I take a small co trainer of baby powder. When you are at the beach, you sprinkle this on your feet and all the sand falls off. It's great if you don't have a foot wash nearby. Just sprinkle, rub off and you can put on your shoes with no sand. Any type of powder should work.

We bring the motion sensor night light on every cruise and attach it to the ceiling near the bathroom but facing the main door (so as not to disturb anyone sleeping). I place a piece of card stock (junk paper in the cabin) between the ceiling and the extremely strong magnet. Getting that magnet to unlatch from the ceiling is time-consuming.

Use that fan on a hook in the bathroom, blowing air on the clothing you've hung up to dry. First time I tried drying a couple items, it took days. Adding the fan meant stuff dried overnight! I even plugged the fan into a power bank so it ran longer.

In between cruises, I have the motion sensor light magnetically attached to the side of my spare fridge in the garage. Don't have to fumble for the light switch when entering the garage in the evening. Battery lasts a long time. Also my for travel magnet hooks do double duty in the kitchen affixed to the side of the fridge to hang oven mitts.

  • @somaliskinnypirate

The fan and magnets are essential. I think that's the same fan I have which has a built-in rechargeable battery - lasts a long time. I have done exactly what you just mentioned - hung from a couple magnet hooks so the airflow can hit both of us at just the right angle. Leaving tomorrow for my third cruise :) For the tech folks, I'd recommend a GL.Inet type router - it allows you to share the a single device WiFi (while in the room) with all your devices instead of the massive fee cruise ships charge.

I have to confirm the other comment that airlines are cracking down on “extra” personal items like neck pillows. You might have to cram it into your carryon or purse.
However, I’m still glad I bought the stuffable neck pillow, because I can always carry it empty, put my jacket inside it after I board the plane and it’s a good pillow then.

@dianemonforte4350 - Alaska is my favorite vacation destination! Have been on five cruises there so far, all on Celebrity.
I don't know if it's on any of the videos you've seen, but if your itinerary includes visiting one of the glaciers, pack a pair of those little stretchy gloves to keep your hands warm. On glacier day I also wear warm socks, and layer a turtleneck, a fleece top, and a raincoat with a hood.
Hard to take good pictures if you're shivering. Then they look like you experienced an earthquake with all the shaking.😂
Have a wonderful time - wish I was going, too!!

The 2best things I took on an Alaskan cruise was black, thick, soft, comfortable ski leggings ( not those plastic looking ones. You can’t see through them& & they’re warm. I took 2 pairs & wore them over & over.
The 2nd thing was 2 black, thin thermal shirts that keep you warm in very cold weather (not those waffle ones). I wear them under vests, sweaters, flannel shirts & sometimes I might start the day with only a T shirt over it with a jacket over that. At lunchtime when it warms up, you can remove the thermal shirt & jacket & put in your carry on bag. I use a lot of black to layer with, then use colors as my top layer. You’ll find out you’ll only wear 1/2 of what you pack & somethings you’ll wear over & over again.
You’re going to have a wonderful time!

@genitagray6126 I did bring a thin thermal top & pants (not waffle, either, but what we used for skiing) on my first two trips, but they were just too warm for me, so I didn't pack them on the next three Alaska trips.

This year I took the clothesline to my European cruise. It was fantastic! Between the pre and post-cruise hotels and the 9-day cruise, it was a 13 day trip, so we needed to optimize the outfits and wash some clothes to re-use them. It worked really well with the magnetic hooks and also with the stoppers after each clothespin that come with the line. These stoppers are adjustable and keep the clothes in place on the line avoiding them to get all together in the center. I would never leave this clothesline at home when cruising. We hung the clothes in the shower first, and when they were not dripping, we hung them on the line. It was perfect.

@dorothywillis1 - I think I used my first one back in the 1980's!Finally retired it a few years ago when my godchild bought us new monogrammed LLBean ones. Gave my old one to a friend because it was still was in good condition and she didn't have one.
I leave it packed and in my carry-on at all times. When we get back home from a trip I refill all the containers, put it back in my carry-on, then stow it all in the closet, all ready to go. Having it packed also ensures I don't forget anything, like toothpaste, a hairbrush, mini sewing kit, etc.
We're not in a normally tornado or hurricane prone area, but when we get an occasional warning I put a few outfits in my packing cubes and have my bag ready, just in case.
We had a tornado 13 years ago, with fatalities, and there were so many trees uprooted and lying across the roads I gave up trying to get home from work after 2 hours, turned around and went to my mom's. She's two sizes smaller, so I borrowed dad's tee shirt to sleep in, washed my dress, and re-wore it to work the next day. My home was okay, but others lost everything. We were blessed.

Another item we always bring is a 220v European adapter and/or charger so we can utilize both the 110v American receptacles as well as the European ones. Most all of our chargers and devices will accept 110-220v. Last, we alway bring a small digital thermometer to measure the cabin temperature. We don't want to rely on the wall thermostat.

The motion sensor light is something that we won't leave home without! We use it as a nightlight in the bathroom with the door slightly ajar. It works perfectly! Highly recommend! The 100 lb. hooks are a must have also! If you hang them from the ceiling they won't slide down the wall and work great! The clip magnets are also a must have also! It;s great to be able to have all your informational paper clipped to the wall so it's easy to find! Power cubes are great, although we use a USB multiple outlets are really the must have. Almost everything uses a USB like, cell phones, hearing aids, watches, fans and other products. Not to say that you won't need an extra plug so when you get a power cube just make sure that it doesn't have a power cord because they will take it from you and when they determine that it's not surge protected they will give it back later in the cruise. So if you're on a short cruise you might get it back and then again you might not get it back until the cruise is over. A stuffed travel pillow I just got and have to say I'm looking forward to using it to save suitcase weight! The portable fan is a must because sometimes the cabins get really hot and it's nice to help cool it down and sometimes it's nice to have it blow on you, again this is a USB rechargeable device. We have one for each of us and it's the one that you have pictured in the upper left corner. We did get the Ultimate Cruise Planner and it is worth having! You can use it really for all your travels and it's worth getting! Thank you for putting it together!

Not necessarily a new item, but 2 things I always bring: a mini first aid kit, and extra shoelaces. I have had the displeasure of a shoelace breaking during a vacation and fortunately had another pair of shoes, but if you only bring one pair or one is more suitable for walking, be sure to have that backup shoelace.

    • @SharonPerson-hm9ds
      @SharonPerson-hm9ds 2 месяца назад +2

@davidjames6879 - I never thought of extra shoelaces, but now that you mention it, I will. They take up no space and weigh almost nothing.
I bring a small first aid kit, too, but my daughter, a registered nurse, could probably do emergency surgery with what's in her kit. I'm kidding (kind of), but she is prepared for most minor medical issues.

Thanks for all the ideas. One thing to note is that in the Solo cabins on NCL, most of the walls were not metal; the one near the door was though, so good place to put excursion tix and the daily schedule (if you use a paper one). I use suction cup hooks in the shower - great for letting a shampoo bar dry!

I always pack a small cooler in my luggage to keep ice on my cabin. You can pack breakable things in the cooler. I also bring a plastic glass to hold makeup brushes, mascara, etc. in the bathroom. A blanket is nice to have when sitting on the couch watching tv or reading. I'm usually cold in my cabin. I pack a toiletry back with everything I might need but usually don't use, just in case. Have you seen the price of cold medicine or Pepto Bismol on the ship?

Those microfiber towels are very thin and not as absorbent as a regular towel. I bring 3 just for me when i go to the pool or the beach. Definitely one to lay on. The other trick ive been doing for decades is i bring a twin flat sheet to put directly on the sand and then my towel on it. Nowadays they have microfiber bed sheets that are less than half the weight of regular cotton sheets. I bought the majority of my microfibre beach towels from Costco. Then went on sale from $9.99 down to $6.00 when they first came out 5 years ago.

Great idea. My sisters passport was lost by TSA. Yes, TSA. It fell out of the container as they were pulling it away after my sister was getting her stuff out. We actually had to go to their supervisor and it took them 2 hours to "look" for it. I told the supervisor that she HAD TO HAVE HAD IT TO GET THIS FAR, and we were going on a cruise and she must have it. They finally actually looked for it and found it right away. We almost missed our flight, but now I make her give it to me as soon as she passes the first hurdle thru security. Lesson learned.

Also did this on my sub post but many airlines are now considering any travel pillow, stuffed or unstuffed with clothing to count as a personal item? Also some lines it’s up to the discretion of the individual at the gate. So you might check the airlines website and it says you can bring a pillow, but the person at the gate will notice. Just say that’s not a pillow you stuffed clothes in it so it’s a personal item. I’ve seen many people on RUclips that they’ve run into it and they’ve had to pass it to somebody else who did not have a personal item to bring on

However I am heartbroken as I have always had a custom door decoration or magnet with my hubby and I name each of our cruises but I'm reading the fine print for Norwegian Epic the very last prohibited item says no door decorations due to a fire hazard?
