  • I have yet to do a video on The Beatles, so I felt it was time. I actually don't know why I chose this song "Back in the U.S.S.R" but here we are! I love The Beatles, I think everyone should listen to them at some point. I am aware some people don't like them, but I just don't understand why.

What changed it for me was hearing their stuff performed live (by any band really) it all translates so well into live performance with this song being a prime example. The original is fairly mellow I feel so it always goes a bit harder live, that guitar line is so sweet. It's kind of crazy how they re-shaped music as we know it yet theres people out there comparing them with the modern artists they seeded.

Seems to be my zeitgeist song now. would be curious to know where it stands for you among many great darkness songs? Frankie sure seems to be enjoying it in the video. Amazing video as well. Love how you guys are always paying homage to incredible and inspiring natural beauty. Might there be a gnostic or religeo influence there? Do tell.

A Hard Day’s Night is the first album I remember ever learning off by heart, I obsessively ordered their tapes and videos through the Tv Guide every birthday or Christmas and scoured flea markets until i had them all. They were my favourite band until my late teens, still top 5, though I tend to listen to George Harrison’s solo work more these days for some reason. But I’ve been listening to the white album again recently after I rediscovered I Will randomly. Bloody beautiful song.

John Lennon was a genius. They were extremely tight. 40 days in Hamburg on preludin made them what they were. I can't think of another band that had three lead vocals. If you listen to their second gig in Washington DC in America, they almost sounded like a ACDC. No Ringo no Phil Rudd. Ringo playing on a crappy drum riser.
Lennon was like Chopin. All the other bands like the Beach boys needed The Wrecking Crew and they still don't top The Beatles because they didn't do road time.

I once had a friend who insisted The Beatles were "overrated" and "boring". I played Tomorrow Never Knows for her, after a few seconds she asked if it was a remix, I said no, it was recorded in 1966. Her jaw literally dropped open and I could see the understanding of how wrong she was dawn in her eyes. She had the good grace to shut the fuck up after that. Now she loves them almost as much as I do. I suspect a lot of Beatles haters haven't actually listened to much of their back catalogue and simply resent the fact they're being told they should love The Beatles, and how influential and important the band were and are. Like their music or not, you cannot overstate how important they are to music. The shorter answer is, "you don't like The Beatles? Do you also hate Bach? Mozart? Beethoven?". The Beatles are that essential.
