Brilliant video and walk thru on using Shadowdark tables to create an immersive gauntlet adventure with a strong time push element. Bonus points for using terrain. ;) Thanks for giving more exposure to all the value in the Shadowdark RPG core book.
Really liked the video! Recreating the danger and tension of something like the Moria escape sounds like a great time at the table, sort of deviating from the typical slow, cautious dungeon crawl
Yessssssss! Helps your players have some ownership over your campaign and it helps you as the GM get a moment to not need to “come up with it yourself” and enjoy the creation 😉
It would be interesting to see an updated ruin after the Orcs take over the ruin. Because, who knows, maybe the party returns and now there is even more treasure with even deadlier foes!
This, this is what I have been looking for. I want to see videos of how to use the random generators and tables in Shadowdark. More videos teaching me to use the random tables, please and thank you.
Fab vid, really liked the style and the presentation of a mini-adventuring site. Feels like a video version of a module. Be sweet to see more, for sure! My only thought is Room 10; what do you think about the lever being on the opposite wall to the door? It telegraphs the point of interest, and they likely have an idea given the previous levers (if encountered). It also explains a bit why the first person went in; they wanted to pull the lever, but the ooze got'em. Might lead to some smart moves by players, like climbing along the walls or some such. Reckon you'll be doing more like this?
Honestly that’s a great idea. I hadn’t thought of that lol. Easy fix though! And thanks for your kind words. I always enjoyed the “video module walkthrough” vids and there are very few with actual terrain lol. I might make more but these videos tend to not perform very well and are a TON of work. So maybe if enough people really like this one, I’ll do more 😉
@@HouseDM For sure an easy fix, and some might even keep it like that, a sort of 'fog of war'. Hope more people flock to ya channel, you got some high quality stuff. Loved the videos on alternative HP/AC you did a while back. Either way, time to start jumping between my 100 YT accounts to skew some metrics ;P
Room 3 has what used to be called "Challenges" in...4E I think. Critical Role/ Matt Mercer uses them from time to time and they are great. I hope this adventure is fun for you and your crew!
Hi. I have a house rule for effort in D&D. The "thing" has a DC and as much HP. The player rolls his check. For each point above the DC, decrease as much point from the "HP" pool of the"thing". Works to diable traps, decypher runes, move heavy stuff etc
Looks like a very fun gauntlet! You have some really cool terrain; did you purchase or craft it yourself? Specifically your rock piles, the room tiles and the awesome ladder leading upwards? If you bought them, would you mind linking to them? If you crafted them, do you have videos showing how to do so? Thank you for the info and the entertaining video.
Hey Alan! Thanks a ton! Most of what you see is crafted with EVA foam. The rock piles or “debris” in room 2 is made from scraps and one “rubble pile” from Mantic Terrain crate. There’s a link in the description. I basically took those small rubble piles and added more trash to make it bigger lol. As for the ladder, I made that in another video and same with my dungeon tiles. Those are on my channel page. Glad you like it and thanks for watching!
I was thinking of a similar line from the Jack Reacher's bar fight scene. It's not 15 against whatever the party is, it5 vs the party. Kill the Orcs and the warthog, and the goblins will run, they always run.
Great video House! My only nit is that classic dungeons always baffled me b/c they were rarely built with a purpose in mind, people don't build random holes in the ground with no discernible function, because it would be a waste of precious resources. My mind was always asking where is the bathroom, where is the water supply, where are the kitchen's and dining halsl, where are sleeping quarters, what is this room used for an armory, storage, meeting room, torture chamber? It just seemed liked lots of old school dungeons were like, yeah let's just put something weird here because this is a one-shot convention dungeon.
Haha totally! And I absolutely agree. This was just an overview but you could easily add in more features. Plus collapsed passageways could block off the privvy for example or the armory so all that’s left are the random areas and corridors that don’t always make sense. Got to love a good dining hall or library in these forgotten halls. I’ll add some more focus to the rooms in the next one, just for you 😉
ROOM 7: A dwarf shouldn't really count as a "small" creature. They're at least the weight of a human. If not heavier. I don't play 5e so I don't know what the rules are for size, but if a dwarf is considered "small" it's kind of dumb. Pretty sure Gimli weighs twice as much as Legolas for instance.
Ehh, I’d leave that up to GM interpretation. Not all Dwarves are heavy and not all elves are light as a feather in my eyes. This guideline was merely meant to serve as an easy way to handle it in terms of game mechanics
I made them! You can make them too for fairly cheap. A sheet of EVA foam, a sharp knife, and some paint. I made another video on how to make them. You could also use XPS foam which is much easier to cut and get finer detail. But you need to weigh them down or else they move if someone sneezes. I’ve found putting some screws in to work best 😉 Thank you!
Pretty sure it’s still the most popular one. New games coming out like Daggrford has 2d12 for mechanics(weird and awkward), Pathfinder wont get more players like D&D, and Baldurs Gate 3 is going to make some gamers want to try out…..that top role playing game. Familiarity wins every time.
Truth my friend. I think Daggerheart will be huge for the hobby and I got nothing against Baldurs Gate 3. In fact, I grew up on Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 💪🏼 Got me into the hobby lol.
@@HouseDM sorry I got the name wrong. d12 system just sounds forced and awkward so it should do better than the murder mystery game they put out, but I doubt it. Tal’Dorei will get more sales because…..WoTC is putting it out there! So I don’t feel they are genuinely are trying to break from D&D. Because at the end of the day, it works and works really well.
Unfortunately you cannot buy these as I made them myself. BUT! I do have a video where I show you how to make them. Look up my Indestructible Dungeon Tiles video. 💪🏼
This is a fantastic video, House! Seriously valuable walkthrough. Anyone who wants to make their own gauntlet should check this out. 🤘
Thanks Kelsey! 💪🏼🔥🍻
@TheArcaneLibrary Hey Kelsey, eagerly awaiting my physical copy of SD, 👍🙂
Agree with adorable Kelsey. Fantastic video. Hope you will be putting out more.

Exactly. That was such an exciting moment in Fellowship. Really wanted to capture that vibe 😉 Thank you!
01:17 I think it still is, unfortunately, but MAN did I enjoy the comment 🤣👍👏😁
Hehe yeah yeah, I know. But hey, this resurgence of excitement for alternatives is excellent for our hobby! 💪🏼
@@HouseDM 100% agree!
I love generation for tables and ideas. I like being as suprised as the players

Such a great video, bro! This kind of content really gets the wheels turning.
Ayyyye glad you think so! Thank you for watching it!

Hell yeah! I love a good "restocked/refortified" dungeon.
Nice, succinct, fun dungeon! Top production as well.
Thank you!! 🍻
This is super epic. Love the camera work, and the terrain, minis EVERYTHING.
Keep up the great content! 🎉 This is something I have been looking forward to as a new ShadowDark RPG DM

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoy this one too 💪🏼 Skal!

Love it! Gamifying these things makes it that much more fun 🍻
Level 0? Thats alot more scary than i originally took it for.
Oh yeah. If you run this at higher levels, it’ll be much easier, but that roper and bear will still do work and likely still kill someone 😅
Was not ready for that roper jump scare
Ropers are terrifying 💀
