I love that we both have Charm City Cakes stories! Duff totally bombed my wedding cake. The consultation was fabulous, Duff was great, the taster cakes were amazing, and we were HYPED for it! Our actual cake was the wrong flavor and it wasn't fully cooked. We specifically asked for NO FONDANT because the taster cakes didn't have fondant and we got fondant. The design was much more basic than we thought it would be. If he still had a shop here, 4/10 would not recommend.
How did I not know you also had a cake by them?! (And they’re very much still around!). City Paper named them best “Form Over Function” one year, talking about how they were pretty to look at but that’s it. They…didn’t like that.
@@GlitterFalloutI had no idea! I bet they didn't like that! Fondant is pretty, but it tastes like straight sugar and chews like bubble gum that dissolves in the worst way. Especially at that price point! I think I paid the same for mine.
Omg, so I just recently found your channel and have been SO IN LOVE with your style, makeup, personality, everything, and I SWEAR I saw your Ace of Cakes episode back when it aired! My mom and I used to watch that show together all the time when I was in high school, and your cake / you guys always stood out as my favorite cake and couple ever on the show!! Even then, I was obsessed with your style and your humor. ❤ I'm super "whatever" about weddings and if I ever get married myself I literally want the most chill, backyard-type wedding, BUT if someone were to make me an outrageous hair metal cake with a C.C. Deville hat on top, I would actually die of happiness. 😍🤘🏼🎂🎩
Ok, your comment MADE MY DAY. Thank you so much! It's so strange to think we were remembered, and so, so sweet! But a CC Deville cake would be AMAZING and now I kind of desperately want you to have that. haha
@@GlitterFallout This literally made me smile from ear to ear! (And I’m so happy my last comment did the same for you! 😄) And seriously, that C.C. cake….. even if I never get married, I DO have a birthday every year, SOOO…. one way or another, it needs to happen!!!! 🤣😍
OMG LINDA. I remember that episode when it aired specifically bc of having to peel the plastic! 😂 My BFF was on Ambush MakeOver and that show was entirely fake. She had a friend that was a co-producer and they just got their friends and family to be "ambushed." There were absolutely NO stranger ambushes bc no one actually wanted to do it. People have lives and plans and don't have time. The new cut, color, makeup, clothes etc was all planned out before filming started.
I have definitely seen that episode on a rerun. Also I'm sure that if I was put in front of a camera I knew would be on TV I would have been even weirder. Thankfully that's never happened.
Very cool story! My sister used to have a cake business & she was the best I've seen to date. People don't want to pay for her time, so she quit. But her IG is still up, it's cakes by Stiles. She made everything looks so realistic. it's crazy.
The Cake Dance.. every creator trip you are going to be doing the cake dance now. Lol what a cool story Linda. I loved it❤ and I loved you hair in that clip. It’s so so cute
I’ve never watched any “reality” TV shows as I’ve always thought they were fake and scripted for the most part. Thank you for sharing your story! I do remember you talking about this before and sharing a clip of you seeing the cake. So cool to hear the rest of what happened.
I loved the show Ace of Cakes! Me and my sisters watched it all the time. Fun Fact - my sister just turned 40 and graduated nursing school last month and her fiancé got her a celebrity cameo (where a celebrity wishes you happy birthday and congrats by name and makes it personal for you) and it was from Duff because my sister loves him and his cake shows :)
OMG!!! I do remember that episode..... I always knew those custom cakes were pricey... I don't know how people expect you to recreate a spontaneous reaction.. super cute though!.
I nearly agreed to be on a TV docu series in Sweden, which handled questions around Adult Topics... It was an educational show which had a segment where they talked about "special interests". The production team was given my user name by a friend of mine after they found her on a "special interest" web community I was also a part of. They found a tiny detail on my profile which they wanted me to talk about and I did chat to them and they had some ideas of what they wanted to film. After a couple of calls I backed out though, and I am so relieved I did. This tiny little detail was blown up to be something super important to me, which it wasn't really, and I was only about 19 years old. I would NOT have wanted that out in the world!
Thank you for sharing the backstory of this experience! I recall that over the years, you've mentioned it before briefly and showed a short clip. Your cake looked very cool, and you looked gorgeous in your wedding ensemble! 🤩
Our wedding cake was a wedding gift from my husbands childhood friends mom. We did layers too, Strawberries and Cream, Chocolate and Carrot cake. I asked my husband to marry me and the first thing he did when we got up the next morning was open a spreadsheet, yes, I married a virgo. I brought the whole things, rings dress and all in for under $10,000 in 2002. Not bad for a SoCal wedding.
My neighbor was on Wife Swap and it was 100% scripted. Both families were playing a role. As far as cake prices, they are high but (especially with independent bakers) you are paying for experience, expertise, and time above milk and eggs. With Duff you are also paying for the name.
Wife Swap always seemed like such a crazy experience, but definitely WAY over-exaggerated, too. No families are like that. haha. Oh and with Duff, when we signed on, he wasn't a name yet, really. The first season hadn't even aired yet, and that show made him a name. But totally agree you're paying for the expertise!
I have the deepest orange Kokie gradient blush, not sure why I selected it for my pale skin, but used extremely sparingly, it does look lovely on my cheeks! It will last me for 100 years, probably! Love your blue eye look!
@@GlitterFallout I should have guessed. I’m so sorry. I did just find out I’m legit friend of a friend with an actual Tony winner, so I’m pretty much right up there myself. 😜
I loved that show so I know I absolutely saw your episode. I think those clips actually sparked some memories. To think years later now in our forties I would find you on here!
That’s awesome. Duffy did a black hawk cake in Hawaii for the Army back in 2008 or 2009 my daughter was stationed there at the time but she couldn’t help with the sure because she was pregnant and it was really long hours. But she got to meet everyone.
I live for discovering reality show connections and backstories. 😂 I do vaguely remember this cake on the show. Also so sorry I would also be that friend reminding you of your fame and dance.
I remember Ace of Cakes, and I remember seeing some of the bakers on my way to work through Remington. Most special order cakes are really expensive, and they just get more expensive year over year.
Great video- and no, I have never been on reality tv. I never would on purpose either, you are much braver than I. I do however have great wedding cake stories!
My best friends daughter was unfortunately on "16 and pregnant" and then there were all these spin offs with her having a second baby too all before 18. My best friend was her mom and there was drama and wanted me on at one point and nooooo thanks I did not lol
One of my colleagues was on House Hunters International and a good portion was faked. They already had a rental and the show misrepresented other elements about their situation. I also had a coworker who had dated a woman who was on The Bachelor. She told him that things were definitely edited to misrepresent what really happened. They also kept the booze flowing and minimal food where they were staying.
Oh, any of those dating shows were just drunk-fests apparently! I used to watch Rock of Love and so many of the women barely remember even being on the show. It's ridiculous.
I'm curious if you were compensated for your time? I feel like you should have gotten a discount for your cake at least for all the time and inconvenience. Making your guests wait alone should have been compensated. But the cake looked amazing and so did you.
We were absolutely not compensated in any way - I probably should have stated that. But this was in the (kind of?) earlier stages of reality tv, so we didn't even think to ask for it.
Wait so they didn’t compensate you guys at all for being on the show? Like not even a discount on the cake? I would have told them nope just drop off the cake at the wedding thanks 😆
So very cool!! This was one of my favorite shows back then. Don't remember this episode, but thanks for sharing! All the baking shows are what motivated me to start my little side baking business, Jane's Sweet Addiction. 🧁🤘🏼❤
The fact that you didn’t get comped in any way for being on the show is 🤯
I feel like cake should have been gifted to you!
Not me paying $850 for a naked cake and 200 cupcakes for my daughter's wedding this year. 😮
my sister just spent $300 on CAKE POPS from someone and they were the ugliest cake pops ever. lumpy, bumpy, and plain. we were all so mad for her lol.
How is flour + sugar + eggs SO EXPENSIVE?!

My wedding cake was $400 and that was enough to make me feel ill... $800 and they would've had to carry me out on a stretcher.
Could I bake a cake that looks that good? HELLLLL no. But it still seems so excessive, right?
