@@carson8074 well if you want to learn face then ill recommend doing a simple person not very detailed at first to be able to naturally know how to draw it without it looking out of place then u can worry bout the details. I am. I loved drawing when I was a child, and my "teacher" was a very good tv artist named Jon Gnagy. I did all his shows with him when I was about ten years old, and I got pretty good for a kid. Then I got deeper into studies, and also music, and never did any more art. Now I am retired in my 70s and back to pick up where I left off. RUclips has incredible tutorial offerings, and I am having a great time. This guy with his tutorials is a real favorite, very clear demonstrations and comments.
tip that helps When your using a pencil, make sure to move your lines further apart away from eachother when its lights and the lines closer and darker when the shadows are dark.
I wanted to learn to draw for so long and never thought to look to RUclips until recently, which has been a massive help. I love the internet. Thanks for the great tutorials!
Well. Here is an easy way to draw a circle. The video's about drawing Earth. But just wait at the start to know how to make one. ruclips.net/video/N7xv-FJqrmE/видео.html
Total beginner and I am missing a lot of information here. Where exactly did you assume your light source to be? A mark on the paper would help to visualise that. How do you determine (construct) where the "core shadow", "midtone" and "hightlight" areas should be placed? Where does that "reflective hightlight"come from and would it still be there if the object was not placed on a white surface? If this is not targeted for beginners then never mind - otherwise it would be great if you could add that info.
Late reply but to help you out (if you still need help) finding and understanding the different tones of shadow is very tricky. To be able to understand and master it, you must draw from real life. Ik it can be very intimidating to draw from real life but its really the best route to become a decent artist. These kind of videos usually lack information and basic techniques, and for beginners its very easy to be demotivated because they don’t understand whats happening and end up memorizing things. for example the way he drew the cast shadow is very unclear but the good thing is, cast shadows are very easy to understand and can be learned pretty quickly. Sometimes understanding the simple physics and concepts on why and where shadows and values exist help you draw more accurately. And with drawing from life practice, you’ll be able to improve your visual library and eventually draw from imagination without being limited to one light source direction like this video showed I hope this helped, Good luck 😁

I so appreciate this video! I've been teaching art for 15 years. Every time I teach shading it's with these 5 forms. Watching your video is much better than students having to watch me try to quickly yet accurately do this!
The only problem with that is that the oils from your skin will leave marks that darken over time... like when you wipe your hands on a napkin after eating french fries. I would recommend using smudging tools such as tortillons.

That subtle stopping or starting spot is bugging me a little, on the rounded sphere and cylinder, where the mid tone shadow is fading into the highlight and it seems there's a spot I don't always get, where it should definitely change. Midtone to deep shadow is not the same problem somehow. 🤔 I do like how lightly tapping a pinch of the tacky eraser gum helps control all that.

would love to see these tutorials done with basic art materials (scholastic pencils and pens) because most beginners watching this don’t have the fancy stuff lol
Though you can absolutely do this with regular stuff. I followed along the video with printer paper and a pen stolen from ikea and it turned out basically the same as in the video
huh?? wanna slow down a bit and explain HOW you are doing the different shades?? pressure etc. slow down instead of .....'and now we JUST blah blah' that simple when you are an expert but those of us watching are not
About even pressure throughout, although in the spots like under the edge of the cube, a little heavier pressure. The more times you pass over an area with the pencil, the darker the spot will get.
You draw a thin shadow underneath the front of the cube (and also the pyramid). That indicates that the light source is slightly behind, meaning that the front face does NOT recieve any direct light and should have the same dark value at the left side of the cube. Agree?
I have a question for anyone who has practiced shading for a while: how long does it take to shade one basic form in A3 scale? For example a cube. Thank you so much

It's a shading techniques video, you shouldn't expect it to also teach about light
There is no accurate areas to be placed

If you don't want the shading to be so grainy-looking, try using your finger to blend out the graphite. It gives the shading a nice, soft look to it.
