She has incredible control, tone and range! Her voice is so angelic and it was awesome to hear her great gospel style singing as well. She has overcome much and I felt her heart again on this one. This performance, she had really bad Pneumonia, and was at a local hospital that day, and they told her not to speak, but she pushed forward, and with weak lungs, and a bad throat, she was able to do what she did. I can hear in her highest note, it was not a clean and strong is normal for her, but that's due to her throat and weak lungs.
The man is Shane Filan from the group, Westlife. It was actually really tough day for SoHyang and she was going to cancel her performance. She got pneumonia suffering from coughing, congestion and chest pains. She thought that this might be her last singing performance and decided to keep going asking God for the strength. At the beginning of the video, you can see she’s praying. After this performance, she couldn’t perform for 2 years. Sohyang said she was thinking about quitting her singer career while she was suffering and recovering from pneumonia and depression. She overcame them with the faith in God that singing is her mission and also with the RUclips reaction/analysis videos to her singing performance. Those videos encouraged her and also reminded her that how she sang and formed to make the sounds. 2yrs after she came back through tv shows “Mask Singers” and later “Begins Again”. I highly recommend her busking performances on “Begins Again” She and other singers went out busking to cheer up and comfort people during the pandemic.

She is making the sound her own, but she keep what makes the song so great. She doesn't change it for the sake of it, she takes the audience through a journey, and it makes sense with the original song.
She's a Christian, and like a lot of stories in The Bible, the message has a lot of meanings.
Did you notice how she ingeniously transformed one of the stanzas into a bridge - and made it sound completely improvised, even though it was probably practiced meticulously? I thought it was so tasteful, because this song tends to sound too redundant unless something like that is done - and by doing this she added so much colour, variety and nuance. Sohyang gave us so many unexpected surprises in this song that everyone thought they knew. I think Sohyang has the ability to make inspired arrangements to perfectly frame her incredibly beautiful voice.
Her emotion resonates with every note and every word she sings.
It cuts through your heart so deeply and you can't help but fall for this remarkable lady.
As others already noted, the gentleman was Shane Filan of the Irish boy band "Westlife", who also had "You Raise Me Up" as a hit in Great Britain. This episode on Immortal Song 2 is Shane Filan Special so all the invited singers performed his songs with their own interpretation. In the pre-performance interview segment, Sohyang mentioned that this rendition represents her personal story, presumably about her faith. If her Arirang Alone gives you a trip about Korean history, Sohyang's masterful "You Raise Me Up" delivered a spiritual journey. By the way, Josh Groban met up with Sohyang and performed together on stage "All I Ask Of You" during his 2018 tour in South Korea.
Your story about the boy is very touching and inspiring. It's such a talent that Sohyang's voice can make us introspective. As dominant and grand she may look on stage, her singing feels intimate and personal. Her voice can engage our inner self during the performance.

This is not the original arrangement of hers of You Raise Me Up. The original is a lot simpler. She only did this arrangement for this show and never sing this way in other future lives (she used her original arrangement back, which I don't mind at all). She's the type of singer who prefers to keep a song simple yet somehow still can make it like her own. And that's why I love her so much

She was ill when she did this,she hadn't yet recovered from her latest bout of pneumonia & had been told to not even speak nevermind sing but she didn't want to let the audience down. Anyone who has seen a lot of sohyang will probably have similar thoughts to me in that she doesn't look her best,she looks very guant in the face & that she's lost even more weight. Music is all about individual taste but as a massive sohyang fan,I have to say this song doesn't get in to my top 10 performances of hers even though its still amazing.the guy is shane filan from the irish band 'westlife' who had a massive no 1 hit in the UK & Europe with the same song. The whole show was dedicated to the songs of westlife. She had cancer in her early 20's & the chemo left her unable to have children of her own, which is the greatest shame of all because she would be such a fantastic mother. She has many bouts of illness,mainly due to the fact that the chemo left her immune system weak so she is more vunerable than most. She has had bouts of pneumonia & as it affects the lungs its even more disasterous for a singer.There is a video of josh groban singing with so hyang when he was on tour(i will find it & send you the link). You have to react to her peformance of 'lean on me' on immortal songs. This was her first appearance on this show & she won. It was a michael bolton special & he was the guest of the show. When they went to him for comments after her performance, initially he couldn't speak but when he got himself together he simply said "that was spectacular" & went on to say that she took on the role of 'virtuoso'. She has since joined him on stage whenever he tours in Asia & there are vids available of these performances & same for when she sang the other 'lean on me'(gospel song) when she joined kirk franklin on stage (when she's just doing her own thing,away from the TV camera's she can really go off on one with crazy improvised notes,mega gospel. If you shut your eyes you could be forgiven for thinking that you were listening to a well built black lady from the deep south of the US.In my experience they are the best at gospel,well before sohyang popped up in my life at least!! She has just recently released a version of 'amazing grace' which she specifically did in reaction to the pandemic. She's just sat in front of a mic in a studio,very low key but very touching

This performance is one of my top two. I actually wouldn't have guessed she was sick if not for reading comments after I first watched it. And that makes me love what she did even more, which was outstanding even without her being sick. When you add the fact that she was sick, it goes to show you how miraculous her talent is. And this arrangement is one of the best of all time.

She is a master arranger, this is also very apparent in her Lean On Me cover! You should *react to So Hyang's performance of Lean On Me* where Michael Bolton was a guest audience, she shows off her more upbeat live performance and the reaction of Michael Bolton is just priceless!
Please please.. React to her "Everyone" song. That song is the hardest song she ever perform. You will see her true potential. Her ability vocally and her masterful breath control.

Not only is So-Hyang at the very, very sharp end as a singer, she's there as well as an arranger. I mean, who else could turn this song into this thing? While with beautiful core melodies, this is otherwise an exceedingly simple song. So-Hyang turned it into about as complex a song as this song could possibly be, all while retaining full accessibility, enhancing its beauty multi-fold. The departures from the original are all seamless, entirely appropriate, tasteful, still tied to the original melodies to varying degrees, most importantly, enhancing. And, the more you listen to her re-arrangements, the more you recognize how special they are, the way she arranges the back-up singers (really stands out from your run-of-the-mill professional arrangements from just about any other songs, whether originals, covers, whatever), how the instruments are used, when certain instruments enter, exit, the changes in tempo, etc. As stunning as she is as a singer, she is truly at least as stunning as an arranger.

Great reaction, Josh. I'd love for you to also check out "Everyone". It's one of the most famous songs in Korea and really packs an emotional punch. It's also written as a gospel, although it's not always performed as such. I think it'll be well worth your while.
Yes, Sohyang's a devout christian. She sings to comfort others and bring message of love. At David Foster's concert in 2018, she asked David if she could sing Amazing Grace to the audience at the conclusion of the concert. Upon returning from the concert, she said that her conviction of not chasing fame and fortune was even greater. I don't think we'll see Sohayng sign a record deal with a big label anytime soon but one can only hope.
I wish she would agree to do a concert where she does all of her best songs (that being a relative term) and the producers provide all of the best staging, lighting and musicians available in the world. She could donate all the proceedings to her favourite charities and the Blu-ray would sell millions and millions! And we could all have it in our collection of favourite treasures!
I'd rather see her as the way she goes now than seeing big label torturing her with fame which could kill her voice (cause that happens a lot to big singers).

RUclips is wonderful bring music like Sohyang's to the whole world. But the compression. There about 5 db difference from her softest part to her strongest belt. Imagine the dynamic range in the house mix. One of the commenters mentions that they were in the audience. Wow. Immortal Songs is a show that gives tribute to great and popular artists from the past. And they do so by holding a friendly competition determined by the audience votes, where they invite professional singers to perform a song by the artist that particular episode is giving tribute to.
This episode was for Westlife. So So Hyang sang this as its also one of their most successful hit covers. From what I heard she based it more off the original version by Secret Garden, which is why it sounds quite different from the covers of Josh Groaban and Westlife.
Btw Josh is a big fan of her and they even collabotated for a concert a few years back.

I love so Hyang . She’s fantastic.
But I have a request that you react to her closest and best friend, “Park Ki Young”, I like Park Ki Young because they have about the same vocal range but Park Ki Young is a tad more versatile and can belt them with equal emotional impact and power in rock, pop, soul, jazz flamenco, and classical ( opera).

receives a lot more reactors and reactions than Park Ki Young”
because of her ability to sing some American songs in English which she performs with emotional impact.
But please don’t judge a vocalist by the number of requests you receive-altho your fans are usually right.
But I’m a professional singer and my singing friends unanimously agree that both So Hyang and Park Ki Young are not only world class vocalists but equal in talent.
What I’m trying to say is I believe Park Ki Young deserves far more reactions and I promise you and your subscribers who love So Hyang ( and I am among them) that you won’t be disappointed listening to a Park Ki Young song. They are both about the same age ( early 40s but look amazing for their age!) and the closest and best of friends.
