Apple Music and Spotify are the top two players in the music streaming game. But the services have very different histories, which has influenced everything from their feature sets to their user interfaces, with most people having a preference for one service or the other. And in this video, I’m going to explain how Apple Music has evolved to become a serious competitor to Spotify, despite Apple entering the market seven years later.

Apple has the means to pay for it, but when you look at the bigger picture, apple music has a much smaller customer base than spotify does since spotify has a free version. This means that artists get paid the same, if not more by spotify as they get more plays

Back when iOS 8.4 it was always stuttering, and then ios9 have duplicated tracks in the library and download was terrible. Now it’s not much better, HD music videos are gone on mobile devices.

The search options of Library vs. Apple Music is actually my favorite part about Apple Music and part of why I hate using Spotify. It narrows down your search so well and quickly presents to me the exact song I'm looking for instead of having to dig for it.
Emma Mizrahi exactly! even spotify themselves implemented something similar, they’re just separated (to search in your library on spotify, you have to go to your liked songs and scroll all the way up until you see a search bar)

Exactly this. After switching from Google Play Music, I'm so glad I can search only my library, when I want to. With GPM I actually had to go offline with my phone, in order to search own library only. Spotify wasn't any better in this regard either.

I am actually one of the few of my friends that use Apple Music, and I have gotten close to switching multiple times, but the fact that I cannot listen to downloaded music on Spotify kept holding me back and I’m officially staying with Apple Music now.

Honestly, the main reason I use Apple Music is how well my local files integrate with the downloaded files from Apple music - I can't seem to replicate this on Spotify and this simple feature makes Apple music more worth it than Spotify for me.

I used Spotify for like 6 years and switched to apple music for a few different reasons. Overall I think it's better. I even use Apple music on my OnePlus 7 Pro as well, the app on Android is the same as iOS now.

Ovr Sd If anything, alternating from Apple Music to Spotify (on a 1 month free trial) I found that a lot of my favorite albums and songs weren’t available on Spotify, which was a clear indicator to stick with Apple Music.

The lyrics is amazing it’s so great how I can just click on a lyric and it skips immediately. Like those long intros sometimes I just wana skip it I can easily do that now instead of memorising what time in the song to skip to
If Apple Music discovery worked as well as Spotify I’d switch. It seems to be good when it comes to mainstream music but as it cant do simple things like create a playlist related to the music I’m actually listening to instead of what it thinks I should be listening to, its a pain to use, last I checked it (few months ago).

I switched to Apple Music from relying upon .mp3s in my Android and I'm happy. It's just that it's slow to load but it's a better experience now. (I rarely use it in my iOS device though).

Quite the opposite for me. Apple music is for some reason much buggier and slower than spotify on my 7 plus even tho it's technically a native iOS app doesn't make any sense. It also drains battery much more than spotify.
No One: I just switched because I’ve got it free for 3 months, I’ll more than likely switch back as well, it’s very buggy and just a bunch of other minor things that makes me prefer Spotify or even RUclips music
No One: weird 🤔 Honestly I haven’t had a single issue in those aspects, no bugs at all and feels much smoother and optimized than Spotify. Also, it’s great for me that I can use “Hey Siri” to play any song, skip, fast forward, raise volume, etc... thing you can’t do with no other music app.

I recently switched to Apple Music after being with Spotify for 9 years. I had Apple Music in 2015 and it sucked but recently started loving Apple Music a lot mostly I like the lyrics feature, the playback screen when you have a song playing, Apple 1 radio and the other radio stations they have. Also I get Apple Music with my Verizon account!

My only real complaint with Apple Music is I wish it was easy to find brand new/old music, curated to your tastes, on the service. It’s so easy to find new and old music alike on Spotify through their various curated playlists. Whereas, it feels like a whole mission to find music in the same way on Apple Music. Otherwise, I prefer Apple Music > Spotify.
I tried Apple Music for a week and I just couldn’t do it. The Spotify interface is so much more pleasant to use and navigate, with so many tailored playlists

One thing keeping me on spotify is the ability to control playback features from any device. I tend to connect my headphones to my phone and use the music control keys on my computer while working to change tracks.
To be fair this is mostly a convenience and battery life issue, but I used apple music for a month and always felt like I was missing that one handy spotify feature.

I usually enjoy apple music on apple watch and airpods, its really nice to not have to pick up my phone to change the song, or streaming music when im working out.
4:48 This is strange complaint in my view. In search, Apple Music and your library are still separated and that makes a lot of sense. Apple Music users are legacy iTunes users which means we value our library the process of building it out. As such, I know what's in my library and will choose to search for it there when I need it. But if I or a friend just wants to listen to something random, they can search Apple Music. This doesn't bug me or literally anyone I know at all.
I'm an android phone user and still use Apple Music over Spotify for
1) it's clean and minimalist look
2) Apple Music recommendation works better for me than spotify.

I’d like to be able to have dark mode on Apple Music only. I’m not a fan of how it looks overall. I think that’d be a great feature to add onto iOS 13: the ability to choose which specific apps you want to have dark mode on.

I usually just listen to songs I've purchased but when i want to stream, I use RUclips music. Other apps like Spotify are definitely better for discovery, but i usually have a particular song or artist I'm looking for anyway, and i love not having ads on RUclips

I can’t express how many times I searched music and it showed nothing, then it took me a while to realize that the result was in my library instead of the whole Apple Music
I’ve been a dedicated fan of Apple Music since its first release day 1! I enjoy it fully. Only thing I wish they brought back was bigger album art. As a die hard music fan both digitally and purchasing vinyls as well as being a photographer... I miss looking at the artwork while music is playing. All of that is part of an experience.
Spotify is still the superior streaming service (and that’s coming from someone who uses everything apple), the one advantage Apple Music has over Spotify is the integrated lyrics which Spotify replaced for that weird ‘behind the lyrics’ stuff.

I like how ‘Your Library’ and ‘Apple Music’ are separated on the Search tab because it’s easier to find songs when you have so much downloaded when you’re offline.
Oh, and I LOVE REAL-TIME LYRICS. IT’S SATISIFYING AF
The thing that makes me prefer Apple Music is the fact that I don’t have to use the online service and I can just download music through a RUclips converter an put them on my phone without being limited to 6 skips an hour or locked behind a paywall.

I was with apple but I think spotify is where il stay even with all theses new things they keep adding at apple music.
Even though I’m using iPhones since 2010 (have an XS Max now) I simply can’t leave Spotify since I can seamlessly jump from my tv app to my Echo Dot when I’m in the kitchen and then jump back to my PlayStation App and have music in the background while I play Pes 2020. The integration Spotify has with multiple devices is still unmatched for me.

NOW I UPDATED TO CATALINA AND I CANNOT PLAY ANY OF MY OLD MUSIC THAT I HAD FROM MY CDS , SO OVER APPLE, I'M FINALLY TRADING MY MACBOOK AND GETTING A WINDOWS COMPUTER, DOING WHATEVER I WANT WITH MY SONGS IS A BIG PART OF MY LIFE, EVENTUALLY GETTING AN ADROID PHONE , GAVE APPLE SO MANY CHANCES AFTER BEING WITH THEM PRETTY MUCH MY WHOLE LIFE!
I still love iTunes! because it's your Local Music Player! it doesn't need internet! I can play all my songs without internal! without apple that's my music not someone else's.

@ 4:46 personally I think it makes perfect sense to separate your library from Apple Music. Let’s say for example you download a song on Spotify and you don’t have a lot of data, and the song exists as a single but also exists as a track in an album. If you wanted to play the song without using your data, you could accidentally play your song from the album and then you would have to worry about whether or not you’re using your data (assuming you don’t have much data coz music generally doesn’t use up that much)
I remember when Taylor Swift (😘) spoke publicly about how Apple didn't pay artists in the trial period. That was iconic. Apple has learned a lot about the music industry all along this way. Good job, Apple.

For listeners of classical music and jazz it's a lot simpler to have a separation between the searches in your library and Apple Music since a lot of tracks have been recorded several hundred times by different artists. Not being able to search just for what's in my library makes Spotify pretty uncomfortable to use for me

@@khaijerry2705 Here's the picture: You are listening to this great song and you are not sure if it's already added to a specific playlist. You won't be able to know until you go through the playlist itself, song by song, as Apple Music does not warn you about duplicated songs being added to a playlist. That's when a search bar within a playlist comes in really handy.
Apple has more songs than Spotify and is easy to use and will be here for the long run and Spotify won’t. Oh, and they pay artists more. The only downside is that it sucks on mac and windows due to the interface but on iOS it works greats.
Apple Music needs the “end of year review” thing similar to what Spotify has which shows what you’ve been listening to the most etc in the year..
LST They added that a couple weeks ago. I've now got personal top 100 songs playlists for each year I've been using AM, all the way back to 2015. I love it. It's called Apple Music Replay. I don't know how it compares to Spotify though... never used it.

I feel like I'm one of the few people who stream, but also downloads and buys music. There are online stores that sell 320mbps mp3s for very little money ($0.20 to $0.50 per song). That little bit of money gives more than most people streaming the song and paying the subscription will .I use my old ipod sometimes because the battery life is great and nostalgic. I stream through google play music. It gets the job done for the most part and it was just a bonus for youtube red. I still like to "own" my music though. What happens in 10 or 20 years? Will these services still be around? There goes all your playlists and maybe having to re-find all your songs. The fact they have the ability to import your owned song along with streaming songs is cool, but they also have the will to ban your songs if it is something they don't like or align with. They can censor songs on the service or your own music. Similar to me buying physical video games. Digital purchases are like a long time rental. Digital mp3s are forever as long as it is backed up

I switched a week before the iOS 13 launch and honestly, it became better in iOS 13. The ONLY things I miss after having Spotify for 3 years is controlling music on multiple devices (like if I have a party I connect my tablet to speakers and play music through that THEN use Spotify on my iPhone to skip tracks, select a different playlist, etc. without manually having to walk back and forth to my tablet just to do so)
Another thing is Spotify’s algorithm. Damn it sure as hell knows what I like. Only negative part about having an algorithm as great as that is if my friend plays some music on my phone, Spotify’s algorithm thinks I like that kind of music so I get bombarded by that artist for the next 2 months or so, until it realized I skip that genre/artist every.single.time. so it stops on recommending that artist again. Lol.
Also, their Today’s Top Hits keep me on top of the chart toppers but I hate Despacito types of songs so I wish there was a way to permanently block a certain genre or artist FOREVER.
Searching music Apple takes the crown but in music personalization algorithms, Spotify is still King... I use both services.
I use Apple products love them .....but would never use Apple Music..... I dislike the interface, it just does not feel intuitive I have lots of cds uploaded to iTunes 1500 songs CDs I no longer have along with purchased tracks .....I would never risk losing them, I have heard of so many people who have had problems with losing hundreds tracks...... I’ll stick with Spotify for streaming ......

I use both Apple Music and Spotify I love Spotify because of the Crossfade feature I know Apple Music offers this on the Mac why can’t they just bring it over to iOS devices.
Apple iCloud music replaced all my songs with versions from Apple, which sometimes was the wrong song, and when I turned it off I had lost all my library
Being able to switch between devices easily and having a higher music selection makes Spotify much better to use. Only sad thing is that you can’t control many aspects through Siri

My only issue with Apple Music is the fact so many songs randomly become ‘unavailable in my region’ and therefore I can’t play them, it’s even worse how they stay in your playlists but are just greyed out, it’s so annoying
I switched from apple music to spotify after more than 2 years of using apple music, the only thing that i like better in apple music is that you can organize your library based on artist and album combined instead of having to choose one, other than that both of them are great.

I remember when my Windows mobile phone got rid of it's music app and replaced it with Spotify. I wasn't a fan of it as much as I was the Windows app. But Apples music service hasn't let me down and it is seamless to me. I ain't no Apple fanboy, but I have to say that I like what they're working with.
As an Apple Music user and as someone who tried our Spotify I can tell you that Spotify isn’t as good and also since Apple Music managed to become so good and has so many users using it Spotify are blasting everyone with ads on RUclips in hopes of getting their customers back, that’s just sad

I'm using apple music since 2015 and i love this! i actually switched from iphone to xiaomi last year, but i'm still using AM, because android's version is the same as ios' one. i tried to use spotify, but it didnt really work for me as good as apple music. and spotify isnt officially released in russia (but we can still use it) and apple music for students costs like 1 dollar and this is a great deal!
personally biggest reason i dont get Apple music instead of Spotify (i dont like Spotify)
1. it will not work on my Galaxy Watch, Chromecast and Linux Spotify is virtually supported on any OS on this planet
2. although there is an Android app as of now, we dont have a guarantee that wouldn't apple will just burn the app one day and make android users switch to another service or get an iPhone
