Riyot, I think you have the gift of interviewing and also the skill and the knowledge (you do your homework before you meet the subject) to sustain critical questions after questions. The only thing that is missing is listening to the subject to speak and respond to the questions you are presenting. The subject needs an opportunity to answer to the questions you are asking. You come across like a dictator. If you want to make a difference in our country, please try to use the same fire to the leaders of our country. Those are the people that you want to hold accountable to their word and deed.
I'm an eritrean,when i was a student amharic was my favourte subject so that i can speak,listen,& write amharic,I saw some tedys interviews included Dr.bereket h/s.so what Dr.fikre wrote is very controversial history.why it's controversial Dr.fikire try to unite amara & oromo to fight to the current regime.otherwise this is political motives book.
You displayed an amazing composure, Dr. Fikre Tolossa. That is very nice of you. Even if some of the questions were expected and reasonable given the book you wrote, Tewodros's delivery was very poor and unethical.
Thank you, this is a lesson to others who decides to write garbage without research. It is insult to our Ethiopian historians who take years to find facts and attempt to a write a genuine history. My suggestion to the writer is to rename the book as historical fiction, or sub title it as historical fiction. The interviewer did nothing other than ask questions but the writer has not disputed the questions because he knows the journalist is right in this case!! He stood corrected!!

yihun shewalem It's uncommon in our culture to intellectually inquire and reach into consensus on certain discourse. what I appreciated was the intent to deconstruct biases in the presented book. I would also believe Teddy could have used less offending and respectful techniques to do that. Hope he ll learn this as he eventually develop through.
The first part of the interview about the guest's new book is really good and includes valid criticism by the interviewer. The rest is crap and looks more like an attack on the guests credibility based on a small piece of his work than anything else. As far as I know being a good interviewer requires patience to let your guest finish explaining their thoughts before jumping to the next question. In this case the interviewer keeps launching questions and insults one after another with out giving his guest a chance to respond to any of them completely. I respect Dr Fikre Tolosa for staying composed throughout this largely embarrassing performance by the interviewer. All in all its a good example for young journalists on what to do and what not to do as an interviewer.

I do not question Dr. Fikre Tolosa’s love of Ethiopia, but the historical claims he often made in his pieces and books. I have the feeling those assertions were emanated out of his emotional wishes and/or immense love of Ethiopia. History writing is primarily and profoundly predicated on, at least, four congenial demonstrable elements, but never on sectarian or dogmatic like claims. If, for instance, Dr. Fikre used a line in his writing/book, he is required (professionally) to validate that very line: the fact Jesus was in Ethiopia.

I have read each and every one of the comments regarding Tedy's interview of Dr. Fikre Tolossa's fanciful book and his lightweight, even downright absurd poetry. The climax for any serious observer was when Teddy cornered him on his main source and forced him to admit that he had not even seen the original text. Surprisingly, more than 98% of those who claim they have watched the program have given negative comments. It is not surprising considering the level of their intellect judged from their trifling and petty critiques. After all, birds of feather flock together! Just keep on. HARDtalk in the UK and 60 Minutes in the US have also confounded a slew of their naive and misguided audiences and have, as a result of their perseverance, become household names with tens of millions of people tuning to them and making them the most popular TV programs on the entire planet.
the interviewer is unprofessional and rude. I have never heard of this book before but I will definitely buy and read it now. The writer handeled himself well around this paid agent of TPLF. The interviewer tried hard to discredit the professor with planed attack. Interviewer : Please listen ! When you speak you are only transmitting what you know. If you can listen earnestly , you can learn something. God gave you 2 ears to listen. The only way you can converse on a two way is if you LISTEN or let someone finish what he or she has to say. You have a long way to go my friend. Dear Teddy, I think the peoples who are commenting below do misunderstood you. This is a type of talk that have hard and tough questions in which the guest (interviewee) should respond boldly. I can mention, the "UpFront" of Mehdi Hassan-Aljazeera and "BBC hard talks". I don't see the disrespect and the unmannerly behind it. Since it's not accustomed in Ethiopian culture of journalism, the negative shocks are expected. I would say keep your good work, and you are the one who broke the usual legacy of journalism which takes only positive vibes and appreciations. we must adhere and endorse that, this type of talks do exist and vital for both readers, listeners and the interviewee. This show reminds me of the BBC Hardtalk mostly designed for sensitive world affairs. I admire the boldness of the journalist to challenge the guest. As it went further, it just became so personal in humiliating Dr. Fikre Tolossa. Theodros lacks professionalism, experience and respect. Interrupting the guest every now and then and making fun of the poems written by the Professor was by any standard out of the norm. I studied in Russia and I remember many students struggling to speak the language fluently let alone writing a poem. I recently bought 2 books from Amazon written in english by Dr.Tolossa and was amazed by his talent. In regard to providing historical evidence, as far as he mentioned the source book, Dr.Tolossa should not have been expected to see the original. In this case, he went further in explaining 'the book of Enoch" only available at Ethiopian Orthodox Church. This is what many conspiracy theorists here in the US refer it as a source for their arguments. I read a book called "Ethiopia and The Origin of Civilization" by John Jackson written based on anthropology, Paleontology and archeological facts shows that Ethiopia covers all the areas west and east of Indian Ocean and our history goes back all the way back to 15,000BC.This shows the likelihood of the facts mentioned by Dr.Tolossa to be accepted as being valid. Theses were the kind of facts he was about to talk but Theodros did not gave him the chance to talk. Eventually, I would like to conclude by admiring Dr.Fikre Tolossa's humility and patience. what i see from this interview is the true positive feelings that come out of the very nice person, Dr. Fikre Tollossa!!! 4 years ago when I watched this interview I couldn't understand why Teddy was so rude to the Professor. Teddy called the book "Fiction based unsubstantiated crap". And 4 years later, when I watch it again, it makes so much sense why he was rude on the interview.
It is my first time that I came to know your Program „ Riyot“. I found your interview with Dr. Fikre very interesting and informative. The issues you raised to Dr. Fikre were essential. His clarifications did not satisfy my expectations. I felt many of the questions and comments you directed to him were mine. I have now a better understanding and insight of his work. One can argue and ask him again and again to find out what he would like to forward to the audience. You have prepared your program time effective, good structured, meaningful questions exploring for more findings. The outcome was reasonable but narrow. I read the numerous comments stated to your interview. I am sad, many were unhappy because Dr. Fikre could not justify his claims as an historian, a poet, a play writer etc. Dr. Fikre experienced a different interview modus in your program than those he used to have in the past. One can go to his self posted videos and advertising texts. These are filled with words and pictures; more convincing and credible substances are not to discover out of them. I mentioned earlier that many of your audience were not happy on how Dr. Fikre was interviewed in your program. To be objective I watched your interview with Prof. Yonas Endale. Your questions aimed for more information and clarification without mental overloading and confusing the audience. You were very good prepared for the program. I learnt very much from the replies and remarks of your guest. I am proud to know such a highly educated and a friendly, sympathetic and a very harmonic personality. The subject you had with Prof. Yonas was not controversial, where as the topics with Dr. Fikre were many in number and your extended questions for clarification have been understood as interruption. No wonder that Dr. Fikre at present fills discomfort; see varies papers directed to him at Ethiomedia and Ethiopia Zare/Nege. He is challenged by many scholars and intellectuals demanding proofs for his assertions in his latest book, the true origin ... To conclude my statement the pro and cons comments of your audience must not be political oriented; one has to be responsible for what he/she writes and say! Clarification and proof must be delivered to the public when necessary. Not to be tagged as an enemy of Ethiopia, for the sack of clarification I would like to say a few points: I am a very much hearted and annoyed person, like millions of Ethiopians to have heard the history of Ethiopia to be limited to 100 years, the common symbols of Ethiopians, our Flag to be called a rage, one ethnic to be seen and treated above all the others etc. I am interested in the history of Ethiopia that is scientifically researched, elaborated and documented by reliable professional Ethiopians. Riyot, I think you have the gift of interviewing and also the skill and the knowledge (you do your homework before you meet the subject) to sustain critical questions after questions. The only thing that is missing is listening to the subject to speak and respond to the questions you are presenting. The subject needs an opportunity to answer to the questions you are asking. You come across like a dictator. If you want to make a difference in our country, please try to use the same fire to the leaders of our country. Those are the people that you want to hold accountable to their word and deed.

I'm an eritrean,when i was a student amharic was my favourte subject so that i can speak,listen,& write amharic,I saw some tedys interviews included Dr.bereket h/s.so what Dr.fikre wrote is very controversial history.why it's controversial Dr.fikire try to unite amara & oromo to fight to the current regime.otherwise this is political motives book.
Tewodros is very smart historian, may not be a great journalist. He is asking for evidence why is people hating on him?! Go Teddy!
You displayed an amazing composure, Dr. Fikre Tolossa. That is very nice of you. Even if some of the questions were expected and reasonable given the book you wrote, Tewodros's delivery was very poor and unethical.
Thank you, this is a lesson to others who decides to write garbage without research. It is insult to our Ethiopian historians who take years to find facts and attempt to a write a genuine history. My suggestion to the writer is to rename the book as historical fiction, or sub title it as historical fiction. The interviewer did nothing other than ask questions but the writer has not disputed the questions because he knows the journalist is right in this case!! He stood corrected!!

yihun shewalem It's uncommon in our culture to intellectually inquire and reach into consensus on certain discourse. what I appreciated was the intent to deconstruct biases in the presented book. I would also believe Teddy could have used less offending and respectful techniques to do that. Hope he ll learn this as he eventually develop through.

The first part of the interview about the guest's new book is really good and includes valid criticism by the interviewer. The rest is crap and looks more like an attack on the guests credibility based on a small piece of his work than anything else. As far as I know being a good interviewer requires patience to let your guest finish explaining their thoughts before jumping to the next question. In this case the interviewer keeps launching questions and insults one after another with out giving his guest a chance to respond to any of them completely. I respect Dr Fikre Tolosa for staying composed throughout this largely embarrassing performance by the interviewer. All in all its a good example for young journalists on what to do and what not to do as an interviewer.

This interview is very neat and unique. The interviewer is eloquent, articulate, and a very brilliant man. Stephen Sackur is well known for his stubbornness and asks hard questions on BBC but Teddy is immensely peculiar and gifted.

I do not question Dr. Fikre Tolosa’s love of Ethiopia, but the historical claims he often made in his pieces and books. I have the feeling those assertions were emanated out of his emotional wishes and/or immense love of Ethiopia. History writing is primarily and profoundly predicated on, at least, four congenial demonstrable elements, but never on sectarian or dogmatic like claims. If, for instance, Dr. Fikre used a line in his writing/book, he is required (professionally) to validate that very line: the fact Jesus was in Ethiopia.

The fact of the matter is that his thesis is not supported by any credible source. By trying to defend the indefensible he made a baffoon of himself. The interview was an onslaught and quite painful to watch.

the interviewer is unprofessional and rude. I have never heard of this book before but I will definitely buy and read it now. The writer handeled himself well around this paid agent of TPLF. The interviewer tried hard to discredit the professor with planed attack. My favorite part was when the writer said "I don't mean you but people say such things" recognising the people behind the idiotic interviewer

This interview is very neat and unique. The interviewer is eloquent, articulate, and a very brilliant man. Stephen Sackur is well known for his stubbornness and asks hard questions on BBC but Teddy is immensely peculiar and gifted. Choma Rass Neh that's why is hard for you to understand..

He did interview him the right way but it s unusual interview in Ethiopia. Mostly Ethiopian journalists don't ask detail about what they ask because they think they are disrespecting their guests.

what makes this show interesting, diffrent from the other ethiopian interview/ show is the arguing part, i don't mean arguing just for the sake of it, but discussing/ challenging on some intelectual level, by the way l like dr. Fikre, he didn't seem angry/mistreated, but a little bit shaken, may be he didn' expect... otherwise he handled it fairly okay. tell you what think of the amharic equivalent of bbc hard talk english bro!

Interviewer : Please listen ! When you speak you are only transmitting what you know. If you can listen earnestly , you can learn something. God gave you 2 ears to listen. The only way you can converse on a two way is if you LISTEN or let someone finish what he or she has to say. You have a long way to go my friend. By listening you will show your guest you RESPECT them.
Dear Teddy, I think the peoples who are commenting below do misunderstood you. This is a type of talk that have hard and tough questions in which the guest (interviewee) should respond boldly. I can mention, the "UpFront" of Mehdi Hassan-Aljazeera and "BBC hard talks". I don't see the disrespect and the unmannerly behind it. Since it's not accustomed in Ethiopian culture of journalism, the negative shocks are expected. I would say keep your good work, and you are the one who broke the usual legacy of journalism which takes only positive vibes and appreciations. we must adhere and endorse that, this type of talks do exist and vital for both readers, listeners and the interviewee. Keep it up bro.

This show reminds me of the BBC Hardtalk mostly designed for sensitive world affairs. I admire the boldness of the journalist to challenge the guest. As it went further, it just became so personal in humiliating Dr. Fikre Tolossa. Theodros lacks professionalism, experience and respect. Interrupting the guest every now and then and making fun of the poems written by the Professor was by any standard out of the norm. I studied in Russia and I remember many students struggling to speak the language fluently let alone writing a poem. I recently bought 2 books from Amazon written in english by Dr.Tolossa and was amazed by his talent.
In regard to providing historical evidence, as far as he mentioned the source book, Dr.Tolossa should not have been expected to see the original. In this case, he went further in explaining 'the book of Enoch" only available at Ethiopian Orthodox Church. This is what many conspiracy theorists here in the US refer it as a source for their arguments. I read a book called "Ethiopia and The Origin of Civilization" by John Jackson written based on anthropology, Paleontology and archeological facts shows that Ethiopia covers all the areas west and east of Indian Ocean and our history goes back all the way back to 15,000BC.This shows the likelihood of the facts mentioned by Dr.Tolossa to be accepted as being valid. Theses were the kind of facts he was about to talk but Theodros did not gave him the chance to talk.
Eventually, I would like to conclude by admiring Dr.Fikre Tolossa's humility and patience. I also expect EBS to fix such inconvenience in future.

Teddy called the book "Fiction based unsubstantiated crap".

It is my first time that I came to
know your Program „ Riyot“. I found your interview with Dr. Fikre very interesting and informative. The issues you raised to Dr. Fikre were essential. His clarifications did not satisfy my
expectations. I felt many of the questions and comments you directed to him
were mine. I have now a better understanding and insight of his work. One can
argue and ask him again and again to find out what he would like to forward to
the audience. You have prepared your program time effective, good structured,
meaningful questions exploring for more findings. The outcome was reasonable
but narrow. I read the numerous comments stated to your interview. I am sad,
many were unhappy because Dr. Fikre could not justify his claims as an historian,
a poet, a play writer etc. Dr. Fikre experienced a different interview modus in
your program than those he used to have in the past. One can go to his self posted
videos and advertising texts. These are filled with words and pictures; more convincing
and credible substances are not to discover out of them. I mentioned earlier
that many of your audience were not happy on how Dr. Fikre was interviewed in
your program. To be objective I watched your interview with Prof. Yonas Endale.
Your questions aimed for more information and clarification without mental
overloading and confusing the audience. You were very good prepared for the
program. I learnt very much from the replies and remarks of your guest. I am
proud to know such a highly educated and a friendly, sympathetic and a very
harmonic personality. The subject you had with Prof. Yonas was not controversial,
where as the topics with Dr. Fikre were many in number and your extended
questions for clarification have been understood as interruption. No wonder
that Dr. Fikre at present fills discomfort; see varies papers directed to him
at Ethiomedia and Ethiopia Zare/Nege. He is challenged by many scholars and
intellectuals demanding proofs for his assertions in his latest book, the true
origin ... To conclude my statement the pro and cons comments of your audience
must not be political oriented; one has to be responsible for what he/she
writes and say! Clarification and proof must be delivered to the public when
necessary. Not to be tagged as an enemy of Ethiopia, for the sack of
clarification I would like to say a few points: I am a very much hearted and annoyed
person, like millions of Ethiopians to have heard the history of Ethiopia to be
limited to 100 years, the common symbols of Ethiopians, our Flag to be called a
rage, one ethnic to be seen and treated above all the others etc. I am interested
in the history of Ethiopia that is scientifically researched, elaborated and
documented by reliable professional Ethiopians. I don’t think we have to go
4000 or 5000 year back to dig in our past history to heal the pains of our last
50 years or rethink the importance of our unity and sovereignty.My best regards
