I use this to check case fan speeds. When one gets out of range, I know it's time to replace them. It's an easy and inexpensive way to prevent the overheating and replacement of other parts due to a bad fan. I need a no-contact laser tach for this job and found this one to be a good value. So far it has performed well.
It shoots me out a reading once per second when in use. I find the "max" and "min" values to be very handy when determining whether it's time to replace a unit. Often times, a high or a low reading is an indication of the part starting to go bad.
Now I won't be using this every day, but since I got it a good price-point, I can justify it sitting around for a few months at a time without use if need be. There's been a few other uses I've been thinking about trying it out for in the garage, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Overall, it's done what it's supposed to. I'll be reporting back if I have any issues down the road.
