I was a kid of the 70s and I grew up with Ovaltine. I LOVED it. It came in a dark brown round glass jar, with a wide lid. It must have been Chocolate Malt one, because it was chocolate-flavored, with a strong malt flavor. We drank it both cold and hot. We also had Nestle's Quick, and 'Bosco' chocolate syrup, which came in a tall glass bottle. 'Bosco' was also used over ice cream sometime, but we loved to make glasses of cold chocolate milk with it.
My mother only bought Ovaltine when we were kids and we loved it. Today I always keep the regular malted flavor in my cabinet and add it to chocolate cookie dough and sometimes I add it into a cake when I'm preparing the batter and I also keep the chocolate malted on hand because I sometimes sprinkle it on top of vanilla ice cream or mix extra into a small amount of milk to make a sauce to pour over the ice cream. Yes I go overboard sometimes but at my age I feel I have earned the right to splurge just like I've earned every grey hair on my head.
We had both nesquik and rich choco ovaltine. I preferred rich choco Ovaltine myself whereas my brothers preferred nesquik 😅 I've never been a fan of any malt flavored things but its fun watching you taste everything. Thanks for spending the time to review so many things!
Thank you guys for the wonderful review! This is why you are the best on RUclips! ❤ I'm a malt fan (love a Wendy's Frosty) so I'm going to take Kevin's suggestion of trying to mix the Chocolate Malt with the Plain Malt! I may even try freezing and running through my Ninja Creami to see if I can come anywhere close to a Frosty! Thank you again for buying these and the great review!!
Hi Tami and Kevin ! I came across your channel first seeing your Stratford-Upon-Avon cream tea picnic. Here in the UK, Ovaltine is strictly a hot drink, traditionally drunk before bedtime to help sleep. Love you peanut butter reviews best!! That's something we look to the US for !! 🗽🗽
I grew up on Ovaltine, it's great !!! About Nestle's.........Nestle Quik was invented in 1948, then in 1999, it changed from Nestle Quik to Nesquik. I really don't remember, as a kid, that Nestle's had malt in it, if it did, it was slight. It's been years since I've had some. They're both very good, you know they're good because look how many years both have been around. Toss some vanilla ice cream in a blender with Ovaline and you have a nice malted milk shake. I don't follow directions on the containers, because I like a little stronger taste. The regular malt is my favorite, because I don't always want just chocolate, it's a nice change, put it in vanilla ice cream for a perfect vanilla malt milkshake.
We tried this when we were younger kids but my brothers n sister didn’t care for it and funny we still won’t drink it. We love malted milk balls but not Ovaltine. Great idea Amy to ask Tami n Kevin to compare the three. Thank you for tasting n sharing with us.. See you tomorrow. Sweet dreams.😊
I actually use Ovaltine in my protein/breakfast shakes! 12oz of milk, 1 serving of Ovaltine, 1 serving of unflavored whey protein, handful of ice, blasted in the Ninja makes a delicious and filling breakfast that I take to work. Maybe about 350 calories, full of flavor, no funky textures.
Love “a Christmas story” and the TBS marathon each year!!! My dad loved ovaltine! Have you ever heard of Bosco? It’s basically hersheys syrup… as kids my parents bought the syrup not the powder… but when we did get the powder I liked to sprinkle it on my ice cream!!!
Whenever I mention either Nesquik or Ovaltine to my mom, she responds with “my family was always a Bosco family!” I wish they still made Bosco so you could compare all 3 brands! Nice to hear ovaltine is good though, I’ll have to try the chocolate malt! Thank you!!
I grew up on that love the malt flavor 🥰Ovaltine was known to have more vitamins it’s like instant breakfast another one to try is carnations instant breakfast malt milk flavor I think it’s called that’s a real malt flavor so yummy
I love Ovaltine! I prefer it over regular chocolate milk. I didn't know there were different flavors though, I've only had the rich chocolate. Ovaltine was the ONLY thing that I craved when I was pregnant. Great review!
I grew up on Ovaltine and didn’t have nesquick until I was a teenager. I can’t remember if I really enjoyed it though. I did like it enough to sneak by the dry spoonful when my mom wouldn’t let me sweets. I don’t drink sweet drinks anymore; wonder what I would think of this 30+ years later…
You'll have to do the Milo mix versus the chocolate malt of Ovaltine. Since I was wondering if the latter was the American equivalent of malted ovaltine.
I would have never thought that either! Now I'm going to have to go out and get me some Ovaltine and try it lol. Now that you all have done this test I think it would be interesting if you would compare already prepared chocolate milk like you buy in the half gallon or gallon bottles. My favorite by far is TruMoo. The chocolate is so rich and delicious! If you are able to find it you and Kevin HAVE to try it. It's available in whole milk and low fat and you won't regret it! 😊
I think it did start as a malt drink. This was also available when I was a child in South Africa, although I was more of a Nesquik child as well. These sound good. I wonder how it compares to Milo. I would t have thought this was a competitor to Nesquik as Nesquik doesn’t have a malt flavour. Thanks for the review.
When the girls were little I bought the chocolate ovaltine bc of the vitamins. Used it for smoothies when I needed to get food in them during picky phases.
Ovaltine is good stuff!! Reminds me of A Christmas Story 😂 did you find the jolly rancher ropes yet, Tami? I saw those came out, i can't wait to see that one!
I haven’t had that since I was a kid. Back then malt was the only flavor available. It was great in milk and on ice cream. My father was born in 1917 and drank it when he was a kid too.
Grew up on Ovaltine and we all loved it. I still buy it and also buy Nesquik...love that one also. Also...once you taste a prenatal...you NEVER forget that taste...nasty
I never knew USA had Ovaltine. I assumed it was something only in the UK but it is not. I had to look up the differences between UK and USA and they are; UK The UK version of Ovaltine contains condensed skimmed milk, barley malt extract, glucose syrup, vegetable oils, fat-reduced cocoa powder, salt, minerals, and stabilizers. It's produced in Neuenegg, Switzerland, and is available in Original Add Milk, Original Add Water, and Chocolate Add Water varieties. US The US version of Ovaltine contains sugar, whey, corn maltodextrin, malt extract, nonfat milk, caramel color, beet juice color, natural flavor, soy lecithin, salt, and molasses. It's available in chocolate malt and malt varieties. Thanks for the video. I learnt something new.
I never had Ovaltine either. We were a Nesquick family. To be honest the only time I’ve heard of it is in The Christmas Story movie. I wrote this before you said it. 😂 Is this review going to make me try Ovaltine?!? I think so! Thanks to Amy. Great review.
Let me know if you want the nutrition/ingredient label for the Nothing Bundt Cakes Strawberry Pop Tart Bundlet! I got my hands on it and would love to give it to you for your review!

The Rich Chocolate is so good!
When I was little my grandpa would add the malt to vanilla ice cream for me as a treat, loved it.
What a fun review! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love me some Ovaltine and I’m 39 years old and still drinking a cup of Ovaltine before I go to bed almost every night.
Oh hot damn... I haven't had this in YEARS! I remember loving it!
I had two 13 pound babies...i never took a prenatal vitamin. I did however drink a glass of Ovaltine every day!
😳😳🤣🤣

Thank you 🙏🏻
@@TamiDunn You're welcome. And, it's kept with the tea and coffee in store (never the milkshake). Love your channel!!
Yay! Ovaltine brings back so many memories.
I love these i still have these as a adult my mother used to give it to me as a child
Growing up it was always Ovaltine for chocolate and Nesquick for strawberry. The only reason was because my dad also had Ovaltine growing up.
I love that!
It was in Christmas Story! "Drink more Ovaltine"
I very vaguely remember having Ovaltine as a kid. I'm surprised they even still made this!

I wonder if you would like the Rich Chocolate flavor.

Yes, we have seen Bosco in several flavors.
Growing up I had Hershey syrup and powder to make chocolate milk.

It's so good!
Hi Tami! The European Formula Ovaltine is what I grew up drinking every morning. I didn't even knew that an American version existed.
That’s so neat!!
I’m sure you would think it was too sweet.
@@TamiDunn I dunno. I don’t think I’ve ever said“this is too sweet” about anything! lol
I love the Nesquick Milkshake powder.
This was so fun. All I could think about as you were drinking these was the yummy sludge at the bottom of all of them😂
Yes! 😂😂
You'll have to do the Milo mix versus the chocolate malt of Ovaltine. Since I was wondering if the latter was the American equivalent of malted ovaltine.

I guessed they aren’t competing since this has vitamins?
When the girls were little I bought the chocolate ovaltine bc of the vitamins. Used it for smoothies when I needed to get food in them during picky phases.
That was a smart way to do that!

Aww, that’s incredible!
My dad told me he drank Ovaltine all the time when he was a kid. I didn't know it was still made. So BESURETODRINKYOUROVALTINE.
A Christmas Story nostalgia
We had it warm when we were kids ❤
I love hot chocolate :)
We buy carnation malted milk. It is a powder to add to milk.
The chocolate Malt theres nothing better.in really cold milk.alittle taste of heaven. 👼
Grew up on Ovaltine and we all loved it. I still buy it and also buy Nesquik...love that one also. Also...once you taste a prenatal...you NEVER forget that taste...nasty
Yes! They are the worst vitamins.
I love Ovaltine if I wanna make my own chocolate milk

Thank you for the information!
I like the chocolate malt ovaltine
I wish you could send in the caps and get a secret decoder ring.
I prefer Bosco over all these powder mixes.
Isn't Bosco a liquid?
I choose Ovaltine for the vitamins for my kids.
My mom always gave us Flintstones Vitamins.
My Dad puts the Chocolate Ovaltine in his coffee every morning.
I bet it’s good!
never drank ovaltine, i’ve had other hot bedtime chocolate drinks though ☕️🛌
