spiritual levels

    • @Fuhrdaddy

Hot take but... they haven't released a good album since Lateralus IMO. 10k days sucks minus 3 or 4 songs and Maynard's vocals on the newest album are extremely underwhelming... and most of the songs are 12 min wank fests lol.

@@Fuhrdaddy nah, 10k was ok, not great but not terrible and their new album is quite something, I'm fine w/the 15 wank fest that is 7empest, it is a bit much but when the mood strikes (road trip around 2am) it's magnificent stay awake music

I subscribed to your channel after watching your Pink Floyd reactions. You come across as a real music lover, and your comments were thoughtful and accurate. A definite cut above so many others. I know this comment isn't about the video it's attached to, but I hope you will receive it as a genuine response. Regarding Floyd, watch the live version of Comfortably Numb at the Pulse concert. Possibly one of the most mind blowing live performances ever. Also, some other suggestions for you - unless of course you know them so well you can't do a reaction to them: The Who, Queen, Jethro Tull - all from the UK, all brilliant and all even better live than in the studio recordings. Anyway, good luck with your channel. I expect to see it growing rapidly!

      @barryderby 2 года назад +1

@@SalvoG I wasn't just saying it. I've watched hundreds of reactions, and most are abysmal. Some are genuine, but I've never heard anyone get Floyd right. Most talk about how relaxing their music is without considering the lyrics. Roger Waters, who split with them some years back, wrote all of their most famous songs. His father died in the war when he was a baby, and his mother was a Socialist - as is he. His lyrical obsessions are the horrors and pointlessness of war, greed, loss and madness. He wrote The Wall - about a singer descending into insanity - after he had a breakdown and spat on someone in the audience.

They have a live version that adds more to the bridge that ties into the finale.
    "show me something 4x
thought I could make it end
thought I could wash the stains away
thought I could break the circle
by slip under into your skin
    so sweet was your surrender
    we have become one
I have become a my terror
and you my precious lamb and marty"
Enter this before the final 3 lines of the track and it describes the situation much clearer.

This... was interesting. I read lyrics as I listened, too. Not sure I could handle such heavy stuff all the time. This is like a once in a very long time kind of song to listen to. Or the only time I could listen to this. I see how it can be VERY triggering to victims.

It's triggering yes but all of their music is made to trigger to spark introspection. It's one of my favorites for that reason actually. The video is so sad but people need to understand how terrible it can be so they don't allow it to happen to others and help victims when they can.

What kills me most about this song…….”….youre breathing so I guess you’re still alive….”
    Consider that.
The need to fulfill the cycle of abuse is SO strong….. whether or not the victim survives it….is IRRELEVANT.
These lyrics are brilliant …. AND disgusting….. beautifully accurate…. AND horrifying.
Personally? I simply don’t understand people that do not see the utter genius in TOOL’s music.
