@@michelleb6395 sorry Michelle, I’ve gotten so many comments lately, I missed this! My certificate did expire, so the site was down for 2 days, but it’s working again now. 😊
The worst part of procrastination is not that something remains undone, but that it is on your mind constantly until it is done. Best to do it asap and clear your mind of the negative things you tell yourself when it is not complete.
"...like calling to make a dentist appt or driving to the post office..." you are 100% right, sometimes things that take a few minutes are over whelming until they are done. Not sure why, just is. Thank you for validating this.
One thing that stops me is i fear something will go wrong and upset me, like going to DMV and they say i don't have the right forms and that completely upsets me. I like your timer. I broke my old one :(
No my friends this is what we call an Oprah aha moment done is better than perfect and I'll take it a step further any progress is actually success we're going for progress not perfection people God's not done with me praise the Lord here's all the stuff I should have been taught when I was younger but nope I have other skills
Thank you for being the most down to earth realistic woman I've come across on here. I hate watching women "clean" their perfect kitchens and picking up a few things and calling it cleaning a messy house and motivation. Your channel is REAL and you're so right about the longer you put off doing a chore the bigger it gets in our head. GUILTY!! I did it a hundred times. Just do it! 👍 I am subscribing to your great uplifiting channel today. Love from Montreal, Canada 💛
amen amen, did the 1st 2 things in the 1st 2 min, such a blessing this recommendation....., love that she's almost crying explaining this, the unclean anxiety is REAL, the garden, the ferment, the tinctures, the chickens, weedeating, the prettygrowingflowers wannabe...., it's all just too much want and vanity!!! God bless you all, love from BC, Canada
Finally a realistic woman and channel. So many pixi perfect women claiming they are cleaners when aren't and don't have any understanding of anxiety depression and real life. I battle daily
Are you able to respond and action if someone else asks you? I send texts or emails asking others to call me so that I can respond to them. This makes it more urgent so I do it.
Great video. We have a bare minimum when the day has been just too much. 1. Laundry (1 load), 2. Trash and 3. Dishes. If we can at least do that daily then the next day will at least be no more overwhelming than the previous one.
I’ve worked 2 jobs for 18 years. When I get home from the first job I make our bed, dishes in the dishwasher and take out the trash before I go to job number 2. Those seem vital to me
I am absolutely certain that God put your video in my feed! Been immobilized by bipolar depression for years, and the to do list just keeps growing. Overwhelm is a gross understatement. Have been working with my shrink on getting motivated to do something, anything. So funny that you mentioned making an appointment with the dentist - I finally called three days ago after putting it off for more than a year. Your advice is logical, succinct, and encouraging. Thanks! So glad I watched; have subscribed!
Hi Beverly. I never feel motivated until I literally force myself to do something .. THEN I start to feel motivated . It becomes catching . That good feeling after I do something motivates me to do something else.. maybe this will help
Bless you, Beverly. Bipolar disorder can be crippling, most especially the depression side of it. Remember a walk of 10,000 miles starts with the first step. Give yourself permission to take baby steps. If you can't clean the entire house in one day, then just do one room. If one room is too much just do the tidying in that room, or the floors, or the dusting. Small things that only take a few minutes, once done, give you a great sense of accomplishment. This will motivate you to do a bit more. Best wishes to you. I too know how debilitating depression can be.
My Mom always had her housework done every day. We didn't have a dishwasher, we were a family of 7 people. Home cooked meals 3 times a day, every day. She would be the first one to say that she didn't have time to think about it, she just knew it had to be done. Some how, with 5 children, she always found the time to sew clothes, teach Sunday school, throw birthday parties, gave us amazing holidays...the list goes on and on. I think home makers back then knew their job, and just did it. I follow the same, its my job, especially as a widowed Mom of 2. Thanks for sharing. 🥰💐🌷🌵🌱🌿🌞🍃🏜️💗🥰💐🌷🌵🌱🌿🌞🍃🏜️💗
I totally dread making appts.! It's so hard to get the right mindset, keep everyone quiet during the phone call, gather insurance Info, get out my planner...etc. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds this daunting!🙂
It took years to learn this, but a lived-in house is leagues more comfortable and welcoming that a perfectly kept house. Visitors are not fully comfortable in a perfect setting, they are more comfortable when things are not so perfect (which is different than disaster). Example: my sofa once was perfect - smoothed, arranged, plumped, oh so AD tasteful, but no one ever sat on it. Once I started to be less fussy, my visitors sat on the sofa and enjoyed the evening.
I’m sitting here stunned. This is the first video I’ve come across that just nailed it and I didn’t even know I was trying to hammer anything LOL. I’m so focused on my inner healing to be the healer I am here to be, or the entertainer/hostess since moving onto a boat (with NO dishwasher) and just getting through a 3 day Memorial Day weekend and coordinating a wedding. This stuff is supposed to be fun yet I’m depleted overwhelmed and mentally exhausted with a list of important things that I actually have to get done just sitting here. Like make my doctors appointment, call about unmailed prescriptions, fill out the form for my passport expiring in September, box up and mail mom’s packages. On top of juicing every morning, eating healthy choices working from home (Not always easy with hubby’s chocolate drawer and Carb cabinet) and forcing myself onto my stationary bike that is supposed to make my life easier and healthier but because its so LOUD and outside on the front of the boat, it feels like I’m screaming on the top of a mountain when I get on it. There are so many blessings in those statement and I feel so blessed but want to cry at the same time. Just to see you on point with how we are overwhelmed, how to adjust it AND you have six kids - my LORD Bless you beautiful lady! Am I doing this to myself? How do I slow it down? I’m really struggling right now with a few remaining subconscious emotions that debilitate and stop me building my business and staying focus on THAT healing that absolutely needs to be done is exhausting in itself. I don’t even have any children and it feel embarrassing I can’t get it together just taking care of myself. I have so much to give and I am here to serve with my gifts, I - we as women just have to get out of our own way. Honestly the quicker I can lock in and clear this specific subconscious block of “Messing it up”’ or “Not getting it right” “Doing it wrong” it would stop the overwhelming cycle. Well It’s 8 am and I’m going to see how much of it I can get done as I work today. Just seeing you share this cycle that seems to be “normal” LOL has me shaking my head and laughing. I was looking for Borax videos since I just bathed in it last night and your video popped up next! Thank you for being here and being so authentic. We need more of this!
Thank you … currently watching this at 4:15 am. Sleepless bc I am overwhelmed about where to get started reclaiming my home after a year of depression. 😢These tips are 💯 spot on! Everything you spoke on was speaking to directly to my soul. Anyone else reading this I pray you find a place to start & reclaim your home too. … I have also had nearly a week off yet here I am with 2 days left & almost nothing accomplished.
Starting can be the most difficult part - sometimes it's easiest to just start with one thing right in front of you, even if that's throwing something obvious in the trash. Then it's a start and you can give yourself a high five! ❤️
I see myself in this. Especially with the pandemic I have really become overwhelmed. Thank you so much for these insights. Just knowing that I am not the only one this happens to goes a long way to easing the negative self talk.
Of all the de-cluttering videos and gurus, you do it best for me. You really got me there as if you know me personally, with the points you raised and your solutions provided.wow! Thank you so much!
As the list grows longer my dread and fear increase exponentially until I am frozen with inaction. Thanks I needed this today. I have found that as my living space decreases the clutter and feeling of messiness has increased. You really have to declutter when you live in a tiny space.
I thought I was the only one who had to work myself up to go and post a parcel, or who has anxiety over making a phone call. I'm just coming out of anxiety and depression after being in lockdown since December and suddenly everything is open again and there are people everywhere. I have decided to get rid of STUFF and get my house looking a certain way. White walls, black and wood furniture with silver accessories. Having a clear plan of what I'm aiming for is so much easier. Thank you for your video
I like to fold my laundry while I watch RUclips. I was done folding before your video even ended and it was only 7 minutes long! It’s my most hated task, no idea why, so this helps me enjoy it a bit more and also always makes me realise how little time it takes. I hardly have to talk myself into it anymore
I always dreaded piles of laundry to fold. My husband always felt like he did his share to wash and dry and pile it up for me to fold and put away. But, I didn’t like dealing with wrinkly items. In 2013 - I created a new process. I fold clothes straight from the dryer. And put it all away. It usually takes about 10 minutes each load. If necessary I can rewarm or freshen the load for a few minutes to reduce wrinkles before folding. I do a load a day as needed. Sometimes none and sometimes more - depending on the day and my plans. I’m not opposed to hanging laundry to dry and I do that for small loads. 🔲 Laundry this week 1. Bed Linens 2. Towels & Bath Rugs 3. Darks 4. Lights 5. Extra item: Kitchen rugs
You can always do a partial declutter of an area and "bookmark" your place. It's most important to be kind to yourself and others, no matter what happens. Compassion is key💙🌞💙
LOVE this. You struck on something that sticks me up a lot. I'm a nurse, and used to "pristine", but I'm older now, and I can't do things the way I once did. So my clutter was starting to get ahead of me when the hubs got sick. I hired a housekeeper t help every 2 wks, but it's not "perfect".....and I have to understand I can do a little at a time all the time, OR I can continue to be bitchy and unhappy because it's not this massive perfection.
This is so true! I used to try to be perfect and then my health hit the floor. We are Not perfect so we have to stop trying to pretend. No one is. It’s just not worth it. Make a list of what you needs to be done other than a load of dishes or a load of laundry. Pick one thing that’s most pressing and work on that until you finish it. Then pick a new one. Orrrr work on it for 30 minutes a day. Whatever works!!!
Yes! Dishes are always the first thing I do when my house is a mess! So proud of myself! I took the day off work today, and I did some tidying, sorted through two drawers, changed out some decorations, finished a little craft project, and still got to relax and sit outside.
Great tips! I'm 72 and have a mild form of MS but was told by an occupational therapist that I need to do everything like housework and cleaning in increments so we have to go by the same principles as you do! When the summer heat/humidity gets bad, our energy depletes quickly! So we have to do anything we can to conserve energy since it's an energy depleting auto-immune disease! If you want to know how it feels when it's hot/humid, it's like walking around with your feet encased in cinder blocks and dragging one's feet and walking in those humongous super-sized super markets is like climbing Mt. Everest! I call it the slow motion disease! So keeping everything simple and easy is paramount same with comfort! Thanks and blessed be~
Thank you for putting out this video. I am an older lady who has raised her children, been married to a good man for thirty years. I have had demanding careers with keeping my house in order for my whole adult life. Then I got sick this past year. I lost my job, due to my missing five days in six months. I had gotten asthma from covid-19 and was having difficulties getting flare ups under control. I have been out of the work force for three months. My ambition is returning, but it's not near where it used to be. I was feeling guilty and embarrassed for feeling depression. Your perspective was very helpful for me.
This might help you my daughter and I felt like we were hoarders too so we decided to take one box every week to Goodwill or Salvation Army and bless them. I have boxed up stuff and two or three weeks later I cannot tell you what’s in the box so that’s the way to do it give it away
Love - clear a counter. I've been working on my house - it's a slow go. I have chronic fatigue. Once I get everything down to minimalistic - I am NEVER going back. Not having clutter is a real feeling of freedom to me.
I just found your channel and have been binge-watching all your videos. You are so relatable to me; everything you say about yourself I'm like "Yep, me too!" and your information and tips are so helpful. Thank you. ❤
"There's "stuff" on every surface"....this is EXACTLY! how I feel:-/ I literally spend HOURS each day just "shuffling and organizing" household items from one location in the house to another. It has to stop:-/
Really enjoyed your delivery- not loud in your face trying to be a celeb style but - genuine and sincere! I feel encouraged and inspired to tackle my mess! Thank you.
Good tips. It drives me crazy to have something on every surface, but somehow bare surfaces exert a gravitational pull on surrounding objects and before you know it, there's stuff all over them again. I've been fighting this battle for 30 years. I have a motto that comes in handy when I"m procrastinating. I tell myself, "Energy begets energy." In other words, once I actually _start_ moving, I get the motivation to _keep_ moving. If only I didn't wait so long to actually start moving. 😄
i heard it's the start-up energy that is most repulsive, once we overcome the initial inertia tasks get done. Example was a fellow who wanted to learn guitar. Guitar sat in it's case, guy was overwhelmed w mental step of taking instrument out to pluck tho that step took 10 sec, once he realized this he simply left guitar propped up beside his chair, taught himself to play. God bless. Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
I just came back to this video, as it was suggested and I need it again! I am here to report that I actually paused the video and made THREE dentist/referral/annual appointment calls that I've been avoiding making for weeks! I feel better already. I'll move on to the dishes next. I consider myself a minimalist-on-hiatus due to moving last year and a massive renovation that has us all living in 1/4 of our house right now. It gets overwhelming quickly!
Procrastinated over 4 days to tackle the dishes among all other areas of my home. 😒 Didn’t know where to start. Then i said I may not cook every day but I use my kitchen at least 3 times a day. Morning for coffee, evening after work to put away leftovers from work and go back for water and a snack. I haven’t put away the dishes as they’re drying but the sink is shining!!! On to tackle the rest of the house. Thank you.
We just moved from an RV (living in it for almost three years, all possessions in storage) to a 2200' log cabin, moved all our stuff in this Feb. I SO needed this, thank you! We had downsized quite a bit before storing everything, but there's still a lot as we've raised seven kids (most are adults). Still so overwhelming since I'm having trouble adjusting to the new lifestyle and chores. We have 2.5 acres my husband is learning to take care of too... Yikes
Wow. I happened upon this video and you addressed almost ALL my can't-keep-up-what's-wrong-with-me feelings about trying to stay on top of everything! The result? Step back and make peace with your expectations. Life's too short to wallow in anxiety. Thank you!!
Rachel, so nice to hear somebody else telling how challenging making a dentist appointment can be!!!! It makes me feel more normal. I've been searching for videos like this one for very long: where the difficulties behind the scenes are adressed. Because often times it's not so much about not knowing how to do it, but more about what blocks us from doing it. Looking forward to more videos on dealing with those sneaky toxic patterns.
I always enjoy your videos. Even when I feel like doing nothing, you remind me that just a few minutes of doing something can change the rest of the day.
Letting go of perfection was key for me. I had an idea of a proper cleaning process. If I didn’t have time to do it... I didn’t do anything. Now, I’m okay with occasionally mopping a bathroom without sweeping or vacuuming it first. 😱. And, I’ll vacuum without first dusting the furniture. 😱 I do a daily reset routine in the morning. Beds, dishes, bathrooms, laundry. In the evening - I do a quick walk-thru to set things right. I reset the house in the evenings to prep for tomorrow.
Such a great reminder, Rachel! I was reminded to do the dishes, to do the laundry, clear the dining table, and call the dentist! I liked seeing that dusting mitt you were using!! Wow! Got me going out of a bit of a funk!! Thanks!
Enjoyed this "well grounded" and realistic video. A few years ago I figured out that I procrastinate on a lot of little tasks that take less than a minute. For example,: putting a book back on a shelf, putting dirty clothes in a hamper instead of tossing them on a chair, throwing out the junk mail as soon as it is collected from the mail box instead of setting it on a pile on a counter, putting my shoes on a shoe rack instead of kicking them off in the middle of the floor. If I make myself do the little 30 second tasks consistently I don't get overwhelmed and fed up with eventual hours of house work.
I don't have kids, I don't have half the challenges of a big home. But that hit home, do it , get up do a bit at a time. And wow it works. Is off your mind. And be happy with it. Totally on mark , thank you.
So needed to hear this! I feel overwhelmed at times! You literally speak how I feel! I have struggled immensely trying to motivate myself. The more i leave it the more it feels huge in my head!
I’ve looked after a family of 4 for over 40 years, I’m on my own now and I just don’t want to do housework any more. I can’t motivate myself and the house is dusty and I feel like I don’t care, what can I do? The lady next door said when you’ve done housework for 40 years you just don’t want to do it any more, so I’m glad it’s not just me that feels this way.
I don't blame you! It comes down to if you have preferences on how it looks. If you like it to look a certain way, then do it as self-care for yourself. If you honestly don't care if there is dust, as in, it doesn't annoy you in anyway, then don't stress it. And if it does annoy you, then either work little tasks into your daily life so they don't seem so time-consuming, or hire someone. ❤️
@@Nourishingminimalism Good advice thank you. I must admit I have been house proud in the past. A friend of mine told me once that I did too much housework. I was at her house once having coffee and her mother was coming in the afternoon and she got a tissue and just dusted the sideboard with it! I thought that was dreadful! I don’t like to see dust, but at the same time I don’t seem to care about it any more!
@@gailcrowe727 Your friend is my kind of gal! LOL An older mom was telling a similar story once about a baby wipe cleaning the toilet and how horrified she was, and I got so excited - I could use a baby wipe and throw it away!! Housework is something I've had to learn to do and doing those things partially meant they actually got done. It was the "waiting to do it perfectly" that prevented me from ever doing anything. ❤️
My daughter used to work full time and I used to go and do some housework for her. There used to be dust on the top of the door frames and pelmets and everywhere you couldn’t see. On the places you could see she used spray polish and just rubbed it over with a duster, even the TV screen! I had to clean it all off with sqeezy and warm water. She said what’s the point of wasting time and energy on what you can’t see? So all my diligent work when she was growing up didn’t rub off on her did it?😅
You are an answer to prayer. This morning I had just had it, too much to do and not enough time to do it. I just decided to give up but my anxiety is worsened by clutter. I prayed for the Lord to help me figure it out and BAM there was your video to help. Thanks so much. I have hope now. God bless you!
I have no idea why your video ended up in my RUclips suggestions, but thank you. I have been overwhelmed since my husband passed unexpectedly four years ago. I have a big rambling house, land, horses, dogs, chickens. I look after the animals, their areas are spotless, but I put off doing anything about my house and garden, and the more I put it off, the more it seems a problem to do the simplest thing like clean dead flies off the windowsill. I have compressed my life into living in the kitchen/dining room, which is large, but I seem to ignore the rest of the house. Until my husband went on that next journey, I was always, lively, sparkly, energetic, now I feel like zombie woman from outer space. I seem to have channelled Scarlett O'Hara (I'll think about it tomorrow, after all, tomorrow is another day!) I want Scarlett to go and would like to channel Doris Day in one of her 1950's efficient, housewife, movie personas. I am going to try your 54321, right now, not tomorrow to cook something for dinner and do the dishes. I look forward to more inspiration from you and thank you for creating your channel, while dinner is cooking I will check out the Clutter-Free Army.
I clean the kitchen, the bathroom and wash laundry regularly and thoroughly. The rest is pretty much a " luck and a promise" when I get "around tuit"! And "round tuits" are hard to go find! 😁🤗😘
I have struggled the last 16 months to keep my home clean & organized. Thank you for your video that popped up when I wasn't even looking for encouragement. I got my dishes done & started laundry. I am taking all your advice & tips. Can't thank you enough. New sub!!
When u go upstairs take something that belongs upstairs and then when you come downstairs then take something with you that belongs down there. We had a wardrobe we didn't open for 2 years n the bedroom in which this wardrobe was in was filled with things in boxes n bags within bags so I gave myself a target to sort out 1/2 bag each day- gave me confidense and I began to feel much better n the room looked better each day so I started to do 3 bags then 6. Everything became easier, started hoovering spiders webs cleaning windows then draws 1 at a time. had the whole room redone from floor to ceiling n these days we have filled 3 bags of clothes shoes n books to give away because clearing the home = clearing the mind
New subscriber! You are SPOT ON with these suggestions!!!!!! Procrastination/avoidance doesn’t make that task go away. It actually increases the stress and anxiety even more. I look forward to going through your other videos!
Thank you so much for this, like many on here I have depression and anxiety. When I try to do everything perfectly I literally feel like my cleaning feels like a war...I love the way you explain things calmly, already feeling more optimistic ❤❤
Oh my goodness! BLESS YOU!!! Thank you for your video & thank you to the commenters! I, truly, thought I was the only one struggling inside my house for almost a year! All these “worries” & “overwhelm” take a toll on mental health, especially, as we age. You helped me to shift my paradigm & view on completing my housekeeping task! Looking forward to to “freeing” my mind of the “housekeeping worry”!
Your Speaking Was So Inspiring ! Thank you So Much ! After having to take early medical disability retirement from as an employee of 17yrs for a Co.with Wonderful benefits, I slipped into the next 3 yrs battling depression & anxiety, along with chronic pain and new diagnosis. Always feeling overwhelmed , and never knowing, or being able to make plans , or commitment and always ashamed for people stopping by, or having a get- together with family. I understood the process of how BADLY I NEEDED to eliminate, and started the process by hiring neighbor to help with cleaning out She'Shed, it was a start & 2 dump loads , and some donations. Your Video reminds me I've been stuck once again 🙃. I look forward to future videos & your words of Encouragement, God bless 🙏, Penney C. ( Sorry To Have Taken Up So Much Spilling my life stopping)....You'll have to bill me , lol.....
Yes! There are evn 5-10 min exercise videos. Sometimes, I start with one of those. I usually get energized enough to do one or two more. it's starting that's hard.
This is exactly my thoughts and issues all the way to putting off making a simple phone call. I don't let anyone help me because I want it done a certain way then I get overwhelmed by everything and nothing gets done. Everything seems to be just as important so I start in several things but nothing ever really gets finished. I'm too hard on myself for not being up to par for my family....I'm glad I found this, thank you.
When my Mom passed away, I had her stuff on top of going through a divorce and being evicted, on top of taking custody of my granddaughter. Parts of my home is piled up. To get rid of stuff in my area is expensive let alone working two low paying jobs to support my granddaughter. Life sucks but at least I’m rid of an abusive control freak husband.
Finally....FINALLY! my family puts their dishes in the dishwasher. How did it finally happen? I took my family into the kitchen and said..."no one needs my permission to put things into the dishwasher, just do it"!
Just found your channel. From feeling like I need to take a week off work to do simple tasks, to the husband and the yard, this is literally my life. The clutter and tasks in my house are just filling up my brain and I feel like I can never catch a break. This video makes me feel like it’s not as big of a mountain to climb that I’m making it out to be. Thank you for your practical, relatable advice 😊
Wow! This video spoke to me. I get overwhelmed by my cluttered house all the time and think ugh I need like 5 days off to get it clean and organized. I also put off small tasks and then stress over them. All your advice makes so much since. Thank you.
Thank you I'm feeling really overwhelmed right now. I'm a hoarder who's totally given up. I live alone and can't find motivation. I have depression and anxiety. I will try this tomorrow..bless you
THANK YOU!!! I SO relate to this. I also have the same 'lawn care' deal with my husband, who doesn't care about it....And I have more than enough to do, so there is no sense in fighting, fussing or fuming. I'm so glad you said it though. Everyone around me manicures their front yard, and probably wishes we'd move!
@@Nourishingminimalism thank you, I ve been working on pulling myself out if this space and your viedo has inspired me to get moving in the right direction today❤
I just found your video. 😍 I feel so relieved to know I’m not alone in feeling overwhelmed and like a deer in headlights! I know it is a very common feeling, but I still feel that “it is just me..I’m the failure”. Not rational, but it is MY feeling non the less. Thank you, this has calmed me down.😓
I finally got some paperwork in the mail yesterday..I ALSO don't know why some stupid thing seems like a mountain... I REALLY felt such relief all night... I realized I COULD have done it a week ago but this thime I did not beat myself up..I ENJOYED FEELING that relief..and this morning decided to start doing that everyday for 6 weeks...and enjoy each days accomplishments...and before summer is over I think I will work out the problem..( which I know comes from severe child abuse where at 14 I had to do everything to hold the house together) Thank you...you came along at the perfect time for my new life❤️
One thing that has really helped me is ‘touch everything once’. If you pick something up then deal with it. eg laundry, I now never put it on the bed, I put it all away straight away. Same with the mail, read it, deal with it, it’s done
I have panic attacks and anxiety thinking of calling up people for appointments and enquiry. When I heard you say that it looks llike a huge task, I was relieved, it felt like I am not alone. I thought I was going nuts
I read somewhere online (sorry I don't recall to give proper credit) that doing that thing you don't want to do is a gift to your future self, which made so much sense and really motivates me!!! ...sometimes : /
It makes me feel so much better if I do dishes at night, I wake up in the morning with a clean kitchen. I tried decluttering and selling the stuff on ebay a couple of years ago. Now, I'm a full time ebayer and the house is full of boxes and clutter. I am at the point where I'm just trying to ebay out of my front room. It's every where through out the house except the kitchen and the bathroom it's overwhelming and forget vacuuming you can't get a vacuum past the boxes. The front porch looks like all I need is a broken down fridge on it and I'd fit in with the hicks. I made my house worse not better. Being trapped in this place during lockdown was extremely stressful. It has made me angry and grouchy, I don't even like myself right now. My safe harbor has turned into my prison. Things are starting to get better I have cleaned out 1/4 area of the front room, you can now see the t.v. in the corner. Every week I'm going to do another 1/4 of an area. There is light at the end of the tunnel that I have dug for myself. Thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing Cathy. That's so wonderful that you were able to clear out a 1/4 of the front room, and have a plan for each week. You can make your home a safe harbor again. ❤️
Wow.. this reply has made me feel good about not ebaying in order to get rid of clutter! I need the money, but I need to get rid of stuff more! I have piles if stuff to sell, don't, fix, etc but have to depend on others to drive me to post office, etc.
@@GlobalRumblings Going to the post office is a problem for me to. The post man is supposed to be able to pick your mail up from your house, however, if they don't track it when they pick it up you get marks against your account. I should of stopped selling before it got out of hand. You could just sell jewelry or smaller items. I went over board, it didn't help that I lost my job in the middle of all this.
I know all that you say is true ! I have told myself this for months ! Another side of me says I don’t care yet I do care ! I am ashamed my house has gotten in the mess it is I don’t have children my daughter is 65 and doses all the out side work ! I am 84 and tell myself it’s because I am old and lazy ! But I am going to do as you suggest and I know it works because that’s what did when I younger ! So this isn’t getting things done ,thanks for sharing your ideas !👍❤️😇👵🏻🙋♀️🐶😺
I'm triggerred. "Done is better than perfect". So true. Overwhelm. I'm starting in the morning. Lowering my standards. A littke each day. Except for the daily vaccuum. Pets.
@@Nourishingminimalism Very true. I sorted one basket of craft stuff. 4 boxes of books to go to the charity shop. Started sorting in my linen cupboard. Next is the wardrobe. One small pile at a time. Really trying to let overwhelm and perfection go.
@@k.Newbbie It's taken 9 years after a big house move from which I still have unsorted boxes! Some of it valuable. Some I couldn't care less. Health issues, life circumstances and back surgery all sank me into a depressive state. I had no option but to sit and watch piles grow, plus the overwhelm worsen. Everything is clean. That, I will grant myself. I also like 'stuff' and I sew and craft and read. To make atters worse, my husband is just as bad with things. Biggest difference is that I know where everything is and it is organised chaos for sure. He can never find his things, so he has a dozen sets of spanners, and multiple tools, sunglasses, and other things. I refuse to accept we are hopeless lost causes never to get organised in this life. Time, effort and the right head switch was needed. Ironically, we have visitors who love to come to stay. They all say how interesting our house is and how it feels like a home te never like to leave. Tey all say it has great energy. Creative "Ecclectica" is what I call the style. My mother calls it old junk! Ah well. Rome wasn't built in a day!
If there was one thing I would love it’s a dishwasher. 3 times a day doing dishes by hand is so time consuming and frankly boring. If I leave it for one whole day the pile is enormous. Unfortunately in our tiny rental there is no space for a dishwasher. Once I’ve dealt with that I don’t have any desire to do anything else. Maybe one load of laundry and then hanging it out to dry (tumble dryers are omnipresent in the US it seems, but not so in Europe where electricity is heinously expensive and tumble dryers would be discouraged as a waste of energy resources - you guys have all this to come!!). It’s an endless cycle of tedium.
I've only had a dishwasher for the last 7 years. I get it! It helped to listen to podcasts or an audio book during that time. Playing youtube videos can help too. And I definitely don't look forward to hanging clothes to dry... 🤦♀️
I don't have a dish washer either. Having only 1 plate and 1 bowl and 2 cups per person has made a HUGE difference. It forces me to immediately wash the dish or there won't be where to eat. I put the rest of the dishes in a box in a separate room. In the rare time that a dish breaks I replace it with one from the box. Even if we get ALL our dishes dirty it's just a few. We're a family of 5. Give it a try, if it doesn't work you can always get all your dishes out of the box.
I live in Arizona, USA. It's soooo hot here that the clothes dry faster outside instead of the dryer. I use that time to relax and listen to the sounds of nature while hanging clothes as quickly as I comfortably can so I can get out of the heat. It helps to try and think of it as home making instead of a chore.
Perfection and completely done are overrated in housekeeping. No sooner do you finish laundry than someone takes off some dirty socks. Dust begins to accumulate the moment you turn your back. The grass just keeps growing. I agree with you that doing something imperfectly is fine. Better is better than nothing. I’ve been doing the countdown from 5 in the shower - I find it hard to stop overthinking and get out, so now I count down from 5 and often turn the water off as soon as I start counting. I guess it’s all about managing your inner toddler!
So funny! Haven't watched your channel before, but turned it on just to see. I watched about 5 minutes and got up to start my load of dishes in the dish washer. There! Done! Now back to watch the rest of your video
Thank you so much for this video & tips, they have helped me so much. I’m single & live alone, so I’m responsible for everything in my house, especially the mess.😀 I’m definitely not into cooking from scratch - there’s nothing wrong with fish fingers, beans & chips etc.
Thank you for reminding me that perfection is a process and not the result... smell the flowers along the way. Bright Blessing, (thinking positive energy ), for you and your family.
Thank you. I am a single 43 y.o. and cant keep up w/ 2 furbabies plus my commute. No excuses! You have 6 kids!🤯🥳👏Thank you for this, so helpful. I too dread mundane tasks to the point of immobility which is irrational. I tell myself the agony of fretting has wasted waaaaaaay more energy than just addressing the task right there. And that also helps me, the instant I see a task to complete I DO IT right now. Thats my goal anyway. Thank you, I am so glad to know I am not alone debilitated by perfectionist pressure. I have to respect my energy/boundaries = self compassion. I am typing and listening everything you say for me is YES YES YES! Have a blessed day. Stay safe.
You nailed it fir me w/ all the pressure we put on ourselves.....home made from scratch, garden to rival the queen, sewing our own clothes, on and on and on......too much self imposed pressure. Thank you again, so glad your channel appears but creepy how much youtube "knows" lol
When I was young I never stopped cleaning had kids same thing now their grown I dont really care my health is my wealth I dont care if things are out of place until I'm in a happy mood i do dishes in the sink never had a dish washer and wash clothes and dry them in the clothes horse i have tried but i get run down at 57 now have to eat so all that young full of energy is gone now,i watch videos to forget putting pressure on myself and see how the other half live, stress must be so bad in those show homes a house is a home it wont ever be done
As I have gotten older I tend to say , “ that’s good enough “ . I do just a little at a time , most important stuff first . I don’t really care of everything is done or perfect anymore . It’s good enough
I can really relate to what you had to say about having things to do like make appt's or those types of things - I also put those off and it's such a weight on me until it gets done

The worst part of procrastination is not that something remains undone, but that it is on your mind constantly until it is done. Best to do it asap and clear your mind of the negative things you tell yourself when it is not complete.
That's so true Shirley. ❤️
that philosophy is stated in the road less traveled, excellent book, do the worst thing first, give a break to yourself,
"...like calling to make a dentist appt or driving to the post office..." you are 100% right, sometimes things that take a few minutes are over whelming until they are done. Not sure why, just is. Thank you for validating this.
Yup, me too!
One thing that stops me is i fear something will go wrong and upset me, like going to DMV and they say i don't have the right forms and that completely upsets me. I like your timer. I broke my old one :(
Even mentioning an appointment gets me crazy
These are all symptoms of having ADHD. What you are saying resonates so much and I have ADHD.

Thank you! This synopsis is motivation to watch, I'm busy now, but I saved it for later. I'm new to this channel, it was in my recommended.
I like your phrase "Done is better than perfect". G Ire
Yes, helped me tremendously! 🧡

Just do it! 👍
I am subscribing to your great uplifiting channel today. Love from Montreal, Canada 💛
That means so much to me! Thank you ❤️
amen amen, did the 1st 2 things in the 1st 2 min, such a blessing this recommendation....., love that she's almost crying explaining this, the unclean anxiety is REAL, the garden, the ferment, the tinctures, the chickens, weedeating, the prettygrowingflowers wannabe...., it's all just too much want and vanity!!! I send texts or emails asking others to call me so that I can respond to them. This makes it more urgent so I do it.
You have THE POWER to achieve anything
Christina. I havent heard frozen by my depression but that is me. My major symptom is exhaustion. I also isolate. I too will try counting. 🍀🍀
Great video. We have a bare minimum when the day has been just too much. 1. Laundry (1 load), 2. Trash and 3. Dishes. If we can at least do that daily then the next day will at least be no more overwhelming than the previous one.
This is exactly what I was needing to read. To set up my bare minimum and by doing so creating conditions for less overwhelm! Thanks for your comment.
I’ve worked 2 jobs for 18 years. When I get home from the first job I make our bed, dishes in the dishwasher and take out the trash before I go to job number 2. Those seem vital to me
Wow super woman 💪🏻 I admire that!
Thank you Beverly! That's so great that you called and made an appointment! One step at a time. ❤️
Yep another thing I must do dentist appointment!!!
@@smitheric6038 hey... are you the guy that works on oil rigs?
“Lower your standards” resonates with me. Sometimes you have to do that in order to accept help
I totally dread making appts.! It's so hard to get the right mindset, keep everyone quiet during the phone call, gather insurance Info, get out my planner...etc. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds this daunting!🙂
Definitely a depression-inducing task along with paying bills over the phone.
Im the same way, and I really don't know why the 3 minute phone call freaks me out so much. I know how to do it, but I just put it off, so much.
Make appointments in your car
Oh I hate doing stuff like that.
I always wait until everyone is in bed to pay bills on the phone, I think better late of a night.
Good to know. I avoid visitors :) especially recently.
We do get in our own way! ❤️ One step at a time Wendy, we'll make it through. 😊
I learned this and taught my kids, if it is something you don't want to do, do it first then the rest of the day goes a lot smoother.
Having a plan and vision for the end goal, is super helpful! ❤️
Wow. You spoke every single one of my truths
I like to fold my laundry while I watch RUclips. I was done folding before your video even ended and it was only 7 minutes long! It’s my most hated task, no idea why, so this helps me enjoy it a bit more and also always makes me realise how little time it takes. I hardly have to talk myself into it anymore
I love that Sharon!
🔲 Laundry this week
1. Bed Linens
2. Towels & Bath Rugs
3. Darks
4. Lights
5. Extra item: Kitchen rugs
@@grogers511 I also like to put all my washing/laundry away as soon as the tumble dryer has finished. I hang all my jumpers etc straight away.
I don't fold anything. Everything gets a hanger slipped on it and hung up.
@@wildflowerwind6941 That is as simple as it is wise.
Thanks and blessed be~
This popped into my recommendations.
Dear GOD, I needed this. I really really REEAAAALLLLYYY needed to hear this.
😖😕😬
Thank you for putting out this video. I am an older lady who has raised her children, been married to a good man for thirty years. I have had demanding careers with keeping my house in order for my whole adult life. Then I got sick this past year. I lost my job, due to my missing five days in six months. I had gotten asthma from covid-19 and was having difficulties getting flare ups under control. I have been out of the work force for three months. My ambition is returning, but it's not near where it used to be. I was feeling guilty and embarrassed for feeling depression. Your perspective was very helpful for me.
Wow! This really helped me! I don’t even have kids but I feel like a hoarder and I am a procrastinator. Thanks you for this!
This might help you my daughter and I felt like we were hoarders too so we decided to take one box every week to Goodwill or Salvation Army and bless them. I have boxed up stuff and two or three weeks later I cannot tell you what’s in the box so that’s the way to do it give it away
"Things are better done imperfect, then not at all" thank you for that, I needed to hear that.
Your reminder to embrace imperfection and lower my standards was exactly what I needed to hear today!
Love - clear a counter. I've been working on my house - it's a slow go. I have chronic fatigue. Once I get everything down to minimalistic - I am NEVER going back. Not having clutter is a real feeling of freedom to me.
My new favorite slogan is “Done doesn’t have to be perfect.” Thanks for that and the new feeling of relief that goes with it.
Hi your tips are awesome, and I am a single father with 2 kids 17 and 21 years old
Thanks Jerry! So glad it's helpful!
I always enjoy your videos. Even when I feel like doing nothing, you remind me that just a few minutes of doing something can change the rest of the day.
I'm so glad! 💕
Amen to that.
I do a daily reset routine in the morning. Beds, dishes, bathrooms, laundry. In the evening - I do a quick walk-thru to set things right. I reset the house in the evenings to prep for tomorrow.
That's wonderful Ginger!
Such a great reminder, Rachel! I was reminded to do the dishes, to do the laundry, clear the dining table, and call the dentist! I liked seeing that dusting mitt you were using!! Wow! Got me going out of a bit of a funk!! Thanks!
Oh good! Thanks Vicky! ❤️
Everything counts . Well Done.
❤️ So sorry you've struggled! We'll make it through, one step at a time. 😊
I’ve looked after a family of 4 for over 40 years, I’m on my own now and I just don’t want to do housework any
more. I can’t motivate myself and the house is dusty and I feel like I don’t care, what can I do? The lady next
door said when you’ve done housework for 40 years you just don’t want to do it any more, so I’m glad it’s not
just me that feels this way.
I was at her house once having coffee and
her mother was coming in the afternoon and she got a tissue and just dusted the sideboard with it! I
thought that was dreadful! I don’t like to see dust, but at the same time I don’t seem to care about it any
more!
There used to be dust
on the top of the door frames and pelmets and everywhere you couldn’t see. On the places you could see
she used spray polish and just rubbed it over with a duster, even the TV screen! I had to clean it all off with
sqeezy and warm water. She said what’s the point of wasting time and energy on what you can’t see? So all
my diligent work when she was growing up didn’t rub off on her did it?😅
You are an answer to prayer.
New sub!!
I'm so glad it's helpful! ❤️

You are SPOT ON with these suggestions!!!!!! Procrastination/avoidance doesn’t make that task go away. It actually increases the stress and anxiety even more.
I look forward to going through your other videos!
Thanks Jody! I'm so glad you've joined me!
Thank you Tia! You are definitely not alone in this! ❤️
That's funny... vacuum once a week... I'd be happy if it got done once a month... or even once a quarter... survival mode.
That was me... Finally decided to splurge and bought myself the Roomba i7... And I love it!! Treat yourself!
@@athomewithfengshui I have 2 automatic vacuums. They keep getting lost or broken... more trouble than they are worth currently.
@@amiehegeman they get lost? I didn't know they go rogue, lol!!!
@@panampia yup. Then I find them a month later under a bed or couch or in a closet bc they ate a cord or a toy... Can never find the dang things.

Big thank you! No famous physiologists. Just your simple, very encouraging words. Thank you
Wow, this helped me start exercising again. My house is ok, but need to work on the ole bod:)
Yes! There are evn 5-10 min exercise videos. Sometimes, I start with one of those. I usually get energized enough to do one or two more. it's starting that's hard.
First and foremost!
A bout of depression and overwhelm undoes any regular home tasks AND MOST self-care -- shower? Really? You are an inspiration!!
I set mine for 20. I have been doing this for over 30 years. I work for 20 minutes and am amazed at how much I get done.
❤️
When my Mom passed away, I had her stuff on top of going through a divorce and being evicted, on top of taking custody of my granddaughter. Parts of my home is piled up. To get rid of stuff in my area is expensive let alone working two low paying jobs to support my granddaughter. Life sucks but at least I’m rid of an abusive control freak husband.
Finally....FINALLY! my family puts their dishes in the dishwasher. How did it finally happen? I took my family into the kitchen and said..."no one needs my permission to put things into the dishwasher, just do it"!
Oh true! My kids wait for permission for things to, so letting them know is excellent!
I remember feeling that I needed permission to clean, as if some jewel--encrusted hourglass of rules was preventing me. But it might not be pristine
Thanks for joining me! ❤️Even the little steps make a big difference.
you are 100% relatable
Yes! I knew I was in trouble the first year we moved here and the neighbor was vacuuming the leaves off her lawn with a shop vac. 🙈 😂
Heck yeah Im overwhelmed and stuck
I'm sorry. It's hard when we're in that stuck place. ❤️
Thank you, this has calmed me down.😓
Just found your video and i’m so grateful for your honesty and encouragement. Your tips are so helpful.
I finally got some paperwork in the mail yesterday..I ALSO don't know why some stupid thing seems like a mountain...
I REALLY felt such relief all night...
I realized I COULD have done it a week ago but this thime I did not beat myself up..I ENJOYED FEELING that relief..and this morning decided to start doing that everyday for 6 weeks...and enjoy each days accomplishments...and before summer is over I think I will work out the problem..( which I know comes from severe child abuse where at 14 I had to do everything to hold the house together)
Thank you...you came along at the perfect time for my new life❤️
One thing that has really helped me is ‘touch everything once’. If you pick something up then deal with it. eg laundry, I now never put it on the bed, I put it all away straight away. Same with the mail, read it, deal with it, it’s done
Lower your standards. This is good advice, simply because many people have standards that are unreasonable, and therefore unattainable.
The reminder about procrastination is really timely 😀
But I am going to do as you suggest and I know it works because
that’s what did when I younger !
Pets.
Oh yes, with pets it can feel so much better to vacuum each day. So glad you're taking steps - every little bit makes a difference. ❤️
@@Nourishingminimalism Very true. I sorted one basket of craft stuff. 4 boxes of books to go to the charity shop. Started sorting in my linen cupboard. Next is the wardrobe. One small pile at a time. Really trying to let overwhelm and perfection go.
@@leolady6588 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 each one of these would take me months 😢
hugs for you.. been there.. sucks so bad!! one day at a time
I don't have a dish washer either.
@@abdiea4821 We did the same thing! Cut down on dishes so much.
‘Managing your inner toddler’ an excellent approach!
So funny! Haven't watched your channel before, but turned it on just to see. I watched about 5 minutes and got up to start my load of dishes in the dish washer. There! Done! Now back to watch the rest of your video
Good work! 😁
Thank you so much for this video & tips, they have helped me so much.
I’m single & live alone, so I’m responsible for everything in my house, especially the mess.😀
I’m definitely not into cooking from scratch - there’s nothing wrong with fish fingers, beans & chips etc.
This video just happened to start playing. It hit me like a bullseye. The words in this video felt like a documentary of me. I am subscribing asap!
My rule is progress, not perfection.
U are an angel & really helping LOTS 🌈🙏🏻😇😇😇🌈🌈🙏🏻
Thank you for reminding me that perfection is a process and not the result... smell the flowers along the way. Bright Blessing, (thinking positive energy ), for you and your family.
You are a true,dear person.
So glad it was helpful!
And yes, it is creepy how much youtube knows! 😂 They get me every time!
There is something soothing listening to you. I am decluttering home now and just put your videos just to listen to your voice. It calms me down lol

Me too...
As I have gotten older I tend to say , “ that’s good enough “ . I do just a little at a time , most important stuff first . I don’t really care of everything is done or perfect anymore . It’s good enough
Yes - good enough. Love it.
I can really relate to what you had to say about having things to do like make appt's or those types of things - I also put those off and it's such a weight on me until it gets done
