Intrusion into the passenger compartment was too high, causing the steering wheel to shift right, and the dummy missing the airbag. To add to this, the side curtain airbag did not have adequate frontal support, causing the dummy to hit the door.
European cars tend to not fully support The SPOC(20~40% overlap at 40mph) scenario as they aren't required by the crash safety standards in the EU. The result of C-IASI Small overlap test of renault shows that.
Plus, This ford C-Max is Built upon the Volvo P1 platform, which includes Gen 3 SPOC Body structure developed by Volvo, that uses same test method in its designing process as IIHS small overlap test because the IIHS Small overlap test was literally transferred almost as is from Volvo's Gen 3 SPOC Test method.
One thing to note about this SPOC Body structure is that they put a immense emphasis on protecting the footwell compartment, hence the 45 degrees of horizontal angle of the firewall. in fact, despite this amount of intrusion, the footrest intrusion remained within the "Good" rating threshold by IIHS, let alone the amount of damage to the legs of the dummy that is enough to downgrade the leg rating from Good rating. Though, ford forcefully fitted a type of body concept that is little out of the expected design threshold, because how far forward the A-pillars are, Hence the considerable amount of intrusion into the upper portion of the car. Almost forgot : Though it's not perfect, I think this is the best pick out of all that you've suggested!
@@beamboy07 Yup, it shares the platform! Do keep in mind though, they could downgrade the grades of steel as focus was sold specifically for european market, as you could see happening with, for example, hondas and some BMWs.
External airbags have been designed and thought of, however the issue is they need to deploy before impact and most things might give a false response. A curb, parked car, car pulling out of a side street, etc. The only external airbags that work are Volvo’s Pedestrian-hood bags.
The main downgrade in this test was for structure. The dummy injury measures all looked good, but we put a lot of emphasis on the vehicle's ability to keep the occupant space intact. If that space remains intact the people inside have a greater chance of avoiding injury. The C-Max was also downgraded for the restraints. The side curtain didn't extend forward enough to provide adequate protection.
How on God's earth can this be acceptable! At least I didn't see the dash braking into little bitty pieces. One of my friends has one and when the temperature reaches severe heat levels, the a/c in that thing seems to have met its match. I could just about sense how far into the passenger compartment the engine is shoved in a head on collision. By looking at this, I could imagine a fire brewing in the passenger compartment. My buddies at Gillig would never build anything like this. Ford should be sued for building small cars like this. I rather have a 30' Gillig Phantom than this piece of trash.
My mom got hit by a guy who ran a red light in her cmax. The car kept her safe with no broken bones. This is a very safe car.

not bad apart from the fact that his face completely missed the airbag lol

It's never a good sign when the dummy's head slides off the airbag.
Why
@haidengameplays that means anyone who gets into this accident is going to face-plant into the dashboard.
