Out of all these places, Thanh Tam has been around the longest. They used to operate the billiard hall around the corner, that was my favorite haunt back in the early 90s, a lot of good memories there. Their banh mi xiu mai takes me back to my childhood in Vietnam every time I eat it. These other newer places just don’t measure up. Another place that I used to frequent is Tan Hoang Huong back when they only have one location at the corner of Edinger and Euclid. Now they changed that place and expanded into a chain and it’s not the same anymore. Banh Mi Cali is another Little Saigon’s institution, I remember back in the 80s it was the place for banh mi and che. They are a chain now, but they still operate the same way. Poor service and lousy food. 😆
Interesting review. Carrot & Daikon does make a tasty banh mi. I live here in Westminster and my go-to place for banh mi is THH (Tan Hoang Huong). There are 3-4 of them in Orange County and they all do a great job at a fair price. Conversely, the most popular banh mi franchise is also the worst tasting - Lee's Sandwiches (65+ locations). So bad that I wouldn't even eat their banh mi even for free.
How did you come to select these out of the hundreds of bánh mì joints in OC? Did any of these places paid or offer any payments for you to list in this vid?
Nope! Nobody paid me to review their restaurant. I have had many banh mis in OC throughout the years, and you can see in the video I paid for all of the banh mis myself. It all comes down to personal preference and if you still don't trust my opinion on this (which is totally fine!), there's another very reliable source you could find: words of mouth. If you ask, the OC locals will probably give you 2-3 of these banh mi spots! Hope you enjoy!
Good banh mi review. My favorite is always the dac biet and 2nd is xiu mai. Perhaps you could do a follow-up video on banh mi and order xiu mai and grilled chicken? Also, more vdos on VN food, please 💕😋
Excellent channel! 👍✨ I’ve been frequenting Westminster/GG since the 90s and haven’t been to these spots, except for the new’ish Carrot&Daikon. I must try the others! My usual go-to spot is always Che Cali (the OG, old taco-shop lookin one)… nothing special, but consistent and good!
Maybe show them my food videos and hopefully they might change their minds? 😊 a little of eating outside never hurts anyone but also a good bonding time
Great observations! I did order 2 from them, one special and one crispy pork. The quality was super disappointing... The crispy pork was cold and flavorless while the special banh mi was downright bad (stale baguette, ridiculous thick cut of jalapenos...) It ended up not making the list and became our outro spot.
I love bahn mi Saigon especially their crispy pork belly. I tried carrot and daikon I didn’t like same as my viet husband didn’t like their food either.
These bakeries are all in Little Saigon area so their pricings are quite competitive. There are $7 banh mi spots but people would end up going to the cheaper ones bc there are too many!
I did film myself eating there but wasn’t too impressed with their special and crispy pork belly. Which banh mi should I get from Pickle next time besides those two?
Yummi is my personal favorite (when you look for something close to banh mi Huynh Hoa in Saigon), Carrot and Daikon for their crispy pork, and Thanh Tam for their fish cake/spam egg banh mi... all great options all around!
Haha your choice, Yummy is my least favorite. It tastes off there. However csrrots and daikon is one of the best as well as Pickle on brookhurst. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing ! Great content and very informative.
Thank you for your support! More food content is coming your way :)

Thanh Tam is so good I could eat it everyday... Gotta try their xiu mai banh mi now that you recommend it. Thanks!
Just subscribed! Awesome video, I love Banh Mi they are so delicious.
Glad you enjoy! And thank you for your support
Subsribed! Looking forward to the intel on all the great food in Little Saigon/Orange county!
Greatly appreciate your support! Crazy food ventures in OC are coming your way
THH is the best! We eat every week❤👍👏
Seems like I’ve missed THH banh mi unfortunately 😅
Nice I have to try them All soon!!!
Please do! And don’t forget to let me know which one is your fav 😁
Interesting culinary trip in Little Saigon around Los Angeles county~ That banh mi sandiwich, we have tried it in San Fransisco years ago. 🥖🍖🌿🌿
Its not LA county its OC
If you have a chance to visit Little Saigon, I wholeheartedly recommend you try these spots out!
Never confuse OC to LA county to a OC native, they completely lose their 💩

Franchises are a no-go for me when it comes to food. Nothing beats a mom-and-pop shop!

My favorite is Pickle Banh Mi. I've tried banh mi from all those spots in Little Saigon except for Yummy.
Yummy is so very good!
Good banh mi review. My favorite is always the dac biet and 2nd is xiu mai. Perhaps you could do a follow-up video on banh mi and order xiu mai and grilled chicken? Also, more vdos on VN food, please 💕😋
Xiu mai is my childhood favorite! And yes there will be more Viet food videos coming soon!
i grew up in little saigon and i still visit every so often and the first banh mi spot that came to mind was carrot and daikon LOL
Carrot is a real deal, but do you like any other spots?
I love ❤️ bánh mì
Thanh you for your video
Thank you for watching!
Thats great Mike 🥖🥖🥖
For banh mi I like the lemon grass beef at Mr. Baguette, but I will try some of the places you recommend. I also subscribed, so keep up the good work.
The Saigon Bacon at Mr. Baguette is really good too. Thank you for the sub and welcome to my channel!
just subscribed, good show
Thank you for your support 🙏😁
Excellent channel! 👍✨

These spots are relatively new, especially Yummy. Give it a try when you can!
Bro $5.95 for Banh Mi is best deal especially in Cali. In portland they going over $7 now. Some hipster spots charging $15
We have all seen that 20 dollar banh mi with homemade mayonnaise at those hipster spots 😆
Just subscribed to your channel!
Thank you and welcome! 🤗
There's so many Vietnamese food spots in OC especially Little Saigon. Hopefully you'll be able to highlight more of them.
- mango
That’s exactly what I have in mind. Do let me know which spots you would like to see too!
I have to rewatch when visiting hubby side of the family. They don’t go out to eat so last visit was horrible
Maybe show them my food videos and hopefully they might change their minds? 😊 a little of eating outside never hurts anyone but also a good bonding time
Just subscribed ! I always go to banh mi Saigon because the buy 2 get 1 free deal
Thank you for your support!
To Mike Tran would you tell me how much for a bánh mỉ Thanh Tâm cost?
my mistake actually I mean bánh mì chả cá though. thanks.
I included the names and prices for each banh mi in the bottom right corner every time they come up!
@@miketttran Sorry Mike
Why were you at Pickle at the end of the video but didn’t order anything from them?
Great observations! I did order 2 from them, one special and one crispy pork. The quality was super disappointing... The crispy pork was cold and flavorless while the special banh mi was downright bad (stale baguette, ridiculous thick cut of jalapenos...) It ended up not making the list and became our outro spot.
I never seen chitterings on menu there. Whats it called in Vietnamese?
It's their new item on the menu (for a few months now) In Vietnamese it's called Pha Lau banh mi. You should try it out!
I love bahn mi Saigon especially their crispy pork belly. I tried carrot and daikon I didn’t like same as my viet husband didn’t like their food either.
You should try the crispy pork over at Yummy Bakery too!
We would think that cost of living in California would be more than the Washington, D.C. area but the bahn mi from Bahn Mi DC here is about $7 each.
These bakeries are all in Little Saigon area so their pricings are quite competitive. There are $7 banh mi spots but people would end up going to the cheaper ones bc there are too many!
why no pickle banh mi review :(
I did film myself eating there but wasn’t too impressed with their special and crispy pork belly. Which banh mi should I get from Pickle next time besides those two?
Try vo sandwich and pickle bang mi in garden grove
yummy ok! but carrot and Daikon no question is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is very good yes! And they have a huge menu too
Been looking for a Huynh Hoa copycat, I think Yummy nailed it. Thanks
Hope you enjoy! I would not say it's 100% similar to Huynh Hoa, but that's probably the closest in OC hehe
I have been to most of those Bánh Mi places. Taste delicious! Cannot wait to go back soon. What is your favorite one?
Yummi is my personal favorite (when you look for something close to banh mi Huynh Hoa in Saigon), Carrot and Daikon for their crispy pork, and Thanh Tam for their fish cake/spam egg banh mi... all great options all around!
Bánh Mi is one of my favorite foods, as you can tell from my RUclips channel name. 😊
I remember back in the "90. U could get banh mi buy 2 get 1 free for $3 in Asian garden mall.
Wow... And I thought $5 for a banh mi now is already cheap...
before Covid I could get 2 banh mi in Dallas for $5
I would also try Tasty Sandwich on bushard/westminster
Will do! Thanks for the rec!
A very good video. I really like it
I wish we have Bánh mì festival like in VN
I never know Vietnam has Banh Mi festival... When are where should this take place?
最愛法國麵包
Try Vo Sandwich and Pickle banh mi in garden grove. Also Mama Cha Ca … bang mi cha ca.
Heard a lot of talks about Mama… gonna try it soon! Thanks for the rec 😊
Banh Mi Cho Cu Bakery on Magnolia and Hazard is one of the best. Their baguette is really good, you guys should try.
They do have solid baguettes!
I think Saigon is the best!
Saigon is also a good deli with diverse food and snacks too!
Phuoc loc tho ❤
Carrot and Daikon, the last spot, is the real deal.
Personally I think they're all great spots!
❤❤❤
Lily bakery is the best, best coffee and banh mi dac biet.
Thank you for the rec! Will definitely try Lily's next time
Yummy is the best banh mi in GG. Gives you the best bang for your money 💰 😊
I’m glad you agree! Great crispy pork and cold cut banh mis they have
@@miketttran the spam and egg banh mi is my favorite
Banh mi o Little Saigon, OC rat la zdo. Phai noi la may tiem nay khong co biet lam banh mi!
I tried lots of places . Bang mi Saigon 168 isn’t good at all
I wasn't impressed either myself
id go to every single one of them and order all of the subs
Make sure you bring cash bc a lot of them is cash only!
Spam! No thanks. However, I do love those sandwiches
You’ll be surprised how good spam is in a banh mi!
Haha your choice, Yummy is my least favorite. It tastes off there. However csrrots and daikon is one of the best as well as Pickle on brookhurst. Cheers!
Carrot got the best crispy pork hands down!
Chit’ling, we don’t say the “ter” in the middle of chitterling.
Oh wow... I just repeated how Google told me to pronounce haha
@@miketttran Google is probably right 😆, but as Americans we mispronounced a lot of things and whatever is popular is what we do.
wtf is ba mi 👎😂
WTF! Wake up and smell the bánh mì 🥖 😭
WTF! Wake up and smell the bánh mì 🥖😂👍
your review is alright, except you never mention prices. Big different and big mistake.
Prices and names of the banh mis come up on the bottom right corner everytime they get introduced. Cheers!
Learn how to say it right. It is banh mi not bang mee
Plz don’t teach me how to speak my mother tongue it’s cringe 😬 Watch the video and you’ll see me talk to the vendors in fluent Vietnamese
