Same boat here. Been seeing Kaho, the guitarrist on the Gibson/Epiphone replays, where they get a bunch of diff musicians to play covers to promote their gear, and i always loved her style, so i recently decided to check her band and its been a really pleasant experience. Looking forward to see where they go after this renaissance of sorts, it's a very competitive space nowdays, but they seem to believe in what they have.
Thanks for taking note of my suggestions, going off your reaction to these I reckon you'll definitely enjoy the other two songs I suggested in that comment. Can't really comment on their new album yet, as I'm still waiting on my copy arriving from CD-Japan (that order is being held up by the Unholy Orpheus record which is released May 29th). Now onto the name stuff, Fleufleu was formed in December of 2015 by Canaco & Mimori (if you look up their Soundcloud there's some really early demos of Shitano Namaede Yobanaide and Spica from 6/7yrs ago) and from what I can tell I believe they were initially signed to a management/songwriting deal as a two piece (there's live footage/photos online with different support guitar and bass players), Wakazaemon actually was their billed support bassist for at least a decent chunk of 2017-18 (it's difficult to find exact dates online). The Fleufleu YT channel has existed since 2012, but I think it was originally Canaco's personal music account. Kaho joined mid-2017 (initially as a support member before becoming permanent in August 2019) and Ayano was the last permanent member to join in January 2020 (I first saw footage of the band in a cover of Platform Syndrome by Scandal that they uploaded to YT in May 2020). Not sure if Ayano was initially a support member also, but she's also been half of duo Unwave since 2017/18. The band released one album, Fleuraison (as you probably deduced from your video description, Canaco is a bit of a Francophile) and a follow up single in August 2022 but neither gained a massive amount of traction (the album briefly hit number 15 on the Oricon daily rankings on launch). They gigged pretty heavily, including a bunch of co-headlining shows with TRiDENT. At the end of 2022, their agency/management 'rayznotes' (who appears to own all their publishing rights and the band name) effectively told the band they were dropping them at the end of the tour, with their fans being told on 21st December 2022. The band were understandably upset (especially Canaco) and played their final show as Fleufleu on 31st January 2023 and appeared to break up. But they then re-emerged independently as Faulieu in March 2023, at first it seemed like a completely clean break with no song material brought across, but they've slowly re-introduced some old songs into their sets but with newer arrangements (not sure if they've made an agreement with rayznotes or the new versions count differently for publishing purposes).
This has given me more to think about. Info on rayznotes is limited but they look like more than an agency. Seems to me that fleuefleu didn't fit their timeline. To be fair, eight years is more than some get. But the band is obviously talented. I relate to them. Not the talent part ^_^ but having your corporate bosses decide your work, your passion doesn't line up with their numbers. Then one day you're about to do a show only to find out it will be your last. And that is a terrible feeling. I'm sure there is more to it beyond my surface level analysis of what happened. I really hope they get big.
