All these ideas are blowing my “cruise budget” up substantially! Thanks for the ideas.
You honestly need very little of this stuff.
Same here! I'll never have to buy cruise stuff again! Except clothes, purses, shoes...!
Did that crusing with kids for the 1st time. Used most of what I bought.
@@larrybrown2470 lol, only ideas
I decorate our doors because my FIL for our next cruise turns 84 and helps him find HIS door!!
Yes! I just did this with a dry erase board for my 80+ year old FIL.
@@theresabernal-wg9gh very practical!!
Take a picture of your cabin door so you can remember the cabin number. Take less stuff, not more.
On our last cruise we has so many magnets that we actually put them on the walls. We didn't realize that some of them were glow in the dark and stayed illuminated for the majority of the night!! They did end up serving a purpose because knowing where they were located made it easier to get around the cabin during the night. When we ended up taking them down, getting ready to get off the ship the cabin just seemed to be plan. So I would encourage to get glow in the dark magnets from Amazon for the room and a couple of fun ones for the cabin door!
Towel clips!! - great for hanging wet suits/clothes as well. Laundry sheets are amazing for sink washing or laundrette. Lots of magnet hooks to hang up hats, bag/purse, dollar tree shoe organizer, lanyards when we arent wearing them and they help keep things off floor/counters. We use a small magnetic whiteboard/calendar w/ magnetic marker/eraser combo to leave notes to our stateroom attendant; like to keep ice bucket filled or if we need more towels. Also notes/reminders about meet and greets or events we dont want to miss and we cross off the days as we go (although it's sad when you know you're getting close to the end of your trip 😢). We love using our night lights bc they're the perfect size, rechargeable, magnetic and have a switch to make it motion sensor or stay on (came in a pack of two with the usb charging chord). We usually put one in the bathroom by the door because its easier on the eyes in the middle of the night 😂 and one in the room by the floor of the bed to see the way to the bathroom. We have one personalized door magnet decoration to help locate cabin and it's fun! A non-surge protected strip w/braided retractable chord when not in use. Clear totes are great for all our toiletries and first aid kit extras - its easier to find things and keeps liquids contained in case of spills.
I think we just may have to get the folding hangers instead of asking for extras. Love your videos. So informative and fun!😊 Excited for our next cruise this December for New Years Eve!! 🥂🍾 Happy Cruising everyone! 🛳 💖😎
@@TheAndiVi good idea about the totes! Thanks for sharing 👏🛳️⚓️
I took that little fan on my last cruise and when I hung my bathing suit up in the shower where there was no air circulation, I put the fan in and closed the shower door. It worked amazing.
@@cheryladams6552 awesome!
Towel clips have multi purpose uses. Put some in shower curtain bottoms so it doesn't cling to you. Mini fridge units, pul it out as far as you can and put a clip in the top o the door so it can function properly for circulation to make the unit get cooler
Ilana, have you considered doing a Life Well Cruised personalized magnet that folks can put on their cabin door? I would totally be down with buying one!!!😉
I really never thought of it but I like your idea!
We use the towel clips (not bands) for the reasons you mentioned - multi-purpose for drying clothes, etc. Love your channel!
I was just on Norwegian in March and so many people had their doors decorated. I told my friend I wished we would’ve done that. It was so cute.
@@SherBear88 wow, thanks for sharing this!
Towel bands, takes up less room packing, but clips are soooo cute!!!
Going on a cruise in 51 days, going to try laundry sheets!!!
These are great. I want to say thank you because I just got done with my first cruise and your videos/items in your description made all the difference in the world.
We started with a full set of chair clips for the whole family. They really cute but they take up a lot of space. We use the bands now
I love that you always put the link to the items you recommend!!!! I love your videos even after 12 cruises I still find new ideas I hadn’t thought of!😊
We just got off the NCL GEM w weeks ago. We put several decorations on our front door & never heard a peep from the cruise line. It's always an easy way to find your room quickly.
I use magnetic hooks to put the clothesline AND fan up in the bathroom. The fan blows on the wet clothing, making it dry much faster! You can even plug the fan into a power bank so it will last longer.
Ilana, please consider the inflatable clothes hanger if you are trying to dry men polo shirts. They fold small and separate the sides so air circulates the inside too!
Also I have plastic hooks, that will go over a closet rod, with a clip on them. These are stronger than those that have what looks like a clothes pin on them -- that we all have broken within 3 uses. Mine were designed to hold the weight of a boot. I’ve used them a few times for laundry, for a curtain closure, and hiked on a wall magnet with papers attached. They’ll also work to hold hats better and if there are two hats, at different heights on the room peg.
For the folding plug extender I had to really look to find that this will not run on 220v it’s listed as I recall at 125v. I know have have a block that is charger only -- now I’m wondering if there is one like yours that will run on 220v. My guess is no but power strips can be found that will. Mine is 3 plugs long and it pretty much ignored as its plug is European. And yes, I have an adapter that will convert the plug to US.
Lately we seem to be cruising on non closed routes. This has meant that we often have at least 2 sets of adapters and maybe a third for the cruise, but they work well. Love the items you find.
Both towel clips and bands
We use towels bands. We personalized them with permanent markers.
I took the laundry sheets on my last cruise-they are fabulous. I also love the clothesline with clips. I have switched to towel bands-light and easy to pack.
Hi Ilana! We were on a Mexican cruise out of Galveston last week. We went with some friends, and on the first night at dinner, they kept talking about "Ilana says". I told them I'd been following you for awhile. The magnetic hook hack is one of the best. We were in a suite but used them for so many things. Our friends we in an inside room with a window, and used them everywhere - even the ceiling! Your tips are the best.
I've had a similar travel washing line for donkeys years. I've used it in hotel room balconies all over the world and in bathrooms to dry hand-washed undies, wet swimsuits etc.
Great to know
I prefer the medium size hanging toiletry bag. I bought it first and then my hubbie wanted one for himself. It is really ideal for cruising or going on a vacation. Love it 😊
I took that fan on a recent retreat - it's nice that it lasts all night, in fact lasted 2 nights, and provides some circulation and white noise. Pleased with it.
I bought A4 magnetic paper online and printed my own custom door sign for our honeymoon cruise and will be doing so for our future cruises too
I love my cruise door magnet decorations. I also have a magnetic whiteboard with a magnetic erasable marker (from Amazon) that I put on our cabin door. People leave messages and I take a picture at the end of each cruise! Fun memories! 😊
Love the magnet hooks and laundry sheets
I've resisted for a long time, but I just bought the cruise door decorations. I have 4 cruises booked over the next couple of years, and my daughter will, too, so they will get used.
I would love to see some kind of magnetic wall attaching fan with a goose neck for use on cruises.
I do love the towel clips but a word of advice; spend a bit more money on better, sturdier ones; I saw pkg of 20 for about $10.00 gave them to friends I was cruising with and most of them snapped and broke. Spend wisely!
i LOVE THE PACKING CUBES, AND THE HANGING MEDIUM BAG
I cruise NCL, and always decorate our door (or the wall since some doors are tucked in instead of them all being flush), and so far have had no issues. I decorate either a honeycomb flamingo, or pumpkin, or Christmas stocking depending on the season. These fold flat for travel. I use magnets to put them up. I also write on the back of the trip it went on. (The flamingo is well traveled). People comment on how it helps them find their room too! 😊
I had bought some car detail magnets, large 60s-style daisies, for our cabin door, just so it would stand out and be easier to find. Two things happened: One, we were on Norwegian and they weren't allowed. Two, our room was 4 rooms from the end of the hallway near the elevator, so our room was easy to find. Oh well.
lol good idea anyway
I have the medium toiletry bag, I love it and have gifted it as well. Thank you for all your great tips!
Yes we brought hanging toiletry bag because we will use it for future trips
I just purchased those packing cubes. I have so many sets, but these are so much nicer and has a clear card holder to label what's inside! They will be going with us on a cruise next week!
Our last trip was a sea/land tour to Alaska was an eye opener for me. I love packing cubes but changing hotels each day for almost a week taught me that next time I will mix cube colors to reduce the need to open several before finding what I was looking for. Had not relocated frequently on prior trips but I plan on making sure I don’t have this problem again,
I use towel bands to save space
Thanks for all of your information!!!
Your advise is always outstanding. Seriously Hun, a backpack and a suit bag is all I bring. 17 days was my longest to date
We are going for our anniversary and we purchased the anniversary decorations package
We took a transatlantic cruise last month and used the motion sensor light. It was so bright in the cabin we moved it into the bathroom. It was great because we didn’t need to turn on the light in the middle of the night.
Definitely a towel clip person. I think they're really cute and is easier to see my chair!
I have some different plug in nightlights on order with Amazon. My three week cruise starts in 25 days, and I decided that since I'm in an inside cabin, I need a few nightlights. They only come on in the dark, but I'll unplug them in the day. I figure I'll put one in the bathroom, and one in the room, so I don't break a leg, if I have to get up during the night. Four for $10.
PS. I use a non-surge protected outlet that plugs into the Euro outlet, that every cruise ship has. This way, you don't use up a US standard outlet. It has two spaces for two US plugs, three USB A's, and a USB C.
The packing cubes were awesome
I use large clothes pins that I got from the dollar store to clip the towel to the chair and have decorations for my cabin door
I just read an article on Cruisehive that Royal Caribbean just banned multi plug outlets (the ones without a cord). Total bummer.
Specifically for cruising, I use two medium hanging toiletry bags - one for my personal care and cosmetics and the other for medication and first aid (which I store in my suitcase under the bed until needed). Love my clothesline but wish it had more attached clips!
I always use laundry sheets, handsoap sheets as well as my own personal pack of flushable toilet seat covers...just a few, you never know!
I used to use towel clips but the last trip I got hooked on towel bands. now I do keep one towel clip to close the curtains.
I use towel clips. I also just bought the medium size hanging bag and it was perfect for a 12 night cruise.
I like towel bands. But I do use magnetic silicone cable ties. I use them to corral charging cables, but I can also use them like clothes pins for socks and underwear for drying after hand washing.
We did bring over the door hangers which we will use for India trip as we go every year and our room at moms apt has very little space to keep our clothes so this will come in handy
Really appreciate all of your tips. I’ll be picking up the fan and non surge cubes.
Just purchased the fan for our upcoming Southern Caribbean cruise. No batteries required and under $20 on Amazon!
Fabulous video! We bring bands and clothes pins (these are a bit smaller). As for the toiletry bags - we have the large and medium....depending on the length of the cruise. (I have the ones you have and love them!)
That is a really cool item Ilana!! I did give my room to my magnet hooks when we left our last crus so I will have to get some more but luckily they’re not too expensive. I do pack in packing cubes and I love them. By the way, I just bought those laundry sheets for Home and it will be great to take on the cruise with us.!!! I have towel clips!
I worked with stateroom statements for a magnet with the crime cruise logo so we could tell where others were! They will keep your design if you do a personal one and you don't have to buy in bulk!
I carried magnet hooks and magnetic door decoration on my last cruise, on board the Volendam. Wouldn't you know, the walls & door were not steel.
For my first cruise, I found a magnetic coat rack with 4 hooks on Amazon. It can hold up to 15lbs. I liked it and I'll use it on my next cruise.
We have the motion sensor light. It was perfect.
Love the new hair do :)
Royal just updated the prohibited list today to include multi-plug outlets. They are calling it a potential flammable item because the plugs may not be able to handle the load. Saw the article today on Cruise Hive. 😞
I saw that too!!! Celebrity will be next and more to follow.
Towel bands plus they take up less luggage space.
Love your videos! Please read up on laundry sheets/pods. They are made with polyvinyl alcohol (plastic) and when they dissolve, they release microplastics into our water supply and oceans.
Towel clips all the way!
Thanks Ilana!!
We are cruising in November and I got one of the cube outlet/charger!! We always have a battle of plug ins when we cruise....
I got a fan like yours, and then superglue a thin piece of magnet to the leg, and it hangs from the ceiling.
Medium pink hanging bag
We have used the washing sheets for a few years now and they are excellent!!! I think i will look for that clothesline as we have 3b2bin January and that would be very handy thank you!!...viv
Thanks for the video. I think you do the best videos…I subscribe to several for cruising…and you are the best.. 😊😊
Please note that Royal Caribbean and affiliates (ie Celebrity) have specifically added multi-plug items to their prohibited list. This is a constant point of conversation on the Facebook groups. It would be helpful if you stated that even though they are “cruise approved” they are actually not allowed on some lines. You might get them through, but there is a reason they are prohibited.
Hi Ilana….i took a non Princess cruise, the travel clothes line is fantastic…i went on a 16 Panama Canal cruise with a friend and it was NCI. I use that non surge cube on a cruise and at home too!, I use towel clips but I might test out the bands. I want to try the magnet decorations for my 21 day TA..its my birthday month and my travel companions also…Thanks Ilana🚢🙂
Going on my first cruise Sunday 22nd but I bought towel bands.
We’re cruising with my parents and my dad has Alzheimer’s, so planning on decorating our doors to help make it easier for him to find our cabins. 😊
If he has Alzheimer’s please watch him carefully.
@@kj7045 Yes, we plan on it. He’s still earlier stages so we’re trying to get in a last trip before he declines too much further. He knows not to leave our cabins alone, but I have an AirTag ready for him just in case. With most of the family going, this will also give my mom some respite time from being his caregiver so she can try to relax a bit. Thank you 😊
🙏🏽
Hey Llana, I’m just wondering what is something else we can do now that Royal Caribbean has banned multiuse plugs can’t wait for you to have a video on this
I bought the magnet hooks and the power cube for an upcoming MSC cruise. When we sailed on NCL Viva in January, the cabin doors are not magnetic so decorating was not available .
and boo to RCCL for their recent banishing power strips and cubes (9/18)
We have been on numerous cruises but I've never paid attention the walls in the bathroom. Will the magnetic hooks work in the bathrooms? I've used them in the interior of the cabin but never thought about the actual restroom.
People say they use the towel clips for hanging their clothing etc on the balcony, but most cruise lines forbid this
I don’t use towel holder downers.
I do have towel clips that I pack with me every single cruise, but I never use them
We did not bring towel clips really as we did minimal laundry and waited til we got home
The hanging toiletry bag - medium for sure - has been one of my standards, tried another and it just wasn't as good. And we are team towel clips.
I seen an announcement yesterday that Royal will not even allow a multi outlet anymore even if it is a non surge.
I just purchased towel band sets just for easy and packing light & flat. I find towel clips break and take up too much room.
towel clips
I checked out the iWalk from another video on this channel and they are only available for iPhone 15. I would have liked something small like that for my iPhone 13. I did buy the larger charger you recommended from another video with the litup paw on the front.
I found some for IPhone 12,13,&14 on Amazon!
Our Holland America veranda room had no metal walls at all only the inside of the bathroom door.
Hahaha, your large hanging toiletries bag is almost as large as my carry-on - and i only travel with a carry-on.
I love the black dress in your video. Can you share where you bought it? 😊
I just bought those sensor nightlights for inside the bathroom. I hate turning on the bright light in the middle of the night as it wakes me up. I am hoping this softer light will stop that.
Actually, I ordered a door decoration Porthole Magnet and plan to use it on my upcoming cruise. I’ve heard different views on the battery operated hanging lights. I plan to put them on the door, not sure if the cabin attendant will allow it. Have you heard if it’s a hazard? I have the hanging bag, a small one, and will pack it on this cruise too! Thanks for sharing
My Magnets always slide down the wall when something is put on it, no matter how light
Thanks much. Waiting on standby for cruise on 9/28- should be hearing soon…
Can you do video on Standby with Holland America?😊
The iWalk charge bank looks great. Would it be allowed on Royal Caribbean, now that they’ve banned some charging stations?
Alana, can you please add a link to the Tru Earth laundry sheets?
Towel bands
Both
I just read on the Cruise Hive newsletter that multi-plug outlets are no longer allowed on Royal Caribbean ships. I did look, and unfortunately, it does show up on their prohibited list. Having said that, we just got back from a cruise this last Sunday, and nobody said anything about ours. So . . . 🤷♀️
Yes Norwegian we did not see decorations on doors
I think there is a new power cube rule announced today. Have you heard anything?
Ilana!!!!! ❌🆘 Did Royal Caribbean just ban those multi-plug outlets? The non-surge that you plug in, in one outlet, and then can plug multiple things into that??
Trivia...why are doors metal? Two reasons. Weight and a fire rating
