Sanda is a very good start for Judoka who wants to learn striking and stop depending too much on the gi. It's rules pushed your stand up grappling to the limit and forced you to set up your grappling with strikes instead of just barge into the clinch
sanda's striking is brutal ! no elbow in competition, otherwise all is allowed and they also have double/single legs takedown, even suplex ! i'm kinda surprise why sanda is not more popular than it is right now.
I practiced sanda for a while, one thing that is very interesting is that the curriculum of throws isnt fixed... If you want to do a throw that isnt taught in class but doesnt break any rules its completly allowed... Wich means people from other grappling sports sometimes come with their own techniques
Yes indeed, thats rooted in the fact that Sanda's background can have a wide array of styles, since these throws are rooted in various Shuaijiao styles, Tai Chi Chuan, Northern Long Fist, Tan Tui, etc... the more privately trained "military no rules" Sanda has all of the more "dirty, illegal" attacks from northern and southern Gongfu styles (eye jabbing, knee kicks, muscle/tendon Chin'Na locks, spiking the head on throws, etc).
Hi chadi. The equivalent of IJF for wushu-Sanda is IWUF - international wushu federation, they do have a set of rules. And there are many affiliated federations by country. They hold world championships and they had a demonstration tournament at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Another great video! I'd love to see Judo vs Shoot Boxing next! Shoot boxing is similar to Sanda in the fact that it's primarily a kickboxing art that allows throws but what really sets it apart is that they incorporates a ton of crazy standing and flying submissions.
I'm pretty sure the throwing techniques in Wushu Sanda come from another Chinese martial art called "Shuai Jiao" which Jiu-Jitsu throwing techniques (that would later be incorporated into Judo as well) reportedly took inspiration from.
I did a video on this a while back - I genuinely think Sanda has an interesting rule set which would be interesting to people from a variety of backgrounds. The only thing is the rounds are so short which I think limits it. Short rounds keep it exciting but longer rounds and perhaps a longer period allowed for grappling would definitely improve it in my opinion. Great video as ever Chadi
You are a very respectable, humble and very calm person, especially in the discussions and topics you raise, . You are a distinguished person and greater Thank you.
Judo is extremely specific in the naming of some throws, like ko-soto-gari/ko-soto-gake and ashi-guruma/o-guruma, but on the other hand morote-gari is any form of upper leg pick, single or double.
Thank you for bringing this ti public attention! I practise San shou aka Sandai. It draws on multiple martial arts of the orient & has incorporated Western Boxing: Mongolian Wrestling, Chinese Wrestling! Peace & Love!
The technique around 03:40 is done by using your shoulder as leverage: push with the shoulder; pull the leg, this is the most basic version, there are other version whereby you can dislocate knees, ankles, hips. Peace & Love!
Excellent video, as always. I just wanted to add one detail. The kick catch and trip at 6:45 is illegal in Muay Thai. It is a rule violation to hook your leg behind your opponents to throw in MT. Usually, a Muay Thai practitioner in this position would throw by reaping the opponents standing leg at the ankle with their instep from the outside while lifting the caught leg. This is a small detail, but I thought it might be helpful to clarify. Thank you again for all of the excellent content.
@@henrikg1388 As a judo national champ myself, that's what I been discussing with my kickboxing friend, his telling me that he has a good defence takedown against a judoka or wrestler, and am like u don't know what u are saying yet

amazing video and really well explained. if i am not mistaken at least Sanda/sanshou or a variation is taught to the peoples liberation police in China. you can recognized them by their digital camo uniforms and i remember seeing them in really busy steets like nanjing road in Shanghai or the Bund
Chadi, this being a Judo channel and all, it would be awesome to see if you can make a video showcasing the legendary Jesse Glover, as he was a powerful champion Judoka, and he was also the very first student of Bruce Lee. He was the man that introduced Judo to Bruce in 1959, long before Gene Lebell and Bruce ever met. Jesse went on to teach his own method rooted in his Judo experience and Bruce's Gongfu (Non Classical Gongfu), together with his good friend Ed Hart (pro boxer, bouncer, Bruce Lee student).
Thanks for the continuing education Enjoy u showing old judo and Jujitsu techniques This was interesting in that.it shows how grappling is universal thing Thumbs 👍 up
sanda is awesome, did both of arts they complement each other very well ! I think to a street situation or life or death situation they together is enough.
Chadi I highly enjoyed your khusti video pls pls do more!!!! It's fascinating especially the judo, jj, khusti, catch clash that happened hundred years ago!! Great Gama scared the Russians and Americans!!! Grappling rules!
Wussup Chadi, I’ve met the national head coach of San Da 散打 in China before. When there is no national or international comp he teaches at the Shanghai Sports College. He told me that most of the throws are actually only partly Shuai Jiao 摔跤。The other half comes from a variety of traditional Chinese martial arts. Like Kung Fu 😅 If these kids in China doesn’t make it, they become gangsters 😂😂😂

I agree, slight difference becomes a different technique, while techniques have many variations

Amazing video, Chadi. Reminds me of Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia since Ronda Rousey is a Judoka and Bethe Correia does Sanda.
Sanda or not. Don't clinch with a high level judoka. You will lose.

This looks like a great art to add for a judoka.
Definitely.
Started off with judo. When it was time to learn striking i chose sanda
Yep, it,s kind of art that will teach you how to use strikes for setting up a grappling technique, or how to counter kicks with throws, catches etc.
It's a good art
This or muaythai specially the gym that work a lot on the clinch, foot sweeps, throws etc..

yeah the base of sanda largely comes from shuaijiao and Northearn style wushu.
Im new in your channel, is there any video about Lei Tai kung fu? Great job with the content 👍🏻
You can tell the guys in the opening Sanda are Russians just by how they strike and kick.
I'm not familiar with it
at 6:51 you can see Muslim Salikhov. an amazing Russian champion. he defeated Gao Feng and won gold for Sanda.
Exiting to watch ! In many ways more spectator appeal than MMA
It is exciting
All for Military Sandai/San shou as it is a return to traditional ancient combat testing. @FightBible

What about sanda vs muyai thai wich is better
What is the name of background music?
