I think it's because the piano tends to be more suited to anime-style "feels" than electric guitar shredding. It's hard to explain, because the electric guitar (it's my main instrument as well) can definitely communicate sadness and nostalgia and whatnot (search John Petrucci Best of Times) but I feel like the addition of acoustic sounds to your guitar collection might help a lot. :)
