This podcast isn’t paying Jakob his full dues. Without him, we wouldn’t have gotten the greatest 1500m of all time. We have him to thank for pushing the boundaries of this event (especially in championship races) and for making this event the best and most entertaining in the world. All thanks to Jakob.
Rewatch the first 2 mins, they ABSOLUTELY did. The reality is that Jacob didn't medal and there shouldn't be talk about him outside of going for it in the first 3 laps. Jacob glazers can't admit that he isn't as dominant as they think in the 1500m. Whightman beat him at worlds. Kerr beat him at worlds. Hocker/kerr/goose beat him at the Olympics. Stop trying to take this away from Hocker.
Nobody's talking about the fact that Cole ran 3:27.50'ish, WHILE BEING CUT OFF WITH 100M to go. He literally killed his speed for 2-3 seconds starting with around 100m to go. If that doesn't happen, he runs sub 3:27 clearly...
@@codycornell2212 Jakob didn't even know Cole was there. Cole should be buying Jakob some beers for giving him the clear path. I also think that Cole barely lost anytime having to back off for a stride before launching his kick. I put it on 2 tenths of a second difference (or less), if Cole was able to sneak by on the inside before the lane closed and reopened. Not sure where people get the idea that Cole lost more time.
@14:20 I agree with you. If Jakob didn't close the door on the inside forcing Hocker to "pump the brakes" I think you're looking at a *03:26**!* A sub 03:27 is realistic.
Yes what an amazing race! Jakob did what he needed to do and find no fault in his strategy. A great night for American distance running. Who would have predicted such a result but in a perverse way it makes good sense. Shed no tears for Jakob- he’ll be tough in the 5k!
Wow what a race, give credit to Jacob, without him this would not of been a fast race. Hocker is a stud, he was so overdue for a stunner..Yared coming back at Josh, and almost outlets Josh..My boy Hobbs ran a hell of a race, watch out for his 800..Hobbs is a stud..Jacob is a class act, now Josh needs to tone it down..The 1500 meter is now in its greatest history, so many great runners..Outstanding job for the Americans..
Jackob Made that race --broke the wind or was rabbit for 1475 meters .. Hocker you da MAN and Hobbs look out everyone will run FAST AF in next 4 years-well faster he already is FASTAF
@@thomasanderson9460 Thomas, yes Hobbs is the silent sleeper..This young stud is going to set the world on fire, he got the speed, and now getting the strength to sustain..Hobbs going to have a great 800 meters."
@@randytindol2172 Hobbs 1:43 at trails was a huge PR. For the past month, I have been telling people he will surprise people in the 1500. He also has looked very happy after every race. Glad the 800 has a day off. 1500 has to take a bit of zip out of the legs. One or two more years and Hobbs will be a household name.
Wow, unusually good discussion tonight. (Probably because the 1500 race was such incredible food for analysis. And it helped that the JoBros weren't sloshed tonight like they were last night.)
It's unfortunate that you guys completely ignored Hobbs, who was brilliant, to cap off a brilliant season. It's not *only* the guys on the podium who matter, and since he's the youngest of the stud Americans, it's a dumb oversight to completely overlook his accomplishment.
Wow! What an amazing race. Everyone knows that Cole has the best kick in the 1500. I thought that Ingebregtsen was not going to let him pass on the inside, but Cole was patient. Amazing!
Today's race just clarified just how great that Filbert Bayi solo run was where he beat the best in the world leading wire to wire and set a new world record. Extremely hard to do.
Just a point of awareness, guys... the irritation that runs between you is both visible and audible. Ego is the major cause of discontent in the Western world. This is not about you. What a fantastic 1500m, so many brilliant individual efforts. A great future ahead for middle distance enthusiasts.
Not even hating on Jakob… but I feel like he maybe should move up to the 10k and do the 5/10 instead of 15/5? I guess he did just run one of the top 5 quickest 1500’s ever so that might be too harsh, but I feel like 5/10 is the way to go in order to get double golds.
Jokap need it to watch hitcham in Athens. That was the way to win. Get out slow for 300m then increase the pace every 100m. It worked perfectly for hitcham. And they both have the same stride. No kick but fast stride.
R. Johnson hit it on the head at about 36.30. Sometimes, you just get beat. Ingebrigtsen didn't run a bad race, those other guys hit their peak at the perfect time and just took him down. If Ingebrigtsen runs 1 second slower in lap one, does he hang on? Maybe. Ingebrigtsen would have had no reason to believe that Nguse or Hocker were real threats. They raised their level up at the worst time for him and the best time for them. At that level, it's literally splitting hairs. When Kerr said that Ingebrigtsen's strategy was "bold", it's not unfair to "translate" that into saying that was Kerr's diplomatic way of saying it was stupid as fuck. Fair enough. Doesn't mean under a different roll of the dice, it wouldn't have paid off.
No way he wins, Hockers kick was unstoppable. Even at that pace he still has one, if its a second lower its that much better. Hocker might not even have to go on the inside if its a slower race.
Been saying for years Jacob needs to race diamonds league 800 meter races and improve his 400 meter time to get his leg turnover used to sprinting speed
"Outsmart," in Jakob's post is meant as a compliment, I think. You gotta give him some benefit of doubt with the second language, I think. It felt like he means he had to overthink (hence, "outsmart") his strategy and went out faster than he would have preferred and maybe he also realizes he was too concerned with Kerr. But, it is also true the margins were fine and he may have been beat at any pace today.
Just like the way Jakob outkicks most of the 5k guys, the 1500 guys are just faster, making it fast was a great move as the only way he could beat them was through endurance. A slow race, he still loses

so you're praising him for being a glorified rabbit? lol
The last two world finals were blazing fast and Jacob still got outkicked. It doesnt matter.
@@lavs8696 Yes. On the biggest stage, he had the balls to push a world record pace.

El G did have a kick and his running style was very smooth and elegant comparing him to robotic Jakob is outrageous

Outsmart is him saying he lost tactically. But he would have lost regardless how he ran, if he ran a slower race Hocker outkicks him even easier.
"What should Jakob do going forward?" A: focus on the 5000m
Although he finished fourth and was without a medal, everything revolves around Jakob. Credit to him for making middle distance running great again.
A rabbit cannot be worth one second per lap, or Ingebrigtsen would be capable 3:24.4 with wavelights and a rabbit. He has proven he is not.
Yared ran last 200 just as fast as Hocker.
Just like the way Jakob outkicks most of the 5k guys, the 1500 guys are just faster, making it fast was a great move as the only way he could beat them was through endurance. A slow race, he still loses
Exactly
He was the rabbit, the others only ran 3 seconds slower?
Do the foreign countries not teach runners to close off the inside?
Jakob cut off Cole on the inside but then Jakob drifted to the right to try to push Kerr out, opening up the inside again. Jakobs hands were too full
He was closing off Kerr on the outside. Getting Hocker to pump the brakes should have been enough.
Cole Hocker got blocked by Jacob the first time he tried to go by.
These guys are so angry. So very angry.
The two on the right almost always have an angry affect especially the middle guy appears perpetually pissed
Jakob fans comparing him to the legend El G need a reality check after this abysmal performance
