As a child I loved to draw. However, by age thirteen I gave it up. My family berated everything I did so I didn't want them to remember that I cared about drawing. They crushed my confidence. Because of that, I let FIFTY YEARS go by without drawing! Now I am back and ready to learn to draw well! PLEASE don't do as I did. Don't let others ruin your passion for art!
Brandon I really enjoyed this video. I was with you for part of your journey. I too have changed my art through the years. I started out with water colors, then went to drawing , I tried Sumi-e for awhile. Now I am working with oil pastels. Too me it is interesting the roads we take on your art travels.
@SchaeferArt PLEASE HELP I am trying to draw my cats like you did and it's a lot harder than I thought WHY are things coming out in such basic too rounded blob like shapes instead pf finely detailed like when youbdrew your cats? It's making me very DEPRESSED and ANGRY. Hope you can respond when you can. Oh and about the discord question also. Thanks.
@@leif1075 How would you like me to help? I understand you're struggling with your drawings, but bro - how much time a week do you spend drawing? Please answer.
@SchaeferArt Thanks for answering. It varies depending on my mood. Usually jjst a few minutes honestly. I don't know any thing you can think of why it turns out like that. Sometimes also need to vent.
You spend only a few minutes a week and expect your sketches or drawings to come out well. That’s the issue right there. Lack of practice man. You need many more hours of work before you can begin complaining.
I love your pen and ink drawings with color accents. Any interest in trying gouache? (My first try with gouache went poorly, LOL.) Colored pencils? My journey over the decades started with acrylic, then graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, mixed media with gouache & colored pencil, oil, and am now playing around with mixed media collage combined with drawing/painting on top. So many phases...
Thank you Diane, I actually enjoy the ink with color too the most. Ah.. I actually have tried gouache a few times and I do have some. I actually enjoy using it on some thicker toned paper I have. I don't think I mentioned gouache in the video though haha, oops :) And wow, you've tried a lot of stuff, that's really cool to hear! I was always afraid to try something new but nowadays I'm trying to be more open. But I do enjoy using limited materials haha.
Brandon do you have any drawings using pen & ink & charcoal. I did this style back in high school and loved it. I drew my neighbors house and it was beautiful. My art teacher asked me if he could keep it and when i told him yes he asked me to sign it. I do wish sometimes that i had kept it.
I do not, but it sounds like an interesting combination. I've rarely used charcoal and I've decided I'm not the biggest fan of using due to how messy it is. Just not something I enjoy too often haha. Wish you had a photo to share of it, but that's generous of you to give it to him :)
@@SchaeferArt Your not the only one that wishes I had a photo of it, as I do as well. Although I wish I had kept it sometimes I definitely would not have created the beautiful drawing without his encouragement because I did not have that at home back then. I literally gave up on it several times and he kept me at it. I learned so much from him back then and have even tried locating him with no luck so far. I was grateful to him as well as took pride in the work I had done and felt that it would not have been quite as beautiful as it was without him which is why I did give it to him. We may not all know or believe in our own abilities when another can see it in us. He was an extraordinary Art Teacher whom I was blessed to have met. After he left a lady took his place I took her art class as well as teachers aide for one class for her also, freshman are little flirts I can say without a doubt lol. She was also an extraordinary Art teacher, I miss them both of all my teachers i had.

Thanks for sharing. May I ask why your family berated your work??

Thank you, I remember haha. Glad you've been experimenting as well :) It's a lot fun for sure.
Go Dog Go was my favourite book when I was a kid and I still love the illustrations. I enjoyed this video and the raccoon turned out lovely.
One of my favorites too. I always liked to draw from it :)
Thanks so much for sharing this video in particular.
You are welcome!

I'm 33 actually haha, I just didn't think about it when I put it in the title :)
