transmission of AC can be enhanced using static var compensators( Studied in my college project) , this is a a cheeper solution then installing a new substation between any two transmission power destination.

Transformer doesn't convert current but its main function is to step-up or step-down the voltage. To convert AC into DC a rectifier is needed not a transformer.Hope you understand🙏

Yes. VDC current is more efficient but can't be transmitted long distance. That why we use VAC because we can easily StepUp it with transformer and transmit to long distance. And then easily StepDown as our requirments or rated Voltage. For transmit VDC we need to use booster which is far more expensive then VAC transmission system.

Because of reasons like Inductance and reactances present in AC line and absent DC line its consumes more power for longer distance.
But for shorter distance High Voltage DC will produce very high I²R losses, which are less in AC.
