It's amazing how such a short intro can bring back such a long legacy of nostalgia.
    Thanks for this.

Hello Mr. Teitzell. I'm 32 years old and I've loved this theme song and intro and remember this very well since I was 8 years old back in 1984! My overall favorite one was the cartoon commercial for Saturday morning's on NBC back in the mid 1980's featuring a roller coaster and Casey Kasem saying "we'll return after these message's"! The theme song that NBC used for that commercial was probably my all time favorite! This is some good classic stuff man and truly and sadly a real lost art!

I am incredulous that all of these comment-writers seem to know and remember this graphic so well? Why? Because it is so LONG ago and so lost among so much TV graphics ephemera . How can I say that? My company made this move open. My name is Jay Teitzell and we did virtually every on-air promo graphic between 1979 and 1985. This particular open was designed by the great John LePrevost, Directed by David Bleiman and Produced by David and I. I guess I should get in touch with Mr. EYEONTV.

@Teitzell Mr. Teitzell: When I hear this song, it takes me back: fresh out of a bath and ready for bed, mom was going to tuck me in and then watch the movie. That was when I was six years old. Now, I appreciate the graphics and not only does the music take me back, like I said, but it sounds so "big" and exciting. I'm sure this preceeded the Wizard of Oz a few times as I grew up and that may be why I remember it so well. Cheers to you and your crew, Mr. Teitzell.

This is the first CBS movie opening to use computer graphics. This one was generally used from 1983 to 1986; though during the 1985-86 season it continued as a secondary movie opener on the network, along with the 1978 colorful cutting room floor intro, and the 1985-89 3D Digital CGI intro with the exact same theme music with higher quality. By the fall of 1986 this opening and the colorful cutting room floor opening were discontinued, leaving the HQ 3D CGI the sole CBS movie intro until the fall of 1989.

Dolphinbuc I agree with you. Though CBS and NBC have a place in my collection of fond memories of television in the 70s & 80s, I was and still am very partial to ABC. To me you just couldn't top the star tunnel intro or the one before that. Ernie Anderson and Joel Crager's voice over the trailers could get you running to the TV. Abc just had the whole package, a combination of things that put them way over the other 2 networks.

@Teitzell Hmmm... 1979-1985. That era encompassed this set of opens, plus its predecessor, the series with the film projector. Prior to that era, most of CBS's on-air promo graphics came from the late, legendary Lou Dorfsman. Dorfsman even created my all-time favorite, the 1972-84 "CBS Late Movie" title (particularly, the full 20-second version).

I've seen plenty of crappy movies from the 70's and 80's. Not all of them were golden gems. Plenty of turds came out back then just like today. Lots of boring movies too.
Sometimes you'll hear crappy music in the background of a grainy 70's film and the movie just becomes insufferable from that alone. Nostalgia isn't as good as people remember.
