I've probably watched this 25 times and I get motivated each time. I'm proud to be a Marine and I'm so proud of how our Marine Corps Bands represents us. Semper Fi.
Great performance! Nice crowd, too. They truly ARE one of the only "bands" that can absolutely kick your ass; they're just too disciplined to do so. Many years in drum corps, and I've never seen these guys outplayed yet.
unbelievable. look at the way they take a corner. perfecley in tune . bass drums as loud as any heavy metal band . the real bad ass is the leader w thin baton at left. absolute perfection . hope these guys read my post . makes me so proud to be an american . best , ken harck
The school of music is 6 months long and is there to make sure you are proficient at your instrument, but the instructors are well aware that many are just coming out of high school and haven't player there horns in months or as was in my case, 6 months because of boot camp and MCT, but that is why the school is so long and the primary focus is in the practice room on the horn.
The uS custom has been to support a band for division or other large sized commands-like a major state side base. Geerally speaking, if s force rates a command sergeant-major it probably has band. Otherwise it calls on a band to com in for ceremonies from a regional band.
@jarekgar1 This is a composite of four field bands. To compare the field bands with Her Majesty's Own isn't exactly fair. If you want a fair comparison, take a look at The President's Own -- the United States Marine Band in Washington, DC.
You audition:if yu make it you get a term contract and a modified boot training, then a posting to one of several Marine bands which may then place you in one of several performing ensembles.
The guards bands use music holders and flip folders. I think you'll find the Marine bands memorize large chunks of their repertoire-especially corp-specific and patriotic tunes.
do you realize how much music that would be... normally you will see these bands carrying a satchel full of flip folders around 5 all with about 20 pages full of music... the only ones required to memorize their repertoire is the USMC Drum and Bugle Corps and thats a binder of 8.5 by 11 paper... 300 pages plus the music that they play for their tour
want to see absolute perfection ?these guys are it . look how they take a corner in perfect line, perfect step, perfect in tune . i came from marching bands this is very hard to do. they rehearse this 8 hours a a day . when the baton major to left signals . this is meant to honer our president and visiting dignateries .the real bad ass is the director w small baton to the left. he trains them puts them through the pasess. god forbid you arent good enough for the band. you will be tossed in a day. when the band breaks into the mariens hymm, slow step is the idea here. to honor all dead marines. when they go back to full step, that means they carry on and nothing will stop them. like give me a fuckin break. nothing compairs . after all they are marines. nothing fuckin compairs. best to all of them. i hope they read this. ken harck
heres a story my uncle told me..Subic Bay Philippines.mid 60s..The much awaited town parade was coming out of the base gates..led by the navy or marine band (navy i guess.doesnt matter)..what a sight my uncle sez..those big guys marching belting out their usual marches when this Filipino punk on a bike drove through the middle of the band..the ranks just gave way w/o breaking formation ..the band major just waved his baton to the band and the parade just went back insside the base..end of story.
@Codywolf518 Well, even if he isn't, I'd like to apologise for his idiocy on behalf of Britain. The 2 best military bands in the world are Marines. USMC and Royal Marines Band.
wow...with all of my knowledge and dedication to the Marine Corps, I didn't know that. I suppose I should look in to reading up on the Marine Corps band before I enlist, huh?
"Got involved"...in wars started by Europeans and Japanese. Maybe if you Brit twits had done something about Hitler back in the 1930s, kids from Nebraska and Alabama wouldn't have had to die in France, Belgium, North Africa, Germany, Luxembourg, the Atlantic, etc. So, please, cut the "We were in the war first..." crap.
your boot training is not modified... you audition and if you are pro lvl you will get posted to Marine Barracks to the Presidents Own, then thats when you wont go to bootcamp and will be under a non deployable status... USMC drum and bugle corps, or one of the other Fleet Marine Force bands go to bootcamp and marine combat training...
soy chileno y opino en mi idioma . muy buenas las marchas americanas , alegres, de marcha rápida, las alemanas son de corte mas militar , acompasadas, por el paso regular, lo bueno que son antes de hitler, por lo tanto se salvan.
Hey Joyce Davis: The Royal Marines band is by far the best. Take a look at some of their You Tube videos, especially the massed bands. Or take at look at their February 2016 performance in Austin, Texas.

Is the baton guy the director of the band?
Why is there one band member wearing a Navy uniform? Is he in the Navy?
