SO refreshing to watch someone who knows what they are doing instead of the typical RUclips pretend engineers. Amazing car you have therre David and please keep the vids coming.
🎉🎉 🚗 💨 Had a lot of fun filming this video and witnessing the beast hit some corners for the first time. It sounds & look monstrous. 🙌 Can’t wait for the next one.
I was on Pikes Peak watching Michell Mouton humiliating the Unsers the first time. It was like magic seeing her fly up that mountain like water flowing up-hill, dirt and dust flying, followed by two helicopters filming. Forever etched in my memory.
Dave, you are a legend. It is honestly a dream to see you actually building what was only ever a mythical beast. I have always been a fan of group B cars and the way they were built with virtually no limits. The whole story has always fascinated me; how Audi dominated until their front engine layout was overtaken by the mid engined T16s. How Gumpert and his team secretly built some mid engined cars even though it had been forbidden by the senior management. Then Piech found out about them, due to those famous grainy spy photos and had them destroyed. Growing up those few pictures fired my imagination. Its the ultimate petrol head's WHAT IF. What if Group B had not been banned, and what if Audi had actually developed that mid engined car. Imagine that in 1987 that car had been lining up against the latest T16s, along with fully developed Ford RS200s, Lancia S4s and Metro 6R4s. Seeing you build this car and prepare to drive it in anger is just absolutely awesome. I am sure many petrol heads will also be loving this story. It would be pretty cool to see Roland Gumpert and Walter Rohrl meeting the car and casting their eyes over it. Maybe get Walter to take it for a spin.
Group B was about dream car and nightmare racing. They would have been OK in closed circuit but were insane in rallying. Rally racing is about being the fastest and surviving to tell someone. We all know why Groupo B ended and Group S never came to be. That said, the work is otherworldly but Dave is not the average RUclipsr, he is a bit better equipped. This is not a project for everyone.
The original engineering and build quality is a pleasure to behold‼️ many thanks for letting us share your expedition through this automotive wonderland👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🍺🍺🍺
Really interesting to hear the first comparison between this car and your other quattro’s. I remember reading Walter Rohl having exactly the same feeling after his first runs in the original car.
Good to see some long Anticipated videos of the car doing where it was build for!!!! I really think you out did you're self with this car 🔥 What a beauty from the outside and as you mentioned you are still on the beginning of developing its final output and capabilities. Keep up the good work!! 💪 and enjoy the holidays.
Hi mate great video and really love your build and hope everything goes well at pikes peak. I know you build your own engines etc but you should contact my mate and long term engine builder who is ian howell at area six developments as hes getting big reliable numbers from these engines around 1300bhp , it maybe be good to call him up and exchange a few ideas . He builds all storm developments engines for there big builds. Just a thought👍 Keep up the great work
Mega machine. Back in the day in Ireland, we followed the group B Audi Quattros, met the drivers and had reasonable access to the makeshift pits. These have been my bucket list cars ever since. Today, against my budget, I have a 2007 Audi A6 S line 2.7TDI Quattro Le Mans Edition (it turns out it's rare, and all my mates want to buy it from me; it is in perfect condition), which is mega on the back roads of the Lincolnshire Wolds in any weather and a real sleeper. Audi's Quattro system is the dog's nuts. I'm looking forward to seeing your drive up Pikes Peak.
4:38 You can see how good it is with your in-car steering inputs. You aren't chasing it a around the corners, you're turning in and hold the line without moving the wheel back and forth 👍 Nice work!
It’s a track that I produced myself. I will be releasing it probably early to mid 2025 on an album called Distant Notion Pt, 2. Pt.1 is out already if you fancy giving that a listen! 🙌
Well done Dave, and team… great to see you enjoying the car now… looking forward to catching up with you soon… I want to put my name down for one of your cool skateboard signs if poss… Have a great Xmas 👍🏼
Hello David Thanks for the great video. I have followed the whole process of building this car meticulously. First class work 👍 My question to you: You are currently testing the car on the race track. Will there also be an opportunity to marvel at the Audi on its original terrain, i.e. on (historic) rally tracks in Europe? Or is the Audi Group S RS001 project only intended as a road racing car (Pikes Peak)? Thank you very much for your answer.
Wonderful project. Wonderful car and wonderful work. Now we must hope to see Lancia ECV at Pikes Peak, just te see a fair competition... Spoiler alert: it will NEVER happen....the ECV is currently runnig, but not in serious competition, mostly show. And I think it's fair enough. But it would be a nice challenge.... Good luck and fight hard!
Hey David. You guys build an amazing Car 🤩😍♥️ On the Garagewall hangs a Skateboard-deck with your Quattro RS001. Where can i get one of those? Hope you can help me, please. Best regards Jens
@@jensschmidtke9511 thanks Jens, I had the boards made for the people that helped me out with the build. I don't have any left but leave it with me and I will see what I can do if you want one.
@EPSDaveRowe I saw it in advance with my friend Andreas Aul and thought it was very cool. If it were feasible and not too much of a hassle, I would love to take one. Many greetings and a Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Absolutely incredible Dave. I'm so pleased for you and everyone else involved in this project. Any plans to take Grumpy to an event in the UK next year sometime?
Amazing car.... Id love to see it used in anger for its intended purpose.... Twisty mountain roads and wet gravel forest stages... Not a track car set up... 👌🙏
Wow OMG OMG that thing sounds savage on track and rollers Couldn't hear much over the gearbox whine in car but nothing sounds as good as a 5pot spooling on full boost 👊👊👊
Thanks as its a lovely sound for sure. Your right about the gearbox noise as the VBox has a microscope and it was next to the gearbox. Might need to move it out the back near the engine. 👌
Have you built/recorded a torque model on the dyno? Do you do this for different throttle angles as well as boost to then feed into torque modelling and traction control etc?
Mate the car locks stunning 👍 One thing I saw your intercooler is pretty much resting on the Exhaust... Your intake air temps is probably coming alot from there 😉

Lovely video Dave. Wish I had the opportunity to see it, I only love 30min from Blyton
Could tell from the Blyton test footage that the car wanted more, then you give it more on the dyno and just hear it come alive, awesome stuff!
