It really sucks that Encanto is surrounded by bad Disney movies. People have already forgotten about it since it’s overshadowed by the bad. I LOVE Encanto and i agree with everything you said (besides what you said about politics. Representation is welcome, and It’d be nice to see representation in good movies, rather than it being a criticism people use for bad movies)

you can definitely tell encanto was created with people who were passionate about the story and what they were trying to send back to the viewer. The message behind generational trauma definitely hit home for many poc viewers , and I’m glad people respect it.

It drives me absolutely insane when people say things like “oh Disney hasn’t made a good movie in the last ten years” or “Disney has been doing nothing but remakes lately” as if Encanto wasn’t literally EVERYWHERE for the better part of 2022 and 2023. People’s lack of memory about a movie that was this popular is baffling to me, and I can only assume they are speaking in general and exempting this one, or that they just wanna hate on what’s popular cause they think it makes them cool.
Anyway, rant aside, you’re absolutely right with all your points in this video. Everything in this movie was done so well.

Not to be “that person”, but Luisa’s song is titled “Surface Pressure”, but she doesn’t actually sing those words together in the song, so I understand the confusion

How common is it for Disney songs to not be named after a lyric in the song?

Just discover your channel and honestly, I like your arguments. And I think you are quite right, Encanto make a group dynamic work. Unlike Wish, when I couldn't even remember much of Asha's friends. It's like Disney is almost scared to write songs like in their old times. Encanto is the exception thanks to the variety of tempos and styles. So each of them are memorable and unique on their own ways.

Musically, I like to compare We Dont Talk About Bruno and Knowing What I Know Now. In WDTAB, every character had their own story to tell and had very distinct verses from each other, which added to their personalities. Vs in KWIKN, the lyrics aren’t really unique to the movie nor characters and their individual styles of music is mostly the same to each other

I think with encanto it knew what it was and didn’t try to be anything else. Encanto isn’t an adventure movie it’s not some world saving quest it’s about one community and one family. They made sure to focus on establishing these relationships between characters and the character growth because encanto is a character driven movie. Also worth noting that the songs each serve a narrative purpose. Waiting on a miracle foreshadows the whole movie whilst also giving insight to mirabels inner turmoil, the family madrigal is a great opener which introduces the setting and characters whilst showing mirabels fun personality (and then they tried to copy that and failed for wish) surface pressure is all about Luisa’s struggle, we don’t talk about bruno is incredibly plot important for obvious reasons, what else can I do acts as isabelas epiphany moment which also acts as a method for her and mirabel to find common ground and leads perfectly into the climax, dos oruguitas perfectly encapsulates abuela almas grief and struggle over the years and all of you is a great finale tying back to every song that came before it. Also when it comes to characters mirabel as a main character worked really well. She’s not limited by just one trait she’s incredibly multi faceted and she bounces off each family member well! every character was portrayed as a human and not one note personalities. There’s so many little details that are in this movie that just make it better. Truly I blame the current trend of liking popular thing for one month and then acting like it’s the worst thing ever the next month (short trend cycles) for why encanto isn’t talked about as much. But I really and truly believe this is one of the best Disney movies and it deserved every ounce of its success. I still feel theres so much to be said about it. Disney themselves also ignore encanto a lot even before it released I only knew about it because people were posting clips from the theatre and it had good word of mouth. People connected with the world the story and the characters because it didn’t feel corporate it felt sincere.

I don't think we can blame being political for Disney making bad movies. "Encanto" is good because it has passion put into it. Talented people working on it who had full creative control over that project.
    The real problem is greed.
"Wish" creators had so many great concept ideas for the story and characters, but executives forced them to make changes "that will make more money".
"Frozen 2" was so rushed that they didn't even have a script figured out when they started production.
"Strange World" was boring as hell because they had to play it safe. They couldn't even make "too much" representation there.
Movies can be good, whether they have political themes or not, but it all depends on the people making them.

I agree, money is always going to be the main driving force behind any movie put out. But with that, Disney also knows how much influence they have over people and their perceptions. And I personally don’t think that’s it’s their place to use their influence to tell people what should be normal and what shouldn’t. Especially when they know that a lot of impressionable kids will be watching their movies.

It takes about five years for Disney to make an animated movie. so if they are going to start emulating Encanto’s success, we’re going to have to sit through three more (most likely) bad movies (as the movies we see now started development before Encanto released.) And you can’t blame solely Chapek for these, as he wasn’t CEO until 2020 and Wish started development in 2018. Because he was only here for three years, he was not around for the full length of one movie development, so every movie that has come out for the past three years? and the next three years? Has been meddled by both Iger and Chapek at various stages.
Currently, the next three releases are just sequels. Moana (2024, and this one is different because it was originally a TV show), Zootopia II (2025, so developed in 2020), and Frozen III (2026, developed in 2021). We MIGHT get a bad movie in 2027, as 2022 is the last year Chapek was CEO, but that’s also the year after Encanto came out. The 2027 movie is Schrödinger's Movie.
(Maybe I should make my own video. Bahaha.)

Yeah, I’m not even opposed to the idea of sequels. As long as they do something original.

Sounds about right. Tbh I haven’t even seen wish yet. It left theaters before I got a chance to see it and now I’m just waiting for the physical release.

not to mention knowing what I know now as a song just doesn’t work. I’ve seen a video analyzing it and it’s oh yikes. Wdtab works because each verse is so different each melody is so different and it all relates to the character and their story! then it all combines and it’s just so satisfying! with wish ashas friends (I forgot their names) act like a reference for seven dwarves and that’s it. I cant name a single personality trait about them outside of the one with the big nose is sneezy and sneezes a lot. But I can tell you that Dolores madrigal has the gift of superhearing and foreshadows that bruno is in the walls, she also secretly likes isabelas boyfriend and got told he would be out of reach. Dolores has less screentime than ashas main friend yet the audience learn so much more about Dolores despite her being a minor character.

I don't think Encato is a perfect movie. Far from it. It has a lot of flaws but aldough it's not Diseny's greatest work ever, what matters in the end is that it's a nice watch. It takes you along with the ride and lets you enjoy yourself even if there are a few bumps. Overall I can say that this film does have a heart which is not to always the case these days, not only in Disney movies but with Hillywood in general.

The Disney stuff seem to end with this in the universal stuff seems to start with the the bad guys trolls 3 is the better version of wish because it's the best of the trolls movies ignore electric dragon 505 for hating the trolls movies now even though I still like wish trolls 4 would be better in Frozen 3 I could be wrong Moana 2 I would say it's not as good but it will get nominated with inside out 2 but it will lose to Kung Fu Panda 4 having DreamWorks their first Oscar since the first Shrek movie Aardman doesn't count because they have Wallace and gromit the curse of the rabbit because Disney's getting better but they're still getting destroyed by their rival universal for being their new version since the open with epic universe I like both companies it's like the Nickelodeon and cartoon Network rivalry all over again in which company they prefer I know the trolls movie feel like the Powerpuff girls for universal King peppy is very similar to professor puss in Boots the last the wish do donkey spin-off maybe I am weasel Shrek & donkey are cow & chicken
