    This is an excellent presentation of how thread unwinds - using the ribbon really showed it perfectly. It is one of the problems when using a heavy (V62 or 92) thread, or, kevlar threads (which have all manner of issues). If you can mount the spool horizontally, you eliminate the twist. If the large spool puts a little more 'tension' on the top thread, just adjust the bottom tension and you are good to go. Eliminates skipped stitches, which is very important when making canvas/sunbrella projects for other folks!
    Thanks for showing it so clearly. All the other folks selling 'spool holders' just don't seem to 'get it'.

    I purchased this item sometime ago and have been delighted how this is so beneficial for metallic threads very few breakages and also good tension saves a huge amount of time on intense metallic designs. I just love it.

    I have this product and love it. The video is a great reminder of how it should be set up. I've been using it all this time from the back of my machine. Also, I did buy mine a couple of years ago, I don't remember having a bobbin holder with my item.

    I will add that home sewing doesn't have these same issues, as the thread is light gauge and any twist to the horizontally mounted spool will simply feed through (although you may occasionally see a skipped stitch). Fair Winds!

    Unfortunately your introduction is misleading , i.e. when you claim that cross-wound spools should always be unwound from the top. This is only true if the spool is very large and turning it would affect the machine tension. But small spools, whether straight-wound or cross-wound should be allowed to turn as they feed the machine. The difference between them is only a manufacturing feature and not require a particular type of unwinding. Please correct your video so as not to confuse people further

    When using the bobbin holder feature, what keeps the bobbin from coming off the plastic holder? It seems like a great feature and a wonderful way to use up extra bobbin thread.

      Bobbins don't move back and forth as much as spools do. This allows the bobbin to stay on the peg without the need of a cap, to keep the bobbin from sliding off.

    The way you show the thread positioned is the opposite to everything I was told by teachers, techs and the sewing instruction manuals. So this is quite confusing as I was told crosswound should be horizontal. However large cones are too large to be placed horizontally, so I put my cones on a vertical holder, but when quilting, the thread flies off the cone too fast and gets caught or tangled! So was I told wrong how to postion thread on tge machine all these decades???

      Daryl - spools that are stack wound (also called parallel wound), such as our Metallic thread, are meant to unwind from off the side. While this may not affect stronger threads, delicate threads can be adversely affected by having the thread unwind off the cone or spool in a different way than the thread was wound onto the spool/cone.
      If you have a large cone of thread sitting on an adapter on your machine, it takes a lot of effort to pull the thread off the cone (rotating the actual cone). There's no extra tension put on the thread as it unwinds over the top of a cone of thread.
      For these reasons (as shown starting at 0:20 in the video), this is why we recommend the Thread Holder.

    I have a question. You said that thread that comes on a spool should always be put on a vertical spool pin so that the thread comes off from top ........ but then you said if you Don't have a vertical holder use the thread holder that you sell , then you should the holder by put the SPOOL on HORIZONTAL so the thread was coming off like you said it shouldn't ,side to side.......I have a cone holder ........,my machine has a spindle that. Is for laying down. ..I was trying to find a way to sit it up.vertically I thought that I might use the cone holder but was not sure I'm not sure how that would.'

      Trayne1837 Our Superior spools are stack wound and meant to come off the spool from the side, not over the top. (Watch the video from 0:21 for the example). With delicate or sensitive threads, we especially recommend having the spool unwind off the side. For stronger threads, you may not experience any problems if the thread is coming off the top.

      When you say side to side... is the spool hole vertical (standing up and down) or is it laying on it's side... at 0: 21 the spool is laying on it's side with the ends horizontal.
      at 0:31 the spool is also on it's side, but I see it end for end.... So, on my machine I either can sit it on the spool holder side to side... but can not set it on a spool holder with the spool standing up end over end.... I was watching Dr. Bob who , I believe said that most spools should be vertical and not feed laying horitzontal..
      So, which is it. because I don't have a up & down spool holder only a side to side.

    My machine only had a vertical spool pin, and I want to be able to use cross wound thread - not the cones, just the regular-sized ones. Can I use this to meet that need?

    • @superiorthreads
      @superiorthreads  7 лет назад +1

      @Karen P yes. The thread holder can be used alongside any home sewing machine for spools and cones. :)

    I have bernina330 n Viking designer se will work ?? Any threads????

    • @superiorthreads
      @superiorthreads  11 лет назад +1

      Maria, we use our thread holder with our Bernina Machines and Viking Designer II and it works perfectly. If your machine(s) is in a table and set lower, place the Thread Holder behind and to the right. If your machine(s) is on a flat surface, place the Thread Holder next to your machine, on the right side. We use the thread holder for all delicate threads on spools and all types of large cones.
